5a Fortfield Terrace is a maisonette set over the first and second floors of a beautiful Regency townhouse with stunning views of the sea across Sidmouth's famous cricket ground. This lovely home is the perfect spot from which to enjoy East Devon's walks, culture and family attractions, or to simply take a breath and relax...

Our maisonette comfortably sleeps six people. We have a king sized bedroom and a double bedroom, both with sea views,plus two single bedrooms. There are two bathrooms; one shower room with a large double shower

and a bathroom with a shower over a generously sized bath.

There is a modern eat-in kitchen and the piece-de-resistance is the wonderful sitting room, with two sets of double French Doors leading onto our balcony. This has a perfect view, looking out to the sea over beautifully manicured tennis courts, croquet lawns and cricket ground.

We are pleased to be dog friendly and hope your four legged friend enjoys your holiday as much as you!

Whilst freshly laundered bathmats, hand towels and kitchen towels will be provided, we ask that you bring your own bedding and towels. We are able to supply bedding and towels for an additional charge - £20 per King or Double and £10 per Single.

We have one parking permit for the residents parking bays in front of the terrace. If you have more than one car there is usually ample parking to be found on nearby Glen Road.

Very comfortable, well equipped, sea views, comfy beds - we'll be back!

This is a very spacious and comfortable apartment with stunning sea views from this historic terrace. Full of character, it's very well equipped, and the new gas boiler ensures that it's warm, and plenty of hot water (though we turned it off while out).

Plenty of kitchen equipment - glasses, cutlery, and a pleasure to eat in the kitchen-diner.

Being in the town we wondered if it would be noisy - not at all. It's also ideally placed to stroll down to The Bedford Hotel for a pre-dinner drink or to eat.

Our first stay but we'll be back!

Wonderful position, view outstanding.

No worries over parking due to the permit supplied. Such a well equipped house. Breakfast in the sunshine on the balcony with a sea view. So close to all the shore, shops, restaurants and tea shops. We never used the car all week.

Prime location

Our family enjoyed our four night stay at this apartment. The location was perfect, only a short walk to the town centre and seaside. Beautiful views from the lounge room with something always happening on the greens! Sidmouth is a picturesque coastal town which we very much enjoyed! Thanks, Jenny.

Excellent location and we would definitely stay there again.

With four bedrooms ideal for two families but only having one parking permit let's that down somewhat. Quite a lot of stairs to climb for anyone who has walking difficulties so would not recommend for them. Generally nice and clean however some paint work needs refreshing. The apartment is very well eqipped especially in the kitchen. Lovely views over cricket ground, tennis court and croquet lawns from the balcony with a beautiful sea view. Easy access to beach and shops. Bus stops to several places and a free bus to donkey sanctuary only a minute away from apartment. We had a lovely holiday in June 2016 and really like Sidmouth. Owner is very pleasant and easy to communicate with.

Owner's Response: We appreciate that one parking permit is not always ideal however East Devon District Council will only allocate one permit per property and there is no option for me to purchase a second permit - there are however several roads nearby where visitors can park an additional car free of charge and there are also numerous car parks within a short walk of Fortfield Terrace. I am always able to give additional parking information if guests are planning to bring two cars.

A good location for beach and town

The property was well located with views over a cricket pitch, tennis courts and croquet lawn as well as a lovely vista of the sea. The shopping area is about 5 minutes stroll away and through a small park, convenient for walking the dog. The Anchor Pub is found just as you enter the shopping area, its meals were first class as was the service, but not dog friendly. Parking was easy outside the property but beware of the very occasional low flying cricket balls.

The property itself although comfortable, suffered from a lack of tlc in respect of the decorations, a coat of paint wouldn't have gone amiss, which took the edge of it a bit. The beds were very comfortable but we would have liked "darker" curtains. Lounge furniture was good but the kitchen chairs lacked cushions. The age of the property meant that some of the windows and balcony doors did not close properly. The bathrooms were a bit chilly and lacked hooks and sufficient shelves.

I don't wish to appear too critical and would certainly stay there again. All in all a good holiday and nice weather.

Owner's Response: We do welcome all feedback, but would like to point out that our home redecorating on a cyclical basis - the sitting room, master bedroom and one of the single bedrooms were all redecorated in 2015 and another single bedroom has been redecorated in May 2016. We are very houseproud and like to keep our holiday home looking smart. The hallway will be due for redecoration next so watch this space...

Superb appartment everything you could require.

Superb flat, everything you could need was provided, absolutely spotlessly clean. Superb central heating system easy to us and effective. The parking permit was much appreciated in the area. Such a lovely surprise to find a chilled bottle of bubbly in the fridge upon arrival. The French windows are such a bonus, the weather was not brilliant during our stay but the windows gave such a beautiful sight of the sea and the moon which would be hard to rival. Fantastic holiday in fact so good we have already booked for next year!

