Godre Berwyn is a charming character cottage, privately situated on a quiet lane in the centre of Llangollen. The restaurants, shops, river and activities are minutes away on foot so no need to drive.
Uniquely for Llangollen, the cottage has private parking for 1 car additional parking 100 yards away.
The cottage has been in our family for many years and has recently undergone a complete refurbishment inside and out.
Believed to have been built in the mid 1600's, the cottage boasts a wealth of exposed beams and some exposed stonework, which along with the thick walls and uneven floors add some unique features. The sitting/dining room has a wood burning stove to make the cottage even cosier in the cooler months.
On the ground floor is a fully equipped kitchen, a sitting /dining room and a small double bedroom complete with ensuite shower room. This room would also be suitable for guests with mobility issues.
Stairs lead to a landing with many exposed beams (the stairs are a little steep) There is a large double bedroom and 2 good sized singles, along with a small newly refurbished family bathroom.
At the rear of the property is a walled Mediterranean style courtyard, with seating, lighting and a BBQ.
Llangollen has much to do and see-for the more active there is white water rafting, climbing canoeing, golf and walking from the front gate, with mountain biking a short drive away.Families will enjoy the canal boat and steam train rides as well as the riverside park.
There is no need for a car,as all the activities, cafes bars and restaurants are all a short walk away,as are a great range of butchers, bakers, greengrocers, delis and covenience stores which are open 'til late.
A welcome pack is provided and for stays of 1 week or more a complimentary bottle of wine.
You will receive a lovely welcome at Godre Berwyn. The owners have probably thought of everything you need for a stay in a holiday cottage - the kitchen is well equipped and with little things that you sometimes forget but need... including tinfoil, condiments, sauces; we were even left a generous welcome pack of bread, butter, eggs, cheese, fruit juice, cake, fruit and milk for our arrival. There was also a plentiful supply of teas, coffees and sugar. Llangollen is in a beautiful area that you can travel around, but at the same time the cottage is in the town itself, so you could park the car and leave it there for your stay. We did a bit of both. Lovely walks along the canal and river - the family enjoyed fishing especially. There are numerous places in the town to eat out, both cafes and restaurants. Our favourite was the Corn Mill, lovely food on every occasion we ate there. There are several convenience shops open late and in easy walking distance of the cottage, but also lovely small independant shops for meat, fruit and veg etc
Thank you for a lovely stay
Owners are lovely welcoming people
Village is a delight and deserves the praise it has achieved and great spot to explore north Wales
Highly recommended as a quite and peaceful home away from home
On the day of our arrival we were met at the cottage by Christine and her husband, they were both so friendly and welcoming and made such a fuss of our dog Charlie! The cottage was exactly as described, it was clean, warm and very comfortable. The downstairs bedroom with ensuite was perfect and the upstairs rooms were so bright and airy. Everything you would expect to find at home, you could find in the cottage, even down to books, games and sewing kit! The welcome pack was a lovely surprise, containing fruit, bread, butter, cheese, milk and biscuits. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the cottage to anyone, it was simply perfect. The village itself was very nice, everything you need within easy reach. Do check out the book shop, a real gem for avid readers, so many books you won't know where to start!
We had a great time using this home as our base for North Wales. I assume that most customers are Brits and that's fine, but if you Americans, Canadians, etc. are looking for a charming place to help you get in touch with some of the deep roots of N Wales, Godre Berwyn is a good place to begin. The owners are very thoughtful, preparing for our arrival in ways we did not expect. The town that Llongollen was right at our feet, with so much within an easy walk. We highly recommend the property and would definitely stay here again, given the opportunity!
Lovely to be welcomed by the owner on arrival. Very comfortable, quaint property, very convenient for the town & places of interest.
Great welcome pack.
Lovely accommodation with very close proximity to the town. Abundance of cafes, pubs and restaurants along with convenience stores. Lovely canal walks and for the very energetic hillsides, woods and countryside. Cottage very well equipped, lovely and warm and very cosy. Would not hesitate in recommending it. Downstairs bedroom with en-suite ideal for those not so agile. Overall a lovely break at half term.
Stunning cottage in the most ideal location from the centre of Llangollen. Ideal to go into town, and use as a base to go for beautiful country walks. Everything we needed was thought of, and the cottage was immaculate. I Loved the courtyard at the back, and great to see the Castle from the front yard too!
Highly Recommended! Jon
