Anvil Cottage....... - ANVIL COTTAGE

Overview

Property

Updated: 04-Dec-2016
Lovely Cottage Surrounded by Beautiful Countryside.near Shropshire Union Canal

The conversion of an 1830's derelict blacksmith's cottage into "Anvil Cottage" was only completed in June 2015.Many of the original features have been retained including the main "A" frame of the structure. What has been a labour of love to restore the old derelict building, has produced a very cosy yet practical space. There is everything that 2 people could want for a holiday in the north Shropshire countryside.

There is a lovely, comfortable double bedroom with hanging wardrobe and a chest of drawers.

There is a shower/wc just off the main living space.

The good sized kitchen/living area has solid oak patio doors leading out onto a seating area. The doors allow plenty of natural light into the cottage as a whole.

Outside, there is quite a large gravelled area with space for 2 cars and a small lawn. The garden looks out over a meadow that is home to plenty of wildlife for all you nature lovers.

About 200 yards away is the Shropshire Union canal which is great for walking and cycling along, a further 200 yards takes you into Wales.

Lower Blackoe farm, where the owners of Anvil Cottage live, is just up the lane in case you ever need any help.We have a 5 caravan cl Caravan Club site on the opposite side of he road, which is useful if you want to share a holiday with caravanning friends or relatives. We also have a vintage caravan called Roberta for rental on the adjoining meadow that provides additional accommodation for 2 people.

The cottage is in a farming community so there is always things to see depending on the seasons.

About a 10 mins drive from the cottage is the Fenns and Whixall mosses that is a National Nature Reserve.About 10 mins drive away in the opposite direction is Brown Moss nature reserve that is very popular with bird watchers.

All in all if you're looking for a taste of the countryside you can't go far wrong in booking a holiday or short break to Anvil Cottage or Roberta for that retro get away!

There is WIFI at the cottage and in Roberta.

THE WASHING MACHINE/ TUMBLE DRYER,SHOULD YOU WISH TO USE THESE FACILITIES,ARE LOCATED IN AN OUT BUILDING AND NOT IN THE COTTAGE.

One Week Break

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is situated in a very quiet and rural lane, it is very clean and well equipped. It makes a good base with lots of places to visit, these include Whitchurch, Chester, North Wales, Shrewsbury and Canals etc. Note, the only query we found was finding the washing machine, this is not in the cottage but can be found just up the road in the old dairy which is in the entrance of the owners property.

Overall a great place to stay for a peaceful break.

Superb little cottage that is extremely well-equipped and located in an idyllic country spot.

  • 4 of 5

Very welcoming owners who were useful whenever we had questions and were as helpful as they could be with a wifi issue that was not their fault. Although it feels remote, the cottage is very close to the major roads that take you to the sights in this beautiful part of the country. Highly recommended for a couple wanting a relaxing getaway.

Owner's Response: We're glad that you enjoyed your stay at Anvil Cottage. Sorry to hear that you didn't manage to find the the washing machine and dryer that are both located in the dairy in the main barn, across the road from the cottage. As the cottage is very bijou there isn't the space for everything! As we live 30 metres up the lane from Anvil Cottage we are always available just in case you need any help locating the facilities. Thank you.

Very clean and tidy, although compact, but had everything you would need for a short or long stay.

  • 5 of 5

Very peaceful and relaxing stay ,well out of the way, an ideal location to get away from the rat race or explore the surrounding areas.

Not disturbed in any way by the owners and left to our own devices , unless we needed anything , which we only had to ask.

Although WIFI is available ,we had limited mobile phone connectivity, but that made it more of a relaxing break.

Thank you Tom & Sue

A lovely cottage in a peaceful location

  • 5 of 5

We have just spent a week in this lovely cottage and it was everything we could have hoped for. A very peaceful location with lovely views and a very short stroll to the banks of the Shropshire Union Canal where my husband fished and I read my books. The cottage has been thoughtfully designed with everything needed for a self catering stay. The owner, Celia, who lives just up the lane was unobtrusive, but very helpful when asked, a perfect combination! Our best day out was to the Iron Bridge, followed by a very short car journey to the Victorian Town, both highly recommended.

Many thanks for a great holiday.

Owner's Response: Hi Valerie. Thank you for such a fab review of Anvil Cottage .It was lovely talking to you both and I might take up cheese making because of it! Glad that your husband got to go fishing despite the terrible weather and it was a shame that you cut your stay short,I imagine for the same reason .If only we could order the weather like we can most other things. Take care. With very best wishes --Dave and Celia
