Waterfront Cottage In The Lovely Village Of Rowhedge, Near Mersea Island

Overview

Property

Updated: 27-Nov-2016
3 Bedroom Cottage, Sleeps 5. Suitable for Families and Couples

Our lovely waterfront cottage provides flexible, light and airy accommodation in the lovely village of Rowhedge which is is ideally located for easy access to the Essex seafront at Mersea Island, Brightlingsea, Walton and Clacton as well as being 10 minutes from Colchester, an hour from London and 45 minutes from the popular Suffolk coastal region including Snape, Aldeburgh, Thorpeness and Southwold.

The property is right on the waterfront in the heart of this quiet and welcoming village. The house is surprisingly spacious and has been newly refurbished. It very comfortably sleeps 5 and has a double bedroom with en suite, a twin bedroom, a single bedroom and family bathroom and there is easily room for a travel cot as well. There is a large living area with comfortable seating, a dining table and chairs, a modern kitchen with all the appliances and a small back garden which is a real sun trap and lovely for outdoor dining. There are two assigned parking spaces.

This is our much loved home and is regularly used by us and our family and friends.

Rowhedge is a quite village with a welcoming community and is convenient for access. There is a Co-op, a post office and the excellent Anchor pub and restaurant as well as the Albion a little further along the village.

The cottage's pièce de résistance is the view across the river Colne estuary to the picturesque village of Wivenhoe and the nature reserve, it is a tranquil and lovely start to every day.

About the Owner

Our parents originally bought this house as their retirement home and my brother and I now own it. We grew up in Colchester and although our parents moved to Kent once we had left home they returned to the area when they retired and stumbled upon this lovely cottage whilst out for a walk one day, it was love at first sight.

We are both busy professionals with families but our roots remain in the Colchester area and we love this house for its tranquil location, it's warm atmosphere and its happy family memories.

We all regularly use the cottage as a retreat and for family get togethers.

Just Perfect

The property is well situated, right on the river with fantastic views beyond, footpaths straight from the door and a ferry. The first impression of the property was of a warm cosy house, that is much loved by the owners. If you can manage to drag yourself away from the views from the windows, we found everything needed for a lovely stay, it was very well equipped. There are shops in the village, a supermarket in Colchester and a choice of two pubs in the village, the one we visited served excellent food and a warm friendly service. There are lots of attractions in the area to visit. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

A lovely stay in a lovely location

  • 4 of 5

It was lovely to stay in a house that is obviously used by the family who owns it - it felt like a home. All that we needed was there & it was very tastefully furnished & well maintained. The fresh flowers were a delightful touch. We have already recommended it to friends. Heather was kind & helpful when we needed to make contact.

Lovely house at beautiful, quiet location

  • 4 of 5

A lovely, quiet house with nice furnishing & a great view in the front. We also enjoyed the back garden and the little park nearby. The place was clean and especially the kitchen well equipped.

Unfortunately the shower next to the master bedroom had absolutely no pressure and could not be used for showering. There were also some equipments in the house falling off/coming loose like a toilet paper holder or a toilet seat . Twice we contacted the owners by sms but unfortunately never got a reply.

Wonderful house by the water

  • 5 of 5

We were four adults and one nine year old staying for five nights in June. The location is fantastic with lovely views over the river to Wivenhoe. As we had gathered for a family reunion in Wivenhoe we made good use of the volunteer run weekend only ferry over there. At other times, we drove via the nearest bridge in Colchester and through the University grounds. The house was very well eqipped and spotlessly clean. It is furnished and styled to a very high standard and we couldn't have wished for better. The local pub (one of two), a short walk away, does great food and real ale and has a lovely water front position. They were very busy the night we ate there but coped beautifully with friendly and efficient service.

The owners of the property were very helpful when we inadvertently caused some minor damage in the kitchen. We were upset that we had created problems for them but they did not make a drama out of the situation.

I would recommend the property wholeheartedly. We were pleasantly surprised to find how spacious it is inside as the photos do not do it full justice. We had a lovely stay in a truly pretty part of Essex and this was due in great part to the relaxed and comfortable ambience of Waterfront Cottage.
