Overview

About the property

6 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, large private pool, yet in the middle of a village

All the bedrooms are large, one double, the rest can all be double or twin. 3 have private bathrooms, one en- suite one room has an en-suite shower. Huge private pool and garden full of local character. But, unusually, in the heart of a historic village, not the edge. Just 2 minutes walk to a food shop/boulangerie, café, restaurant and bar. A traditional "circulade" village full of glorious architecture.

If you are interest in wine, well walk to the end of the road and you are literally in a vineyard! There are at least 10 chateaux with wine tasting on offer within 15 minutes' drive of the house.

This area is Cathar country. The famous medieval capital of Minerve is a 15 minute drive. Carcassonne, with its giant castle, is 30 minutes' away.

There will be very few places on offer that have four different types of swimming within easy reach! As well as its own pool, the sea is about a 30 minute drive away. A freshwater lake with a beach and swimming facilities is 15 minutes away at Homps and proper river swimming facilities are on offer at Bize Minervois about 15 minutes away as well.

This is one of five places we have listed. So far this year we have had over 900 guests and over the years more than 200 online reviews of our properties. Our average rating is 4.9! We try to deliver consistent quality again and again.

About Mark Fox

I have an obsession about personal service, not just machines with endless tape recordings an options and waiting 20 minutes to be answered! I always make sure that I or my agents are available at the end of my mobile if needed. My motto is "personal holidays with personal service".

We are all from London. I am a retired banker and my wife is a doctor. We started buying holiday homes because we were consistently disappointed with the quality of other places when we started renting self-catering places as a young family. Hotels didn't offer proper flexibility for small kids, and self-catering was either very basic or ridiculously expensive jetset places.

Our children are now 18, 17 and 14, but the business has grown as we found that others like our choice of locations and standards. Some of our guests have stayed in all five of our holiday homes, sometimes 3 or 4 times in the same one.

Over 800 guests a year now stay at holiday homes. The average rating of over 250 online reviews is 4.9! I try to deliver consistency and quality.

Self catering should be about high quality and compete with a good hotel experience, not just renting someone else's place.

Why Mark Fox chose Lezignan-Corbieres area

There are a lot of properties in the Languedoc, so why this one? We wanted somewhere in a traditional French medieval village. The countryside is glorious, but not as practical. The convenience of walking to shops, bars and restaurants was important, and it feels much more "French" to become a part of the village, even f only a week or two. A "vignernon" is a house originally owned by a winemaker - this one was built in 1860. It is full of character with lots of space and light, but so much nicer than a modern concrete villa. A large pool and sun terrace as well as outdoor dining was important. The house hadn't been modernised for about 80 years, so we had to do everything - it has every modern feature, but keeps its old feel. Ginestas is a friendly, small village full of tradition, literally surrounded by vineyards, but just 30 minutes' drive from the sea and the town of Narbonne with all its facilities.

What makes this house unique

Lots of space and a large pool, but within a friendly French country village, not somewhere in the countryside.

Everything about the house is traditional French. From the shutters to the original tiled floors throughout, and giant wrought iron bannisters with glass finials. The furniture is a mile away from flatpack chipboard, self-assembly. It is tough enough so that you don't have to worry about the kids, but proper French furniture.

There are lots of modern, semi-identical villas on small housing estates. that is absolutely NOT what we wanted. We wanted somewhere with French character through and through to give a unique experience, not just a house with a pool and a bit of sunshine (although it certainly has that too!). Several of our guests have said that the house is a destination in its own right, which is just what we wanted.

Very good

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed staying at your lovely home in Ginestas. The rooms were large and comfortable and nicely decorated. The inside space and pool gave our large family both great gathering places and privacy to retreat and rest.

Ginestas is a typical village from the South of France. There is plenty to do and explore in the region, Lagrasse, Abbaye of Fontfroide, the wines cave, the sea, ( Gruissan) and a beautiful town Narbonne. Than you Mark for letting us stay in your house...We want to come back.

Impressive and Gorgeous!

  • 5 of 5

What a beautifully renovated house with plenty of rooms, bathrooms and space. The beds were comfortable, everything was clean and the pool was fabulous. A tiny niggle: we had 4 days of windy, rainy weather which meant we were forced inside to eat; the living area was cramped for our number but, as soon as mealtime was over, everyone disappeared to their rooms. Once the sun appeared again, we didn't spend any time in the living room. Mark is clearly a well respected member of the Ginestas community and has ensured impeccable management of the property. The house is a short stroll from all necessities: corner shop, boulangerie, play park (great for under 8s), tennis court, bar and restaurants and well located for sightseeing trips. We felt very grandiose to be staying in such an elegant place. Thank you.

lovely old french house with super pool.

  • 5 of 5

We traveled from Toulouse, and it was an easy journey with great scenery. A lovely peaceful village, the house is full of character very tastefully furnished, and the bedrooms are all spacious. Having 4 rooms with ensuite, was fantastic and all the bath / shower rooms were clean with space to put your toiletries. The kitchen is well equipped and has all the facilities your require, especially a dishwasher. The pool was loved and well used after sightseeing. Lovely bakery 5 minutes walk from the property, so fresh bread for breakfast! Although out every day seeing the area, there is still so much more to explore so will have to revisit and would definitely book this house again. Good information in the house for places to visit if you are stuck for ideas! There are a small number of shops and a bar which does food in the village, but for a more major shop there are supermarkets not far away (5-10 mins by car). Well cared for property would fully recommend a stay. A truly relaxing holiday.

Stunning property in Ginestas

  • 5 of 5

We rented this property for a week at the end of May for our family to stay in as our daughter was getting married in the Château just two minutes up the road and it was perfect for our needs.

The property was very clean and tidy throughout and although we chose to eat out most evenings, the kitchen is well equipped should you wish to prepare a meal at home.

All the bedrooms are of a good size, with very comfortable beds and high quality bedding. The studio room in the loft really has that "wow" factor the first time you see it.

The outside area is totally secluded and perfect for all the family to relax in the sunshine around the pool or at the table on the patio. We made good use of the BBQ provided and those members of the family brave enough to take a dip in the pool found it very refreshing.

The house does have wi-fi but, presumably due to the thickness of the walls we couldn't get any reception in the lounge/dining area. Worked fine upstairs or even outside though.

The owner (Mark) and his local agent (Karen) did an excellent job of communicating with us both before and during our stay so should any minor problem arise it will be quickly dealt with.

All in all we would highly recommend this property to anyone looking to stay in this beautiful part of France, you will not be disappointed.
