Stunning 15th century fort in Provence with pool, woodland & gardens - sleeps 13

Overview

Property

Updated: 23-Nov-2016

San Sebastien is a 15th century hill-top fort, now breath-taking retreat, in Haute Provence. Idyllic for summer holidays by the pool & exploring the gardens & the local area, & winter breaks, with wood fires, stunning walking & clear skies. The house is decorated to the highest standards of comfort, combining modern style and traditional charm. It's a truly remarkable retreat that we hope you'll love as much as we do.

The main house has a fully-equipped kitchen and large living area, complete with wood-burning stove. For summer and beautiful sunny winter days there is a dining table outside on the terrace, with views over the valley, and a wooden table in the living room for cold festive evenings.

The first double bedroom is on the ground floor, with a king-sized bed and traditional wooden beams. A large shower room is directly opposite.

On the first floor there are two stunning double bedrooms. The first has an en-suite with two sinks and shower, queen-sized bed and views over the valley. The second bedroom has both a queen-sized bed and further single bed, and an en-suite with both bath and shower, perfect for families with a young child. Views stretch across the courtyard towards the pool from the shutters. There is also an office area.

The second floor is an 18th century addition to the house, build on top of the original fort roof, which is why you’ll notice the floor is sloped. From the outside the original ramparts are visible in the brick work. There is a cinema area with large screen and a sofa that seats 6+, to keep children entertained after a day in the sun or to put your feet up in front of a movie. One double bedroom and one twin room share use of an en-suite shower room.

San Sebastien sits within ten acres of land. On one side the house looks over a valley and on the other, out to the ancient market town Foucalquier.

The good sized swimming pool, sun loungers and picnic table are thirty metres from the terrace. An extremely rare black mulberry tree provides some shade.

Court-yards around the house, that used to be home to live-stock now host a table-tennis table and a large fig tree, that is very fruitful in late summer (and perfectly matched with fresh goat’s cheese from the neighbours farm!).

On the terraces below the house there is a vegetable patch where we grow fresh produce. We ask that guests do not take from the patch so we can look after our harvest.

The house is surrounded by forest which is rich with truffles. If you are lucky our foragers will come during your stay with their dogs to find them.
