About Sarah-Jane Beaumont

As my Grandma (Annie) used to say “Stranger things happen at sea”!

A visit to the Loire Valley in 2006 didn't see me return. Today I'm Mme Beaumont, wife to Gérald, a bilingual French wine professional, and Mum to our two gorgeous children, Augustin (9yrs) and Constance (7yrs), who is a wonderful little teacher if you wish to brush up on your French. Making our family '5' is our friendly rescue cat, Biscotte who you'll find sleeping amongst the flower beds.

We warmly welcome you to our family home where we hope you will enjoy the peacfulness of our village setting, the regions rich history and attractions, local cuisine and diverse wines.

Sarah-Jane Beaumont purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Sarah-Jane Beaumont chose Vienne

The Village of Pouançay and La Bellevue :

A moments walk from La Bellevue is the reputed seafood restaurant the Trésor Belge. Serving lunch and dinner, also popular is their 'happy hour' where Belguim beers can be enjoyed in their pretty garden (closed Mon & Tue).

Our peaceful village is a countryside setting of sunflower fields an vineyards. Choosing to relax at the cottage, stroll along vineyard pathways, cycle passing-by sleepy hamlets... being close to the market town of Montreuil-Bellay, half-way between Saumur and Chinon, local amenities, food markets, flea-markets and discovery of the Loires rich history, majestic châteaux and attractions are all easily accessible.

--------------------

Wine Tastings with Gérald, a bilingual wine professional :

Discover the wines from the Loire Valley with Gérald during a fun and light-hearted wine tasting tutorial in our, once dwellings, troglodyte caves. Bilingual, French and a wine professional from an Angevin wine making family, Gérald will share inherent knowledge while introducing wines reflective of the regions diversity, explaining the tasting technique and the secrets hidden within a French wine label, and more...

Guestbook comments from the manager

From the photos and description, we thought that this cottage would be good. But, it was great ! ! The location is a little out of the way, but the positives from that are that it is central to numerous other towns and attractions, it is quiet, and the village is charming. Sarah and Gerald were perfect hosts, offering anything if needed. Try to visit the hosts' business in Samur if possible, to see Gerald in his element. We enjoyed our stay so much; it was worth more than a 5 ! !

Wonderful accommodation in delightful spot

  • 5 of 5

This is our third stay at this delightful gite and we are already looking forward to our next visit, hopefully next year.

The gite itself is immaculate and very well equipped with a charming French atmosphere. There is a private outdoor area with beautiful flowers. It is situated in a small hamlet surrounded by fields and has vineyards very close by. Sarah-Jane and Gerald are extremely helpful and friendly and not in any way intrusive.

The gite is close to the main road which takes you to the nearest town with great ease. It really is a wonderful experience to spend the week here.

A hidden gem

  • 5 of 5

This was our second visit to Annie's House and it did not disappoint. Once again we were made very welcome by Sarah-Jane and indeed the whole family. The house and gardens are immaculate and testimony to Sarah-Jane's attention to detail. We had a wonderful bottle of red wine, chosen for us by Gerald, and a very tasty platter of charcuterie and cheeses on our first evening, a great indulgent way to start our holiday. This was supposed to be followed by Tarte au Citron, but we were too full and so postponed the enjoyment of this to the next day. Once again these did not disappoint.

We enjoyed time relaxing in the garden making use of the outdoor furniture and the peace of the pretty quintessentially French village. We also set off exploring the environs on foot and made use of the small rural unmade roads, visiting Berrie and the disused windmill which is a view point. This holiday saw visits to the chateau at Breze, an amazing partly subterranean world, the tapestry of the apocalypse at Angers, which is breath taking for anyone who sews, and the gardens at Villandry. I would strongly recommend all of these.

We once again visited the Bistrot les Tontons, run by Gerald, and had a lovely meal in an intimate environment with locally sourced high quality food. You need to arrive feeling hungry and will leave feeling soporific and replete.

We will certainly be visiting for a third time and hopefully many more. This is really our home from home in France.

Thank you.

