About Angela & David Clark

Darrynane is the Cornish family home of Angela & David Clark & family and has been since July 1998. We live here with our daughter, who is at University in Reading and our two mad working Cocker Spaniels and enjoy occasional visits from our two grown up children. We are normally around during the day attending to the garden and grounds and although we leave you alone to enjoy your holiday we are available should you need anything.

Angela & David Clark purchased this cottage in 1998

Why Angela & David Clark chose Saint Breward

Darrynane is located in a beautiful position surrounded by woods, it has it's own 40ft waterfall and the river. There are many walks from the cottage and nearby on Bodmin moor and the Camel Trail. Travelling around Cornwall is easy with the good local road network making both the North & South coast beaches, Tintagel, Boscastle, Padstow, Port Isaac and the Eden project and gardens of Heligan all easily accessible.

St Breward has its own well stocked shop, St Breward Stores and Post office and it is located next the The Old Inn - our great pub.

The Lodge is a one bedroomed property with good sized accommodation. It has a lounge with separate kitchen/dining room. Double with four poster bed and dressing area leading to the bathroom with shower. It has parking for 1 car and lovely woodland garden.

Lakeside cottage is a 2 bedroomed cottage with double and twin bedrooms. There is an L shaped lounge leading to the kitchen/dining area. It has a shower room. Outside there is parking for two cars and a terrace overlooking the oak woods and next to the waterfall and garden.

The Stables is a large two bedroomed property with double and twin/Superking option. It has a wetroom and further cloakroom. The large open plan living/dining/kitchen has french windows leading to the patio and back garden overlooking the Tor Stream and woods. There is access to the Darrynane Waterfall. What makes this cottage unique

Each cottage is detached set in its own private fenced and gated garden with access either to woods, the waterfall or the river. There is an ancient cave in the woods, did this once hide King Arthur?

Each season is special at Darrynane. Spring time is beautiful with the woodland carpet of Bluebells stunning Azaleas and Rhododendrons. On hot Summer days you can paddle in the pool at the bottom of Darrynane falls, our 35ft waterfall. In Autumn the trees turn from green to yellow and red providing a superb display and Winter when the granite in the woods turns green as the different moses emerge, you can snuggle in front of the cosy fire with a good book or watch a dvd. .

Dogs always love their visit to Darrynane. Each cottage has its own fenced and gated garden and Riverside, Lakeside and The Stables cottages they can freely run around the whole of the cottage and The Lodge has a beautiful woodland garden to explore.

What ever the season you can always look forward to coming home to a cosy cottage far from the madding crowd!

A totally relaxing break.

  • 5 of 5

The Lodge, located within beautiful wooded surroundings, provided us with total peace and quiet and very comfortable accommodation with every possible facility. Upon arrival, Angela and David made us feel very welcome and throughout our stay were most attentive to our needs. We loved The Lodge which was just to our liking and we felt very much at home. We found the location ideal for visiting numerous local attractions which we loved, particularly Tintagel and Port Isaac yet we were not too far removed from the very western tip of Cornwall which enabled us to spend a wonderful day at St Michael's Mount, which we had never visited before. In summation we had a terrific time with excellent hosts who we fully expect to meet again in the not too distant future. We would thoroughly recommend The Lodge to our family and friends.

Darrynane Holiday Cottages, sleeping up to 16 + cots, are located on the outskirts of the moorland village of St Breward with it’s Post Office and well stocked village stores open every day and local pub, The Old Inn all in the heart of Poldark Country.

St Breward Stores/Post Office and Newsagents is run by Christine and Denis. It is open from 8.am – 8pm Monday – Saturday and 9.am – 5pm on Sunday. It is well stocked with everything you may need for your self catering holiday. It has a daily delivery of bread, cakes and pasties from a local bakery. Gluten free products also available on request. You can pre-order groceries and have them delivered to the cottage for your arrival. If you wish to have something special on your holiday, Christine will be happy to help source this for you. You can order your required newspaper before you arrive and collect at your leisure.

The Post Office is available when the shop is open. They offer the usual services together with cash withdrawal.

The Old Inn, our local pub, has an excellent reputation amongst locals and visitors alike for food with a varied and extensive menu and a good range of local Cornish and national beers. There are also excellent pubs and eating places in Blisland, St Tudy, St Maybn, St Kew Highway, Chapel Amble and St Kew itself a short drive away.

The immediate locality offers a host of different levels of walking. These range from level walks on the Camel Trail and parts of Bodmin Moor. A few we like are Jubilee Rock, Alex Tor and King Arthurs’ Halls. Coombe and Mine Hill offer undulating wooded valley experiences. For the adventurous, who prefer a more challenging hike, routes across to Rough Tor and Brown Willy, the highest peaks in Cornwall, are a must.

Cycling is also a great way to see this lovely area with SUSTRANS Route Number 3 passing through Bodmin moor. The Camel Trail begins nearby at Wenford Bridge, and runs 17.5 miles to Padstow, passing through Bodmin and Wadebridge on the way.

For those who prefer to relax and chill the area around Delphi Bridge on the De Lank rivers offers a picnic and paddling haven for all ages.

Darrynane Holiday Cottages are set in an excellent North Cornwall location with the good local road network making the North & South Coast beaches easily accessible. Polzeath, the surf capital of the area, offers an all day experience for surfing, body boarding, rock pooling or just chilling in the summer sun! Around the corner is Daymer Bay, situated at the end of the River Camel estuary as it meanders towards the Atlantic Ocean. It provides a more sedate bathing option, as the waters gently lap at your ankles. Watch as the sea retreats leaving miles of sandy beaches. Along the coastline between the two beaches, accessed from the cliff top, are many sandy coves surrounded by mussel encrusted rock pools brimming with various sealife all waiting to be explored. Other major beaches nearby include Tintagel’s Trebarwith Strand and Bude’s Widemouth Bay. South Coast beaches include: East Looe, Polkerris, Gorran Haven, Par Sands and Porthpean.

Other destinations to consider during your stay, Bodmin Town with its Steam Railway, Jail and court room experience at the local tourist information centre, depicting an 19th Century murder trial. Wadebridge for shopping. Ladies and Gents clothing, shoes, antiques, wine, furniture or wedding dresses all available here and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee afterwards in one of its many cafes and tea rooms. Bude is also a good day out as you walk along the recently refurbished canal or enjoy the natural swimming pool. If the weather’s inclement experience the splash swimming pool with wave machine and slides.

If visiting gardens and ancients Houses are more your thing the National Trust’s Lanhydrock house or Pencarrow House, privately owned by the Molesworth-St Aubyn family are both a short drive away and the ever popular Eden Project with its breathtaking innovative biomes are all worth a day trip.

Other places to be considered are: Tintagel, Boscastle, Port Isaac, Padstow, Launceston and Tavistock
