The house has been restored to a very high standard and benefits from oil fired central heating, which makes it ideal for winter or summer rental. Outside there is a rustic covered dining

area/BBQ area, extensive gardens with a 9x4 fully enclosed pool with underwater lighting and sun terrace, there is also a large courtyard to the front of the property. Bikes are available on request. The area benefits from lovely walks through tranquil country lanes, surrounded by woodlands and sunflower fields.

About the Owner

I have holidayed in France over the last 20 years, the last 8yrs on my motorcycle. I love the outdoor life, cycling, walking and kayaking and have enjoyed exploring different regions. I decided on Poitou Charentes because not only does it fit in with the things I love doing but the area has such easy access by air,rail and road, making it a very easy place to come and stay.

The area is awash with sunflower fields and in the spring/summer there are some excellent country lanes for cyclists and walkers alike.

I love nothing better than sharing my home with family and friends and will be easily at hand for my rental guests if any problems should arise.

A peaceful, rustic farmhouse in a stunning location.

We have just returned home from a wonderful week spent at Les Cerisiers. Robert, the owner, was very hospitable ensuring that our stay was a very pleasant one. The farmhouse is very spacious, clean and with all the amenities at hand. Our children really enjoyed swimming in the pool, playing in the extensive garden and playing table tennis. The Chaunay region is both peaceful, idyllic and is centrally located for a number of great family days out, eg. Futuroscope and La Vallee Des Singes. We would highly recommend this property to anyone considering a holiday in this part of France.

Very relaxing and peaceful

Incredibly homely with lots of little extras that make self catering easy. As well as the welcome pack there was a great selection of books, games, a cool box with ice blocks and little things like herbs and spices in the kitchen drawers.

A cot was already made up for us when we arrived and the house was lovely.

Fabulous rental!

We had a fabulous stay at Les Cerisiers, from the moment we arrived after a very warm welcome from Robert in an instant it was obvious we were going to have a wonderful stay. The property is beautifully maintained with lots of added extras that made us feel like we were home from home. Everywhere was very clean, I enjoy cooking as there was every utensil/pot/pan you could think of allowing us to be able to prepare meals comfortably. The pool and outdoor space was great and kept the children and adults entertained for hours. We couldn't rave about it enough with our family and friends getting lots of pictures immediately after we arrived because we were so enamoured with our choice. We are already planning to come back next year but for two weeks instead of one, not only was the rental inviting but the region is very charming. Thank you Robert for being so helpful and for letting us stay, we look forward to coming back (if you will have us!)

Comfortable, well equipped family house

Ten of us including four children under five enjoyed two weeks in the spacious farmhouse, everything we needed was provided and the owner Robert was on hand for any queries. Lovely pool and large safe garden to play in, we used the outside eating area every night. We visited markets, lakes and rivers all in the local area and cycled and walked in pretty countryside from the house. A lovely holiday for us all, thank you.

Wonderful family holiday in a peaceful setting

We had a fabulous week in Les Cerisiers, the house is well-equipped, clean and spacious and the owner, Robert, was very friendly and helpful. Kids loved the pool and outside space. Local village is quiet, but has boulangerie, small supermarket, hotel/restaurant and small bar and can be cycled too on the bikes available to borrow.

I bought the property because I love the ease of access from all transport links and enjoy the mini micro climate the Poitiou Charentes area has to offer. Despite exploring further afield in France I always feel at home when I return to this area. A wonderful place to unwind and enjoy the real France.

Nearest Airport : Poitiers at 46 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : Chaunay at 2 Kilometres Nearest Ferry : St Malo at 389 Kilometres Nearest Train : Ruffec at 20 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : N10 at 5 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : Chaunay at 2 Kilometres Car: recommended

Coast/Beach:

La Rochelle is 1.5 hr drive away. Which gives access to Ile de Re. Rochefort is 1.5 hr which gives access to Ile d'Oleron and Ile Madame

Travel:

Poitiers airport is 35 mins drive away. La Rochelle, Limoges, Tours and Angouleme are within 1 1/2 hrs drive. Bordeaux and Nantes airports 2 hrs drive.

St Malo 3.5 - 4 hr drive. Caen 4.5 - 5 hr drive. Cherbourg 5 - 5.5 hr drive. Calais 6 hr drive. A car is essential for this area car hire is available from all airport terminals and from poitiers. Eurostar to Lille/ Paris and then TVG to Poitiers is also possible. We can also arrange pick up from airports and Train Stations if needed.

Distances:

The village of Chaunay is situated 2km away which has a small supermarket, pharmacie, two boulangeries and a bar/tabac. Civray, Sauze Vaussais and Poitiers are within 15 - 30 mins drive for larger supermarkets. Lots of local markets are within 10-30 mins drive. La Valle des Sainges (large monkey park) and futurescope are great days out for all ages. The choice is endless.

Further Details:

Ruffec. Mansle, Melle, Niort, Le Marais Poitevin, Angouleme, Montmorillon, Cognac and Bordeaux are all lovely areas to explore with a wealth of history and interesting cultures, all details can be found within an orange folder provided for guests in the house.

A fully equipped kitchen and lounge area allows for ease with large parties, the rear garden is extensive with plenty of space and safe playing area for children, there is also a large gravelled area out the back of the property by the outside eating area for the more competitive person wishing to play boules. There is also a large enclosed courtyard to the front of the property with plenty of parking. The village of Chaunay benefits from a small supermarket, 2 boulangeries, a bar/tabac. pharmacie and a hotel , all within a nice 15 minute stroll or 2 minute bike ride away.

  • Notes on accommodation: A hand book at the house offers many suggestions of places to visit, with some comments from past guests so whether you are wanting an action packed holiday or a quiet retreat you will not be disappointed. the pool and garden are maintained for you. We are on hand to contact if any problems should arise during your stay. Please note the pool is not usually in operation until late May. There is also a stair gate available for use if needed. Outside: All outdoor furniture is provided there is a large table and chairs situated under the rustic outdoor eating area. Sun loungers, table, chairs and parasol are for use within the pool area, a seating area is also provided in the front courtyard.
