Idyllic two-bedrooom cottage in woodland, in walking distance of Porlock village

Tanglewood is less than a mile from the friendly Exmoor National Park village of Porlock, with its excellent range of shops, pubs and restaurants. Well-equipped and cosy, and with wireless internet access, the cottage has a large private garden bordered by a pretty stream. It offers easy access to coast and moor, with excellent opportunities for walking and site-seeing.

Tanglewood is a detached cottage on a quiet track in Hawkcombe Woods, a National Nature Reserve - so it provides peace and seclusion, while being within an easy walk of the village.

It has two bedrooms: one with a king-size bed and the other with two single beds. It has a well equipped kitchen, large lounge with cosy wood-effect stove and dining area and a sunny conservatory that allows you to enjoy the views across the valley whatever the time of year.

Outside, there is a raised terrace with table and chairs that overlooks the garden, as well as a shaded bench in a corner of the garden, from which you can listen to the rush of the stream.

We live in Surrey and spend as much time as we can at our holiday cottage. Having holidayed in Exmoor for many years, we were thrilled to buy Tanglewood in 2015. We love waking up in the morning in our secluded cottage in the woods, then being able to wander into Porlock for tea and cake in the afternoon!

Wonderful Holiday in a wonderful cottage.

The property was spotless, spacious but still cosy, in the most idyllic location. Fantastic garden, which our dog loved, surrounded by trees, very very peaceful. Enclosed parking. Walkable distance to a very nice village which had lots of eating places. Can recommend Piggy in the Middle. Thanks to the owners of Tanglwood for the milk, biscuits and fresh flowers etc. Which we found on our arrival. Fantastic location with plenty of places to explore. On the way to Lymouth the Blue Ball is a very good place to stop and eat, very pleasant hosts and lovely food, open all day for food which is a definite bonus. Porlock is a very dog friendly area where you can take your dog in many eating places.

A homely and spacious home during our holiday

Our second stay in this lovely cottage in the beautiful Porlock countryside. This is in an idyllic location in the Hawcombe Valley. Ideal to return to after a lovely walk with our dogs. A Homely and spacious cottage - feels just like home and so near to Porlock village for a lovely meal and evening walk. It is an absolute pleasure to sit comfortably in the cottage or in the garden when we have done enough walking in the valley or Exmoor. Thank you, Lynda, Allan and Janet - Surrey.

Tanglewood offers an amazing combination: it is a charming detached cottage in the woods at Hawkcombe, yet only fifteen minutes walk from the restaurants and pubs in the lovely village of Porlock.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Motorway : M5 at Bridgwater at 30 Miles Nearest Restaurant : Pubs and restaurants in Porlock village at 800 Metres Car: recommended

Tanglewood is within walking distance of the Exmoor National Park village of Porlock, with its shops, tea rooms and restaurants (for lunch, we particularly like Mrs Jackson Tea Room or The Big Cheese Shop; for dinner, you might try The Lapsewood, The Ship Inn, or fish and chips from Piggy-In-The-Middle).

Exmoor offers many lovely walks through an amazing variety of landscapes: moorland and woodland, rivers and coast. One of our favourites is to walk straight from the cottage, following the stream up to Hawkcombe Head, with its sweeping views across Porlock Bay. Another you might try is to walk along the seafront to Porlock Weir - and if you're feeling adventurous, along the wooded coastpath to England's smallest church at Culbone.

Tanglewood is usually booked from Friday to Friday, although we may be able to offer flexibility where Christmas falls on, or near a Friday. We have a strict no smoking policy at Tanglewood. We also ask that dogs are not allowed to go upstairs (a stair guard is available to assist!). Linen, towels and electricity are all included in the rental price. Tanglewood is available from 4pm on the day of arrival and should be vacated by 10am on the day of departure.
