About Simon Armstrong

We have lived in this part of France for over 12 years and enjoy a beautiful rural lifestyle with our 2 horses, 2 Labradors and 6 cats.

Simon Armstrong purchased this cottage in 2004

Why Simon Armstrong chose Loubens

Our Gite Melanie will suit people who love the countryside, whether to walk, cycle or just to explore by car. The spectacular Pyrenees are close by offering some of the best mountain scenery you will ever see. There are wonderful woodland, lake and mountain walks/trails to suit all abilities. The area has a total 'unspoilt' feel and this coupled with some wonderful medieval towns, cathar legends, food and local hospitality ... any guests are assured of a great stay.

What makes this cottage unique

One of the things that drew us to the property is that although we are in a rural setting it is not remote. There is easy access to medieval towns like Foix and Mirepoix, Carcassonne is only 1 hr away and 'La Ville Rose' .. Toulouse - makes for another wonderful day out .. there you can visit the Airbus factory and see just how they build an A380, or wander through the lovely streets that have great boutique shops, and a huge choice of restaurants and bars

Quiet, Comfortable, and Well Cared-for Cottage in a Lovely Location

  • 5 of 5

Simon and Lynda are perfect hosts for this lovely cottage in the foothills of the Pyrenees. Helpful, accommodating, friendly - what more could you want! The location is superbly rural and the cottage itself is well-cared for, clean, and well-equipped. Ripe Mirabelle apricots plucked from adjacent trees were a treat on our morning cereal! The cottage itself is a short drive from wonderful medieval sites like Mirepoix, Foix, and (a bit further) Carcassone.

Caves (grotte) are plentiful locally, and we really enjoyed the 14,000 year-old cave paintings at the nearby Grotte de Niaux. In July, fetes are ubiquitous in all the towns, and we enjoyed the one in nearby Baulou, which we walked to from the cottage (2 km). The Canal du Midi runs through Toulouse to the Mediterranean and we rented bikes in Ramonville-Saint-Agne (just south of Toulouse) for a ride on the excellent and scenic bike trail along the canal. To the SE, Orlu has an interesting Wolf Park (La Maison des Loups) and other attractions that children will enjoy. Swimming and boating are close by at Lac Montbel, as well.

Lots to see and do in a relaxing location. Highly recommended!
