Great holiday location

  • 4 of 5

We spent a week in the Bretagne and the apartment could not have been located any better - 15 minutes away from the beach, 15 minutes away from the nearest castle, 30/45 minutes away from the bigger towns and on top of that only a few minutes drive to the nearest supermarket. Sheila is a very caring host and the welcoming pack of fresh bread, cheese, fruit and cider was very much appreciated. There are too many beaches to recommend just one but we did like the beach at St Enogat (in Dinard) and Pointe du Chevet at Saint Jacut de la mere. Cap Frehel is worth a visit as is the beautiful town of Dinan (try and and have a meal at La Lycorne which has a fantastic menu for lovers of mussels).

Les Camélias La Ville Oreux Pluduno 22130. Sheila Hemming

  • 5 of 5

We received a lovely welcome from Sheila, with a tipple of the local brew and produce. The kitchen had all the utensils you will ever need. The whole apartment was very spacious, very neat and tidy. There was a good selection of local maps to hand to plan your visits.

This rural setting was the ideal location to access the beautiful beaches just a few miles north and also the towns of St Malo and Dinan.

A HyperU superstore was just a couple of miles away on the edge of Plancoet and easily accessible without having to cross the town. This was a big plus.

Altogether a very pleasant place to stay. Highly recommended.

Un appartement très agréable près de superbes plages!

  • 5 of 5

The Region

Affectionately known by some as the Emerald coast ( Côte d'Emeraude) , this part of Brittany is reputed for its exceptional beaches and is a favourite with locals and holiday makers alike. It has a strong rich cultural heritage with deeply entwined celtic roots and a connection to the land that goes back centuries. The history, celtic connections and cuisine bring a unique flavour to the region, and it offers many reasons to visit, the traveller can find something for all the family here.

The coastline offers not just a visual feast but a veritable smorgasbord of seafood reflected in the menu selection at local restaurants. Inland, the landscape is one of rolling hills and fields interspersed with ancient tracts of forest. There are a number of museums dedicated to maintaining and promoting traditional arts, agricultural practice and local breeds of livestock.

The pink granite coast ( Côte de Granite Rose) is within easy travelling distance and its spectacular landscapes are a rare beauty, one of only three sites in the world where pink granite is found. .

The Parc Naturel Regional d'Armorique encompasses the Monts d'Arrées, a granite escarpment rising to form wide expanses of rocky heathland. One of 48 national parks, it was the second in the country to be recognised as of national importance.

The region is a popular bird watcher destination, and there are a variety of habitats and environments to ensure a large range of resident and migrant birds at all times of the year.

The climate is temperate with the gulfstream and coastal influence making winters moderate and summers long and hot, without the fierce heat of southern europe. .

Traffic even in the busiest times of the year is rarely more than a quiet hum, the excellent road system means that travel to and from your destination is comfortable and unflustered.

Adventure parks and aqua sports on the coast and inland around Jugon les lacs cater for the adventure seeker. Close by ( 5 kms) there is the forest de la Hunaudaye & Saint Aubin in total over 3000 hectares with numerous voie vertes ( green paths), a must for ramblers and cyclists to explore. As are the coastal paths, such as along to Cap Frehel or further afield to the estuary of Sables d'Or and the coastal town of Erquy.

Each little town and village strives to compete for the most picturesque with an evident pride in well tended gardens and flower boxes mixed with old world granite architecture. In summer the bars and restaurants spill out onto the streets, to make the most of the longer days and markets buzz with stalls of local produce and a mix of artisanal crafts on show.

A day trip to the island of Jersey by ferry is easy and low cost from the port of Saint Malo,a visit to the Jersey wildlife conservation trust is popular.

Some suggestions for tried and tested restaurants and lots more information on attractions and places to visit are available in the apartments information pack.
