A warm welcome awaits you at The Stone Shed in the lovely commune of Saint Martin de Belleville.
We know how it feels to be cooped up in a tiny, box-like ski apartment… and we didn’t like it much! So, we’ve restored this 17th century village house, along with the adjoining stone cow shed, to create a warm, inviting home-away-from-home.
Nestled in the heart of the world's largest ski domaine, The Stone Shed is ideally located for you to enjoy stunning alpine surroundings & everything the area has to offer.
There’s a spacious (not just a few cupboards stuck in a corner), full-size kitchen that you can actually cook & eat in! It’s well-equipped with a range cooker, large hob, larder-style fridge/freezer, dishwasher & a must-have Nespresso coffee machine. There’s a dining table that seats all 8 of you (not always the case!), plus room to kick-back & relax in the lounge area.
The 4 bedrooms are well-appointed with either a queen-size bed (2 rooms), two single beds (1 room) or a bunk-bed (1 room); all made-up with crisp white linen. We’ve not crammed extra beds into the bedrooms - and each bedroom has it’s own bathroom. You’ll find cotton robes in your wardrobe, together with hand-made toiletries (by The Natural Soap Company) and Egyptian cotton towels in your en-suite.
Enjoy a vin-chaud on one of the 3 balconies, whilst watching the sun disappear behind the mountains or gazing at the stars.
Outside, there's a small garden, ample private parking and a secure ski locker.
St Martin-de-Belleville is a charming, traditional village that happens to have a ski-lift! It offers picture-postcard scenes, a good choice of amenities and easy access to extensive ski and walking areas.
The commune of St Martin-de-Belleville comprises of a number of surrounding hamlets. The closest of these (and we would argue the prettiest!) is St Marcel – home to The Stone Shed. You’re just a 15 minute stroll to the nearby amenities and gondola in St Martin, or you can hop-on the free ski-bus to Les Menuires or Val Thorens.
From St Martin, a gondola and the new ‘express’ lift whisk you up to Tougnète ridge, where you can explore all the pistes of Les Menuires and Val Thorens. Alternatively, you can drop over the ridge to discover the extensive slopes of the Méribel valley and ride the gondola to Courchevel.
We’re Erica & John, originally from the UK but now residing in La Belle France! Our 20 year affair with the ski slopes led us to search out a winter home in the Alps.
After a long, and sometimes exhausting, search for an alpine property - we arrived in St Martin de Belleville. We knew that we wanted a genuine mountain village, as opposed to a purpose-built resort or a station village developed beyond recogition. We also wanted an authentic building that could be renovated for truly modern living.
Having painstakingly restored the property, we’re now delighted to offer accommodation to couples, families or groups of friends. We look forward to welcoming you to your inviting home-from-home!
We fell in love with the village and the building as they're a true slice of old-style alpine life; complete with fantastic vista’s, real Savoyard architecture and not forgetting our very own 3 Michelin-star Restaurant!
Today, the old village remains a lived-in, unspoilt place with a small square and lovely 16th century church. It has been carefully and tastefully expanded with new buildings of wood and stone in traditional Savoie style. There are a variety of good restaurants, even one or two in working farms where tasty Savoyard dishes are made from the freshest, local produce. Those seeking apres-ski have a choice of bars and regular live-music nights. Dotted around the village square, you’ll find a small supermarket, an excellent butcher, baker & delicatessen.
The property has been beautifully renovated to provide a top class 4 bedroom chalet in a quiet picturesque village called St Marcel. It is just above St Martin de Bellleville and provides access to the Trois Vallees - the larger skiable area in the world.