Our family has owned this property for 35 years, and it has been the location of many happy family holidays for three generations. I was brought here by my parents for my first holiday here when I was just a few months old and my son recently had his first holiday here too! It is the one place that we all properly unwind and relax. We love that you can set the pace of the holiday depending on how you are feeling. If you want to be busy and outdoors there are endless activities, but if you fancy a gentle day you can happily while away the time pottering around Sidmouth, enjoying the Regency period property and taking in the gorgeous views.

Adventurous outdoor souls will be able to explore the Jurassic coastline and surrounding countryside on an array of wonderful walks. Keep yourself busy with Sidmouth's superb eighteen hole golf course, sea fishing trips from nearby Beer and a selection of watersports from Sidmouth beach. Unwind at one of Devon's vineyards, including Lily Farm Vineyeard near Budleigh Salterton.


There is endless fun to be had for families in an around Sidmouth. The beach, although pebbly at the top, is within very easy walking distance and has an enormous stretch of sand at low tide (and access directly to the sand from the end of the promenade), plus super rock pools. Jurassic Paddle Sports offers kayaking, paddle boarding and surfing lessons, and/or equipment hire. Hire tennis courts, try your hand at the putting course, walk to the little playground, head to the indoor pool for a swim or try the cinema on a rainy afternoon. There are many fun days out to be had too, including Bicton Park, Creely Adventure Park and The Donkey Sanctuary.


Fortfield Terrace is a mere hop, skip and jump from Sidmouth's bustling centre, which is full to bursting with swish independent shops and boutiques, perfect for fashion finds, gorgeous gifts and heavenly homewares. In addition to our local butcher, green grocer, fishmonger, delis and bakeries, you will find a jolly good Waitrose a short drive from Fortfield Terrace and an extremely handy Tesco Express within walking distance too.


Sidmouth boasts a wide selection of lovely restaurants, cafes and pubs, with something to suit every palette. Just a few of our favourites include The Pea Green Boat, The Loft and Dukes.


If you are in need of pampering there are a numerous beauticians and hairdressers in Sidmouth. A particular favourite is Aspara at The Royal York & Faulkner Hotel - book your treatment before your holiday to guarentee an appointment.


Sidmouth's summer season means there need never be a dull moment; from the fun of Folk Week in August, to fabulously traditional open air performances by the Sidmouth Town Band at the Connaught Gardens and a varied selection of plays at the Manor Pavillion.


We are a doggie friendly holiday home, and two bowls are provided for your pooch. We do not have a garden but you can easily take your four legged friend for a little walk to do his or her business! Sidmouth is generally a dog-friendly town and you will find that most cafes and pubs are generally happy for dogs to have a nap under your table. The main beach forbids dogs from 1st May - 30th September, however Jacob's Ladder Beach allows dogs all year around, as long as you walk 100m along the top of the beach before heading down to the sand.

Or simply sit back on the balcony and enjoy the sea view with a tempting tipple and the soothing sound of leather on willow in the background...

Prices are for weekly lets, please do call or email if you are looking for a shorter break as we may be able to offer a three or four night stay.

Whilst freshly laundered bath mats, hand towels and kitchen towels are provided, we ask that you bring your own bedding, bath towels and beach towels (plus towels for your dog after wet walks). King size bedding can be provided for a small charge of £15.


We require a 50% deposit to secure the booking, with the final balance plus a £100 security deposit due 6 weeks before your stay. If the booking is made within 6 weeks of your stay, full payment will be required.

From the Owner

The period charm of this property is a highlight. It has lovely character and features which are complemented by a modern kitchen and bathrooms. Looking out across Sidmouth's cricket ground to the sea, the view is simply beautiful. Even if it is a grey winter day, you can still enjoy the view through the double French doors leading from the living room onto the balcony. Our location is second-to-none. All of the amenities of Sidmouth are within easy walking distance, from pretty boutiques to independent food shops and lovely restaurants, cafes and pubs. You needn't drive anywhere if you don't feel like it, and if you are without a car there are plenty of buses which connect into Exeter or Honiton. Our family dogs love their holidays in Sidmouth, enjoying pretty walks and swimming in the sea, so we are very happy for you to bring your dog with you too.

  • The master bedroom is painted a restful soft yellow, and has an original period fireplace. It is complemented by stripped floorboards, simple white painted furniture and a pewter effect king size bed. It benefits from a sea view. Next door, a double bedroom painted a pretty pale lilac has a built in wardrobe, chest of drawers and a dressing table/desk. This also has a lovely sea view. On the same floor, there is a sweet little single bedroom, painted a gentle green colour, with hooks to hang clothes, a large bedside table with drawers and a chair. Just down a short run of stairs is a further bedroom, another single with a chest of drawers. This is painted a soft stone shade with nautical touches.
