About the Owner

We fell in love with Rising Sun 10 years ago and it has been our bolt hole and sanctuary ever since! We get down to Newport as often as we can, but are happy to share this magical place with visitors who always love it and want to come back again.

Lovely holiday cottage

  • 5 of 5

This is perhaps the best holiday cottage we have ever stayed in. It is in a wonderful location overlooking Newport Bay, and the property itself has been modernised with good taste and imagination. The decor is artistic and every little detail appears to have been considered. The beds are comfortable and everything was in order on arrival. The garden is very attractive and a pleasure to sit in on a sunny day. The coast and countryside of north Pembrokeshire are beautiful and we spent most of the days exploring the villages and walking the footpaths. Fishguard, Solva, St Davids and St Dogmaels are well worth visiting as well as small villages such as Nevern and Moylegrove and the very scenic Cwm Gwaun. Not suitable for wheelchair users but otherwise highly recommended.

Our Holiday at Rising Sun

  • 4 of 5

Rising Sun is set in beautiful surroundings with lovely views of the estuary and countryside. Spacious, but still retaining a cosy cottage feel, its perfect for couples or families alike. It was very clean, well maintained, and well equipped. The gardens are well kept with easy access onto Carningli Mountain. Newport town is nearby, with several good places to eat, including the Golden Lion and Cnapan Hotel. The Shire Horse Centre and Castell Henllys Iron Age Fort offer good family days out. We had a wonderful stay and would recommend Rising Sun to anyone.

Location

From the Owner

Rising Sun is perfectly located just out of the bustle of the town, but near enough to walk down for an evening in the pub! It sits just on the side of the mountain with lovely views to the sea, estuary and across the valley. The garden is beautiful with its large pond and seating areas, have a go on the swing!

Newport Town nestles in the beautiful Pembrokeshire National Park coastline, and is blessed with two beaches, an excellent range of small independent shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs and a street market on Mondays.

The magical Carn Ingli mountain is its unique backdrop. Also within easy striking distance, there is the famous Gwaun valley, the Preseli range (the source for the bluestone used at Stonehenge), many beautiful beaches, and a dramatic coastline. All this is home to stunning wildlife, ancient woods, burial chambers from previous civilisations, and many wonderful walks.

The Iron Bridge, famous for bird-watching on the Nevern estuary, Pembrokeshire coastal footpath and Parrog beach are all within a mile.

Pembrokeshire is the ideal spot to choose either a quiet tranquil break, or there are all sorts of activities close by if you have the energy!
