Unique & Cosy 2-bed cottage pretty garden, close to Dreamland, Margate

Updated: 10-Oct-2016
Lovely place to stay for romantic coastal break, sleeps 4, log burner

Everywhere you look you will be delighted by the unusual design touches and ideas that bring urban glamour and seaside chic together to make a wonderful place to stay.

Stepping in this historical cottage won't take you back in time, as its contemporary design is bright, modern and very different to what you may expect.

The cottage is compact and bijou - so space is cleverly used and may not be ideal for large/tall people who are looking for spacious surroundings. (although the owner is large and tall!)

The cottage has an open plan kitchen, dining area and sitting room with log burner on the ground floor leading out to the pretty sunny garden with outside seating, lawn and garden beach hut.

The sitting room, has art from British designer and illustrator Andy Tuohy, a Shell Grotto inspired fireplace, a lovely log burning stove and is stocked with everything you need to enjoy a cosy night in. There is a tv, dvd player and selection of dvd's and book selection for you to indulge in. The cottage also has WIFI which is free for you to use.

In the kitchen, the design mixes urban and industrial features there's a fridge with small freeze compartment, mircowave, induction hob and electric cooker and everything you need to rustle up a tasty meal. There's space to dine inside or outside plus a garden beach hut with BBQ if wanted. There's a downstairs bathroom with bath and overhead shower.

On your way upstairs, take a moment to look up and spot the blue and cloudy sky, before entering into the two bedrooms.

There's a glamorous mermaid inspired bedroom 1 with double bed and luxurious linens, ready to offer you a cosy night sleep. Bedroom 2 is full of quirky delights that will surprise you and make you smile - there's a single cabin bed with a pull out single bed underneath, suitable for two children. Please note the second bedroom can sleep two but may not be ideal for older children such as tall teenagers or adults who like space! We want to be very clear that the second bedroom is cosy and when the bottom part of the cabin bed is pulled out there is very limited space in the room.

In the summer months (April-September) you can also use our beach hut at Minnis Bay - but please make sure to request this at the time of booking so we can make sure its ready for you and provide the key. Please note: The beach hut is not available from October-March.

The cottage is very close to Margate for a visit to the newly opened Dreamland vintage theme park (take a step back in time for a traditional seaside visit) or the stylish art gallery of Turner Contemporary for free art and events.

You are within walking distance (15-30 minutes depending on how fast you walk!) of the beautiful blue flag beach at Minnis Bay, ideal for swimming, walks and bike rides. Follow the coast round to Westgate, Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate if you enjoy a stroll. The village of Birchington has everything you need from pubs, shops, restaurants, takeaways and gift shops.

Bookings during peak season:

Please note we take Saturday to Saturday bookings during peak season.

About the Owner

I live locally with my partner Kevin and young son. We love the beautiful sandy beaches around Thanet which has so much to offer residents and visitors alike. You will often find me walking or riding around the coast on a sunny day or popping into see some art at Turner Contemporary when the sky turns grey.

Lovely cottage

We had another lovely weekend at the cottage.

The weather was again amazing, so we used the beach hut twice.

We cycled to and from Margate too, which was great.

Thank you for another great long weekend.

Lovely, unique cottage.

We had a great time at Flint Cottage. We loved all the vintage and modern interior touches. I loved the Andy Tuohy art work! Much nicer than a bland 'beige' normal holiday let. Great high street, and delicious Fish and chips from The Seabells. The added bonus is you get the use of the owners beach hut on Minnis Bay. We were very lucky with the weather, and had a lovely time on the beach, which has a small beach cafe and a bar/restaurant, and portaloos! Dreamland in Margate is only a 15min or so drive away, and our kids loved it. They have done a great renovation job. We will definitely be re-booking Flint cottage.

Very nicely decorated with some wonderful touches!

We had a very wet (bad planning on our part) but wonderful week in this delightful small cottage.

The property had been decorated very well, with a beach/sea/retro feel running throughout.

On arrival we found a lovely welcome hamper with essentials (inc. wine) to keep us going until we had time to shop.

The High Street in Birchington is just around the corner and has everything you could wish for.

We loved the beach hut at Minnis Bay and the sunsets (when it wasn't raining) were stunning!

WIFI at the cottage was a definite plus!! Especially for the kids with their tablets etc.The only slight downfalls to the property were the shower curtain - shower is too powerful for it and sometimes left the floor soaked and the freezer door did not close properly which meant some of our frozen food thawed.

All in all we had a great week here and would happily return, hopefully with the sun next time!

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review John and we have used your feedback to make some changes to the cottage - which includes a new retro style fridge and new shower head which should solve those issues.

Kleine knusse vakantiewoning

  • 3 of 5

Leuke woning, schoon maar klein. Frisse inrichting. Weinig bergruimte.

From the Owner

Flint cottages looked so lovely from the outside and my partner Kevin has lovely restored the cottage to make it bright, modern and filled with unique and unusal design touches. There is so much to enjoy from the log burning stove, the quirky decorations to the lovely garden. I hope you enjoy the cottage as much as we do.

From the Owner

The cottage is a delight, small but with great design, it has a real sense of space that you may not expect from a historical cottage of its age. I love the Shell Grotto inspired fireplace for a winter's snuggle on the sofa or enjoying a glass of bubbles out in the garden of a summer evening. I also love that I can take a walk across the fields to Minnis Bay in between 15-30 minutes and head down to the beach hut for a beachy afternoon and a sea swim!
