A perfect family escape to the country

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful stay in this lovely farmhouse. There is a huge amount of space and the swimming pool is secluded, warm and a really good size. The children spent hours in the water and mum and dad spent hours on the sun loungers!

Even when it was raining the house was great to spend time in.

We have all improved our table-tennis skills and loved completing the jigsaw puzzles.

The local village is very small so Chalais was our go to for shops etc. There is a Lidl and Super U and a weekly market.

We would recommend this house for families and it is big enough for two families to join forces.

Thank you

Just perfect,

Fantastic first impression of this gorgeous farmhouse, and it only got better as we entered the property,.Full of character and spacious . The gardens are a delight and the pool was just amazing.

The local bakery was full of gorgeous treats , and we had some lovely authentic meals in the local restaurant where the staff were all so friendly.

The nearby village of Auberterre should not be missed, full of gorgeous restaurants and a delightful square to enjoy a drink.

Loved canoeing at Auberterre sur Drone, and wandering through the beautiful countryside, and seeing the spectacular fields and fields of sunflowers.

Thank you Judy for our lovely stay, just wish we had stayed longer.

Lovely week in the farmhouse

  • 4 of 5

I've been going to the Dordogne/Charente area every year for 6-7 years and staying in different houses each time. This place is your classic farmhouse with rustic beams and the like.

The house is reasonably well equipped (a few basics like oil, salt & pepper would be nice) and has a 2nd large fridge in the utility room for your beer & wine.

A massive bedroom is downstairs with bunk beds and a double that leads off the Kitchen. Two further doubles with en-suites are upstairs but mind your head as the door to one is only 4-5ft high and access to the en-suite in the other bedroom is also impeded by a beam. Good practice for your inner core to duck under them though :). The bathrooms are simple and basic but clean.

There is a very nice lounge downstairs and a fabulous games room with a table tennis table to have a break from the sunshine outside. The beautiful pool is accessed through the games room and along a path to a nice patio area.

The front of the house has some outdoor space for a bit of cricket and beautiful views across the valley and down into Montboyer.

The village has a bakery (although it was closed for two weeks 1st to 15th August when we were there so suspect they go on holiday about then each year) and a nice restaurant, The Bistrot Des Halles. If you want to book in the restaurant, pop in and ask as it is booked up quite quickly as only around 40-45 covers. Ignore the restaurant website as it wrongly said it was closed on Wednesdays and they don't respond to emails.

Overall a good place to stay with a very nice pool

An AMAZING hideaway surrounded by beautiful views

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a very relaxing holiday at the farmhouse with 3 children 3 little dogs and 3 adults. We had a wonderful time and it was great being able to take our little dogs; the house was amazing, dog friendly, very spacious and also the gardens were fantastic. There is a large garden at the front of the house with wonderful views and a garden at the back with a swimming pool, we found the pool great as it is the same depth all the way around which gave us piece of mind with having 3 kids so they were able to play all day without us worrying.

The owners were so very helpful from the start and told us about things to do in the area and also left lots of brochures and local information at the house for us. There are plenty of things to see in the area and some lovely walks. The house had everything we needed for the time we were there, dishwasher, washing machine, large fridge freezer plus the’ best thing ever’ according to our children the table tennis table, many tournaments were fought daily on this! Plus plenty of board games left by the owners. This is a beautiful 16th century country farmhouse with all the character you would expect to see in the French countryside, surrounded by breathtaking views and sun flowers; it is a very special place and we look forward to booking again next year!
