This property has an authentic rustic charm coupled with a high specification modern finish throughout, its the perfect base to either explore the region or just relax in a quiet secluded corner of the architecturally protected village of Laleu.

A large well equipped kitchen/ dining area make it the ideal retreat to enjoy long meals with family and friends followed by a digestif in the 33 square metre lounge. The house has 2 bedrooms plus a newly decorated studio bedroom with ensuite (great for guests or teenagers to have as a place of their own) .

The house has a delightful garden enclosed by an original Charente stone wall.

A car is optional (we do not normally use) as by bike or bus La Rochelle is approximately 15 mins away as are the famous sandy beaches of Ile de Re. Must haves for a stay in France, Boulangerie ,Charcuterie and Cafe/Bar/Restaurant are all within a 5 min walk. La Rochelle airport is a 15 min walk away.

end of summer sunshine in spotlessly clean house

I have just returned from a lovely end of summer sunshine break with my husband and another couple. The house was fabulously clean and the kitchen, and lounge were spacious, light and airy. The garden was large , private and very quiet. The local supermarket and boulangerie ( one minute walk) were convenient for fresh breakfasts and all other supplies. A larger supermarket was a a few minutes cycle ride away. A couple of evenings we caught the local bus into the lovely old town of La Rochelle and took a quick taxi ride home later. Most days we cycled in the Ile de re where there are numerous off road cycle trails. Altogether a relaxing ( yet active with the cycling) and sunny end to the summer. .

The Ile de Re accessible by a 3 km bridge and free to pedestrians and cyclists offers endless number of beaches, picturesque ports, fantastic markets, salt marshes and a bird reserve which can be cycled through. The island is a cyclist's delight as cycle runs on flat terrain cover the island. You may even catch an enthusiast on their return from a 60km "tour de l'ile" as you set off for your day.

The area is perfect for gourmets and seafood lovers as oyster and mussel beds line the coast and a range of great restaurants line the town and local villages. The beer and wine deserve to be tasted and can be found amongst other places in the traditional colourful market in La Rochelle town centre. Enjoy the live music and craft stalls in La Rochelle every evening in the summer where the old port opens up to pedestrians only.

The location of the house lends itself to a versatile holiday packed with variety for all the family given the ease of access to the town centre and nightlife as well as the broad range of daytime activities. In addition to beach trips and town visits, the coastline from the house can be cycled on for hours on adapted pistes passing fishing huts and delightful villages. A sailing centre and horse riding school are within 2 km. A kite-surf teaching base on the Ile de Re at the foot of the bridge offers the latest trend in sea sport.