If you have experienced the usual cramped, poor quality, orange pine clad chalets that I have in the past, The Stone Shed will be a revaluation! It is more like a boutique hotel with excellent facilities that has been thoughtfully conceived and beautifully finished. The modern kitchen has a great range cooker and up to date appliances as well as quality crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils. Relaxing in the top floor lounge area after a hard day on the slopes was also a joy, with a great range of channels on the satellite TV, falling into the cosy sofas with a glass of the local red wine, really helped to ease the pain in my aching legs! All the bedrooms are an excellent size with very comfortable beds but also masses of storage for your ski and après gear - a real plus in my book as in the past I have had to put up with a couple of pegs on the wall to hang all of my stuff! The ensuite bathrooms, without exception, are stunning! The finish is first class with beautiful floor and wall tiles, quality baths and fittings and great water pressure in the showers. The chalet has great views up the valley and is really warm and cosy thanks to the underfloor heating. Location wise, it is a short walk into the lovely village of St Martin where a fast chair connects into the 3 valleys network, or a 10 minute car ride up to Val Thorens which had fabulous snow and masses of great off piste! I stayed with a group of friends who I have skied with for the past 20 years - we all agreed it was the best chalet we have stayed in. John and Erica, you have done a great job and we will be back!
This is my second stay at the Stone Shed and it won't be my last. Each time it is perfect - the chalet has been beautifully renovated by Erica & John with taste & style blending traditional materials such as wood and stone with some great design features and of course with all the home conforts. The bedrooms are large and cosy , the beds extremely confortable and the en suite bathrooms are superb. The living areas offer space and style and are perfect for relaxing and dining after a day on the slopes. The village of St Marcel is a hidden gem of tranquility with great alpine views and great skiing access from St Martin 5 minutes away or from Les Menuires . The icing on the cake is the Michelin 3 star restaurant La Bouitte which is just a 5 minutes walk from the chalet where we experienced a fantastic Sunday lunch. Whether it is for skiing , walking or just relaxing the Stone Shed is THE address in the 3 Valleys - I have already booked for next year !
The stone shed is unusually sapcious for a ski chelet has been beutifully renovated to the highest quality situated in a pictuesque village. Easy access to the slopes using car or bus makes this a special find and we will be booking early to ensure we can return next year

Un moment hors du temps, de nature, culture et nourritures, de rencontres, pas de montre et tout contre, les pistes, les meilleurs tables, les ballades, sans parler du temps exceptionnel et d'un ciel bleu .... superbe! Tout y était pour en faire un week-end par-fait !!!! A tenter sans hésitation !!!!
The Stone Shed is truly a home away from home, which has been beautifully renovated and decorated by Erica and John. We were spending a family week together and were five adults and two children. We had plenty of space and never felt overcrowded. St Marcel is a lovely little hamlet and St Martin de Belleville has managed to keep its authenticity. We would certainly return! For a very special treat, La Bouitte restaurant in St Marcel is an amazing experience.

The Stone Shed is our home - not a hotel or rental property; we ask that you treat the chalet, contents, surroundings & neighbours as if they were your own – with care and respect.
In order to ensure that all future guests have a great time, we ask that everyone in your group is aware of the small number of ‘house rules’:
The Stone Shed is strictly non-smoking.
Inside the chalet is a shoe and boot-free zone!
Let us know of any damage or breakage(s) so that we have the opportunity to fix or replace.
Please leave the chalet as you found it.
(We don’t mandate an end-of-stay cleaning charge… but please be aware that the chalet will be inspected. If the chalet is not as clean & tidy as when you entered, we will retain up to €250 from your security deposit.)
Should you need to cancel your booking, please do so as soon as possible by tracked email. We will acknowledge by return and advise what refund, if any, to expect.
The 25% deposit is non-refundable and will be retained by The Stone Shed.
If the cancellation is received after balance payment has been made, a refund (if applicable) will be made in line with the following schedule:
50 – 69 days in advance of arrival date : 50% of balance amount.
30 – 49 days in advance of arrival date : 25% of balance amount.
0 – 29 days in advance of arrival date : 0% of balance amount.
We realise that, with the best will in the world, changes can and do occur. These booking conditions allow us to operate The Stone Shed as efficiently as possible and form a reservation as a contract in law. Should you believe that your circumstances could change, you are encouraged to acquire appropriate holiday/travel insurance to cover such eventualities.
