Overview

About the property

Lovely Cottage Surrounded by Beautiful Countryside.near Shropshire Union Canal

The conversion of an 1830's derelict blacksmith's cottage into "Anvil Cottage" was only completed in June 2015.Many of the original features have been retained including the main "A" frame of the structure. What has been a labour of love to restore the old derelict building, has produced a very cosy yet practical space. There is everything that 2 people could want for a holiday in the north Shropshire countryside.

There is a lovely, comfortable double bedroom with hanging wardrobe and a chest of drawers.

There is a shower/wc just off the main living space.

The good sized kitchen/living area has solid oak patio doors leading out onto a seating area. The doors allow plenty of natural light into the cottage as a whole.

Outside, there is quite a large gravelled area with space for 2 cars and a small lawn. The garden looks out over a meadow that is home to plenty of wildlife for all you nature lovers.

About 200 yards away is the Shropshire Union canal which is great for walking and cycling along, a further 200 yards takes you into Wales.

Lower Blackoe farm, where the owners of Anvil Cottage live, is just up the lane in case you ever need any help.We have a 5 caravan cl Caravan Club site on the opposite side of he road, which is useful if you want to share a holiday with caravanning friends or relatives. We also have a vintage caravan called Roberta for rental on the adjoining meadow that provides additional accommodation for 2 people.

The cottage is in a farming community so there is always things to see depending on the seasons.

About a 10 mins drive from the cottage is the Fenns and Whixall mosses that is a National Nature Reserve.About 10 mins drive away in the opposite direction is Brown Moss nature reserve that is very popular with bird watchers.

All in all if you're looking for a taste of the countryside you can't go far wrong in booking a holiday or short break to Anvil Cottage or Roberta for that retro get away!

There is WIFI at the cottage and in Roberta.

THE WASHING MACHINE/ TUMBLE DRYER,SHOULD YOU WISH TO USE THESE FACILITIES,ARE LOCATED IN AN OUT BUILDING AND NOT IN THE COTTAGE.

Lovely out of the way cottage

  • 4 of 5

This is a beautiful new cottage with everything. The inside and outside are decorated in the high standards. There is information in the cottage about the area.

The cottage is situated a pasture of a working dairy farm. The owners live across the way in a working boarding horse farm. Be prepared for air quality issues.

Owner's Response: Hi Heather, Thank you for your review of Anvil Cottage. I would just like to clarify a few things; firstly the small holding only has 3 pet cows and is not a dairy farm in any way shape or form. Secondly; I keep 2 horses for my own personal use and it is not a " boarding horse farm". I can only suggest that the "air quality issues " came from the local farmer who must have been muck spreading at the time, as we never do.I don't remember that happening during your stay. The air quality around here is usually as fresh as fresh can be as we are in the countryside .We have never had any complaints before. We are sorry that we couldn't extend your stay in Anvil Cottage as it was booked out for that period of time. Regards-- Celia

Cottage has expensive equipment, badly planned

  • 3 of 5

Cottage in nice quiet position with excellent parking and enjoyable views. The equipment provided is high quality , the bathroom lets the place down, wash basin is unusable, toilet seat is loose, shower space has no shelf for soap etc and cap over drain does not fit, the lighting intermittently failed and the hot towel rail very close to toilet ( risk of burning arms and legs ). Bathroom is not well maintained. The living room and bedroom are well equipped and comfortable, we found the galley to be very good once we had mastered the cooker controls. Overall we had a pleasant holiday, despite the weather, and we enjoyed the box of chocolates, Thank you.