Delightful stay in Annie's House, excellent accommodation and wonderful owners.ab

  • 5 of 5

We wanted to explore some of the Loire area and were attracted by the photos and information to book a week at Annie's House. The response and information from Sarah- Jane Beaumont was excellent with information about the cottage and the surrounding area, clear directions as how to find the accommodation and a willingness to answer any questions that we might want to ask about our booking. We were warmly welcomed by Sarah- Jane who spent time showing us around the property and explaining all the details of the contents. The cottage is beautifully decorated and organised and had everything that we needed for a comfortable stay, including very good equipment for cooking our own meals. The whole place was immaculate, clean and tidy. There is a pleasant sitting room with comfy sofa and chair and enough DVDs to last more than a week, a well organised kitchen and dining area and an excellent bathroom, all on the ground floor. The WiFi was good too with a strong signal. Upstairs there is a spacious bedroom. Outside there is a lovely, sunny area for sitting which is separated from the owners' garden. In this way, we had the best of two worlds with access to the owner, should we need help, but privacy for all the time we needed.

The location was good too. Set in the country the village has no shop but it is only a few minutes drive to the next village where, on a Sunday, we found a good bakers and butchers open. Not far away is Montreuil-Bellay, an attractive town where there is a super- market, a good food market on a Tuesday, interesting chateau and a few restaurants. From the cottage we were able to visit some of the interesting places in the Loire. One high-light was a visit to Saumur which is a pleasant town with an excellent market on a Saturday. The chateau there is being renovated so that, unfortunately, was closed. A high-light of the whole time, however, was lunch at the Bistrot, Les Tonton, owned by Sarah-Jane and her husband, Gerald. In true bistrot style, the food was fresh, well cooked and beautifully presented. We were so well looked after by Gerald and his team.

I was sad to leave as we had enjoyed our stay and our meeting with the whole family.

Peaceful and relaxing time

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in this lovely gite before it remains on our list of favourite places to stay in the Loire. The gite is very well equipped, clean and tidy and in a lovely peaceful location surrounded by fields and vines, but not too far from anything that the Loire has to offer in terms of attractions. The owners Sara-Jane and Gerald are wonderful hosts and they can be relied on to point you in the right direction if you are not familiar with the area and need some ideas on what do or where to eat. Highly recommended.

Beautiful gite and location 10 out of 10

  • 5 of 5

We have visited this gité six times now and will return again next year. I can't rate it high enough. The owners Gérald and Sarah-Jane are lovely hosts and absolutely nothing is too much for them. They are a lovely Anglo/French family with two great kids and a gorgeous cat. The gité has everything you could possibly need, it's always immaculate and very well equipped - great for self-catering. It's a quiet village location surrounded by vines and fields. There is plenty of walking, cycling, numerous markets and brocants, pretty villages and towns in the area to visit. We would definitely recommend this gité.

An idyllic, peaceful, homely stay

  • 5 of 5

This was a beautiful property and the owners are fantastic. They are discretely helpful and extremely welcoming. The property is beautifully clean and the evening food platter was wonderful, especially the Tarte au Citron pas comme les autres. Breakfast was beautifully presented and very tasty. Sarah is an owner who goes the extra mile. The owners also have a bistro in Saumur which is well worth a visit. It provides a compact menu with fresh local ingredients and a very leisurely paced meal which is ideal for relaxing and enjoying a slower pace of life whilst on holiday- we were made to feel very welcome. The food was amazing and so we visited twice!

We found plenty to do around and about and lots of ideas are provided by Sarah. We visited the Cadre Noir- the French equivalent of the Spanish riding school. This is worth looking up on the internet and pre-booking tickets.

I wouldn't only highly recommend it to friends and family we will be returning and we can't wait!

The village has a post office, baker (closed Wednesday and ask for the baguette named 'la tradition'). A highly reputed butcher much favoured by ourselves (try the rillettes d’oie and be prepared to queue on a Sunday morning!), alongside a little tabac (bar).

MONTREUIL-BELLAY (8kms) : the pretty medieval town of Montreuil-Bellay boasts a magnificent fairy tale Château whose impressive wall encloses the town centre today. An abundance of flower blooms throughout spring to the early months of winter, Montreuil-Bellay is a pretty town to discover.
