Overview

About the property

3 Bedroom Cottage, Sleeps 5. Suitable for Families and Couples

Our lovely waterfront cottage provides flexible, light and airy accommodation in the lovely village of Rowhedge which is is ideally located for easy access to the Essex seafront at Mersea Island, Brightlingsea, Walton and Clacton as well as being 10 minutes from Colchester, an hour from London and 45 minutes from the popular Suffolk coastal region including Snape, Aldeburgh, Thorpeness and Southwold.

The property is right on the waterfront in the heart of this quiet and welcoming village. The house is surprisingly spacious and has been newly refurbished. It very comfortably sleeps 5 and has a double bedroom with en suite, a twin bedroom, a single bedroom and family bathroom and there is easily room for a travel cot as well. There is a large living area with comfortable seating, a dining table and chairs, a modern kitchen with all the appliances and a small back garden which is a real sun trap and lovely for outdoor dining. There are two assigned parking spaces.

This is our much loved home and is regularly used by us and our family and friends.

Rowhedge is a quite village with a welcoming community and is convenient for access. There is a Co-op, a post office and the excellent Anchor pub and restaurant as well as the Albion a little further along the village.

The cottage's pièce de résistance is the view across the river Colne estuary to the picturesque village of Wivenhoe and the nature reserve, it is a tranquil and lovely start to every day.

About Heather Waugh

Our parents originally bought this house as their retirement home and my brother and I now own it. We grew up in Colchester and although our parents moved to Kent once we had left home they returned to the area when they retired and stumbled upon this lovely cottage whilst out for a walk one day, it was love at first sight.

We are both busy professionals with families but our roots remain in the Colchester area and we love this house for its tranquil location, it's warm atmosphere and its happy family memories.

We all regularly use the cottage as a retreat and for family get togethers.

Heather Waugh purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Heather Waugh chose Essex

If you've ever dreamed of a house on the river then you couldn't fail to love the location and views from here.

What makes this cottage unique

You just can't beat the view, it's quite something to open the curtains in the morning and gaze out across the uninterrupted river view. The house is spacious and adaptable and Rowhedge is quite and friendly and very convenient with easy access to roads. In 10 minutes you can either be on the beach in one direction or in the town in the other. The surrounding area provides a large and diverse cross-section of sights, activities, entertainment, shopping and restaurants.

Perfect stay!

  • 5 of 5

Had a wonderful week at this extremely clean, excellently and thoughtfully equipped property in a most perfect location. The view over and along the river is so relaxing with lots of wildlife activity to watch. The house is extremely light and airy and on very cold days was so warm to come back to in both ambience and temperature! In addition to the property, the situation is ideal for exploring the area and there is much to offer for those wishing to be outdoors. Just perfect.

A beautiful cottage in a superb riverside location, an ideal spot for a peaceful getaway.

  • 5 of 5

a well kept and prepared house in a beautiful riverside location. an ideal place for a UK break. Plenty to see and do in the area, with walks from the door step. The local pub (good food) is only a short wobble away, and a convenience store and co-op within 2 minutes . Colchester is a 10 minute bus or car ride and well worth the trip. Mersea island is only 20 minutes or so by car and again well worth a look, particularly if you are interested in seeing the abundant bird life in the area. Dedham and Flatford mill are well within an hours drive (park at Dedham and walk the mile or so along the river Stour to Flatford, very pleasant). A very pleasant week for us, we thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Essex.

We had a really enjoyable stay over Christmas at this cottage. There is always something to see on the river, the local pub has wonderful food and the cottage is really well equipped. A joy to come home to at the end of the day..

Just Perfect

  • 5 of 5

The property is well situated, right on the river with fantastic views beyond, footpaths straight from the door and a ferry. The first impression of the property was of a warm cosy house, that is much loved by the owners. If you can manage to drag yourself away from the views from the windows, we found everything needed for a lovely stay, it was very well equipped. There are shops in the village, a supermarket in Colchester and a choice of two pubs in the village, the one we visited served excellent food and a warm friendly service. There are lots of attractions in the area to visit. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
