Guestbook comments from the owner

Lovely little cottage remote enough to get away from it all. But close enough to feel part of civilisation!

Stayed 4 nights and ate out each night. Can highly recommend Grosvenor arms at nearby Alford. Wife particularly liked the roll top bath!

A bijou studio barn conversion - ideal for two

  • 5 of 5

A warm welcome from our hosts with the fire already lit and a generous welcome pack to keep us going. Lots of outside space for the dogs. Easter weather was typically dire but we enjoyed the warmth of the log burner and there is plenty to do and see in the area. The Carden Arms is dog friendly and serves excellent food.

Disappointed

  • 3 of 5

Stayed for two nights end of November. We were hopeful after reading other reviews, Weather was awful, and cottage didn’t really get warm so would suggest if your out all day ask owners to keep fire going! No other heating except small log burner and a very small useless wall heater. Welcome pack was ok, bread, yogurt, cereal, 2 apples and 2 satsumas, 4 small chocolates, could have done with some eggs. Not really a village setting either Malpas is a lovely village about 10 mins drive away. Maybe cottage is better in summer? . Overpriced but close to Chester and shopping outlet. Disappointed

Owner's Response: We too are disappointed at this review, as receiving concerns via the internet, instead of approaching us on site during the stay, gives us no opportunity to address the situation at the time. We lit the log burner prior to arrival and the cottage was warm and cosy on arrival- we provide ad lib logs free of charge and were really surprised how few logs the guests burned,- although they did use the additional fan heater provided(which wasn’t mentioned in the review ) which is there to back up the log burner, electric wall heater and ladder radiator in the bathroom . The cottage was warm when we checked them out ( when no mention of any concerns were made) The welcome pack includes, fresh orange, milk , butter, cheese, yoghurts, white and brown bread, croissants, jam , marmalade, tea, coffee, filter coffee and a few chocolates- all are top branded products, e.g Dorset Cereals, Yeo Valley yoghurts, Lintd Chocolates etc.(which incidentally I saw on sale today at 45p each ! ) We take guest experience very seriously and have been lucky to meet some super people, who have been kind enough to leave over 450 positive comments in our visitor book, many complimenting us on our welcome pack and stating how cosy the cottage is, leading to a considerable amount of repeat bookings and recommendations. We also have over 50 five star reviews across various platforms on line. We believe our pricing to be competitive, bearing in mind, we give a personal welcome, light the log burner prior to arrival, provide ad lib logs, welcome pack, toiletries, books, dvd’s cd’s magazines and make no charge for dogs ( which these guests took advantage of ) Sadly, you cannot please all the people all of the time but we do our very best!

Fabulous cottage for relaxing and having time to think.

  • 5 of 5

A lovely little hide away from a stressful working life.

Beautifully designed with ample space for a couple and their dog.

Gorgeous views and outdoor space to enjoy a cup of tea in the mornings.

Great owners, very helpful, easy going and a respect for ones privacy.

Breakfast and essentials provided, a lovely personal touch.

Altogether a fabulous experience and a recommendation to all who enjoy time for themselves.

Beautiful and Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here on the 4-6th September following our wedding. It was the perfect little romantic break! The cottage is so pretty, romantic and peaceful. We took our Springer Spaniel with us too who had an amazing time. The cottage is very clean and well maintained. When you arrive the kitchen is already stocked with tea, coffee, milk, cereal, bread etc. Which is a really nice touch. Would definitely recommend!
