About Ceri and Bob

We fell in love with Rising Sun 10 years ago and it has been our bolt hole and sanctuary ever since! We get down to Newport as often as we can, but are happy to share this magical place with visitors who always love it and want to come back again.

Ceri and Bob purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Ceri and Bob chose Newport

Rising Sun is perfectly located just out of the bustle of the town, but near enough to walk down for an evening in the pub! It sits just on the side of the mountain with lovely views to the sea, estuary and across the valley. The garden is beautiful with its large pond and seating areas, have a go on the swing!

What makes this cottage unique

Rising Sun is such a relaxing, comfortable yet quirky and interesting home. As a former pub with some lovely features, it's as interesting to be on the inside as it is to be outside admiring the views!

Newport Town nestles in the beautiful Pembrokeshire National Park coastline, and is blessed with two beaches, an excellent range of small independent shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs and a street market on Mondays.

The magical Carn Ingli mountain is its unique backdrop. Also within easy striking distance, there is the famous Gwaun valley, the Preseli range (the source for the bluestone used at Stonehenge), many beautiful beaches, and a dramatic coastline. All this is home to stunning wildlife, ancient woods, burial chambers from previous civilisations, and many wonderful walks.

The Iron Bridge, famous for bird-watching on the Nevern estuary, Pembrokeshire coastal footpath and Parrog beach are all within a mile.

Pembrokeshire is the ideal spot to choose either a quiet tranquil break, or there are all sorts of activities close by if you have the energy!

  • 5 of 5

This property was easily the best we've stayed in after visiting Newport for many years.. Clean, comfortable and equipped with everything and more!, It was almost as though it was our forever home... It was very difficult to prise me away at the end of our holiday!. A big thank you to Ceri and Bob for thinking of everything possible to make our stay so fantastic... Ken and Maggie Cockrell

Great location, beautiful cottage .

  • 5 of 5

Loved everything about this cottage, really pretty with beautiful gardens and a great view over the bay. Stayed with family and found it very comfortable with a well equipped kitchen and large table so we could all sit together at meal times. Lots of lovely walks and beaches and Newport town is very pretty with places to eat and drink. Weather wasn't too kind but because we had somewhere lovely to go back to it didn't matter. Thanks we had a great family holiday.

Beautiful house and stunning views

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we walked in to Rising Sun we felt at home. The house is beautifully decorated and maintained, with extra touches for convenience eg kitchen very well stocked with pans and bit and pieces. Large rooms for eating and relaxing and a very well kept garden, with pond, various lawns, trees, shrubs and flowers. We so enjoyed sitting on the stone patio and looking at the view! Watching the sun go down from the garden and come up over the hills was one of the highlights of the stay. The house is within walking distance to Newport for anyone with average fitness.

Definitely the loveliest holiday house we'd all stayed in, almost too nice to go and explore the local area!

Wonderfully comfortable and well appointed cottage.

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we walked in the door it was lovely. There was plenty of room for all of us. The garden is delightful and for a 6 year old it was heaven with lots of places to explore.

The beds were very comfortable, with plenty of stage space in the bedrooms. Beautiful view from the front bedrooms. There wasn't anything that we said that we wished we'd brought from home as it was all there, full bookcase, DVDs & loads of games for all to play. In the outside shed were a whole range of outdoor toys and equipment for us to borrow too.

All in all, with the weather as a friend, it was a fantastic holiday week for all 3 generations.

Thank you.

Lovely holiday cottage

  • 5 of 5

This is perhaps the best holiday cottage we have ever stayed in. It is in a wonderful location overlooking Newport Bay, and the property itself has been modernised with good taste and imagination. The decor is artistic and every little detail appears to have been considered. The beds are comfortable and everything was in order on arrival. The garden is very attractive and a pleasure to sit in on a sunny day. The coast and countryside of north Pembrokeshire are beautiful and we spent most of the days exploring the villages and walking the footpaths. Fishguard, Solva, St Davids and St Dogmaels are well worth visiting as well as small villages such as Nevern and Moylegrove and the very scenic Cwm Gwaun. Not suitable for wheelchair users but otherwise highly recommended.

Our Holiday at Rising Sun

  • 4 of 5

Rising Sun is set in beautiful surroundings with lovely views of the estuary and countryside. Spacious, but still retaining a cosy cottage feel, its perfect for couples or families alike. It was very clean, well maintained, and well equipped. The gardens are well kept with easy access onto Carningli Mountain. Newport town is nearby, with several good places to eat, including the Golden Lion and Cnapan Hotel. The Shire Horse Centre and Castell Henllys Iron Age Fort offer good family days out. We had a wonderful stay and would recommend Rising Sun to anyone.
