About Steven

Brynamman is a village which I am proud to call home; now living in the hustle and bustle of Brighton, I love my trips back to my homeland and am always taken aback by how beautiful the backdrop of the Black mountains are over the village. With my family still living there, I enjoy going home to speak my native language Welsh. My work gets me traveling the country and the world regularly and with 14 years of staying in hotels weekly, I have an eye for product, quality, service and comfort. I hope you book with us and enjoy the village, the area, and the cottage as much as I do.

An "Egg-selent", characterful Welsh cottage in a great location

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is exactly as described - it is a characterful, old Welsh cottage. That means some low doorways, a few low-hanging lights, a beam or two and narrow steep stairs. If that's what you like, this is the place for you! A kissing gate at the top of the lane (10 mins walk, max) takes you straight onto the Black Mountains but the centre of the village is minutes in the opposite direction, where you can find a shop, chemist, authentic 1920s cinema :-) and the Black Mountain Centre (great cafe!). The weather was a bit dicey so we appreciated the log burner and when the boiler stopped working (no heating or hot water), the owner had an emergency plumber with us within the hour to fix it (on Easter Sunday!). Couldn't have asked for more. The kitchen has everything you could need - all of it new, I think - and plenty of crockery and utensils. I successfully cooked Easter Sunday lunch for 7 adults and 3 kids - it was a squeeze but everyone was fed, watered and happy and the kids enjoyed Easter Egg hunting in the garden. All in all, we would love to come back and spend more time here. Thanks Team Nant Melyn!

Magical Christmas break!

  • 5 of 5

We’ve had the most relaxing stay at Nant Melyn over the Christmas period and cannot fault your wonderful home and how welcome we were made to feel. The cottage is very clean and tidy but also feels like a cosy home from home. It’s comfortable and well stocked, with everything you could need (and more) for a self catering stay.

Everything had been considered, from the welcome basket of goodies for us and our dog, to the beautiful Christmas tree and festive decorations around the house.

The information folder contains both local knowledge for the surrounding area together with recommendations for pubs and takeaways.

We visited Brynamman cinema and The Tregib Arms and found the local people very welcoming and friendly.

Freesat, apple box and an android box provided excellent entertainment for nights spent in by the cosy log burner with logs for purchase at a very reasonable rate.

Having the use of the washing machine, dryer and dishwasher was extremely useful and the complimentary coffee, tea and toiletries were an unexpected bonus.

Communication from Steven was clear and helpful from start to finish, thank you very much.

We have no hesitation in recommending your wonderful home to friends and family and definitely want to return!

Cozy and blissfully quiet cottage in a beautiful part of Wales. A real treat!

  • 5 of 5

Thanks to Steve and Jean for making our stay at Nant Melyn so comfortable. We have rarely come across such a well thought through and comfortable property with little touches to help make our stay successful. A basket of Welsh Cakes and Wine on arrival and excellent aromatherapy sleep spray for your pillow - what more can you ask for!

Comfy beds, a good shower and a well stocked kitchen if you want to eat in, but good home cooking in the many Carmarthenshire pubs if you don't.

All the local people we met were extremely helpful and friendly and went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed our trip to Wales.

We were blessed with a whole week of sunshine, so no need of the wood burner, but we imagined how that would have only added to the snug factor.

Toby our Border Collie loved the terraced garden and the walks up the lane and over the stunning mountains nearby.

Highly recommended - the trip over the mountains via Trapp (beautiful sunsets from the top!), to Llandeilo and Dinefwr Castle. The National Botanical Gardens of Wales ( Note: if you have a dog then Monday is the only day they can join you walking round ).

Would love to return and continue our exploration of such a stunning country with warm and welcoming people.

Avoid Airport Hell - visit Wales for a wonderful holiday instead !

Excellent cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We loved this cottage - it was beautifully decorated, well equipped and spotlessly clean. There were lots of great touches such as some complimentary Welsh cakes and even dog biscuits to make us feel really welcome!

The cottage is full of those little finer touches found at home, which make it all the more welcoming, a great base to explore the Brecon Beacons and other areas of Wales, would definitely recommend to anyone interested in Wales, geography and history.
