About the property

Family room, in converted chapel. with lovely views. Walkers paradise

The Chapel House is an unusual, versatile and comfortable place to spend a holiday. It retains plenty of character with two pretty stained glass windows, ceiling mouldings in the main room, original wood flooring and lower wall paneling, and upstairs the original beams. It is made of slate mined just across the valley. It is easy to get to via the bustling and quaint little town of Chirk.

The large living space is essentially open plan. with a kitchen area, a large "rustic" dining table (made of floorboards reclaimed during the conversion), comfortably seating eight. There are two leather sofas, a log burner and central heating. There are plenty of games, books and CDs & radio, and the internet is available via the local BT hub for £6 per day, or £18 for five days (free if you are a BT customer). Please note that there is no television at present.

Upstairs there is a spacious family bedroom with one double and two single beds. The mattresses are new with 100% cotton sheets and plenty of pillows and throws including woolen blankets - for the depths of winter.

The bathroom has a roll top bath with shower attachment.

Later this year work will commence on a second bedroom in a semi basement room, (with two single beds and a bunk bed), shower room and underfloor heating. (Currently that room is not ready, so I would ask guests to only go downstairs in the unlikely event of needing to use the back door as a fire escape).

The main room will also have a sofa bed, so there will be sufficient accommodation to cater for large family gatherings, art & music courses etc).

Please note that mobile coverage is for the EE network only in the valley. In Chirk and elsewhere all networks are covered.

Regarding land, there is a patio at the front, and a side passage leading to the back door. Down the road near the river is a playing field.

About Hilary

I am of Welsh blood, brought up in Wirral, and have been on numerous family outings to the Llangollen area.

I am a dance teacher, teaching Ballet, Tap and Modern Dance at a dance school in Worcestershire, where I have a house.

Hilary purchased this house in 2014

Why Hilary chose Wales

With some savings to invest, I decided to look in earnest for a property as a holiday home, and to rent out. After months of looking I found this chapel. Not just a pretty building with space, but in a lovely spot. and with close family connections.

What makes this house unique

The chapel is small as chapels go, but inside it opens up like a tardis.

Driving there from Chirk, is very pleasant. A good smooth road with another view of this beautiful valley at every turn. The chapel is up on the valley side on what is no more than a small road with some houses on, though its called the High street. Further up it rapidly changes to a very steep narrow lane, which is the short cut to Llangollen. All of 4 miles, slightly hair raising in the car , and needing plenty of puff if on foot - but the views are worth it!.

I love being at the Chapel House. There is non of that awe inspiring must be on my best behavior sort of feeling I get in churches. It is a happy place, light, airy, and attractive. I particularly like how the new staircase goes right up to the round coloured window at the front, then turns back on itself for the last few steps.

Characterful, delightful property

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous week in this delightful converted chapel in the Ceiriog valley. We fell in love with the chapel from the moment we stepped inside, and it was an ideal base for walking and exploring the area.

The chapel is very well equipped, and the owner Hilary added some little personal touches that make you feel really at home. The village is very fortunate in having the Oak, a community run pub just down the road that did great food and was very welcoming.

Thank you for a very relaxing and enjoyable stay,

Sarah and Kevin

Great Chapel House

  • 4 of 5

We spend five days at the Capel House and we had a great time there. The house is well furnished and we felled ourselves at home. It was special to stay in a former chapel. We recieved a warm welkom regarding the flowers, prosecco in the fridge, sweets and apples on the table. We will recomend it to everyone!

Perfect little chapel

  • 5 of 5

Had a lovely long weekend here. The chapel is a great size for a couple and kids, located in the small village of Glyn Ceiriog. There's a Spar, the Oak pub which is an essential stop, a post office and various outdoor activities. Would also recommend trips to Llangollen and Port Meirion if you fancy a longer drive. Can't fault our stay, hope to visit again soon

Brilliant!!! Go!!

  • 5 of 5

The Chapel is perfect!

We were looking form a relaxing stay, not too far from home, with beautiful surroundings and a homely feel - we got that and more!

The log fire and roll top bath helped us unwind and the amount of books, board games, tourist info and maps ensured we had lots to choose from. We visited Llangollen, Chirk and the aqueduct.

The Chapel is very well equipped with everything you could need and nice little thoughtful touches.

Hillary was very accommodating, which makes a real difference, and we'd love to visit again!

Thank you!!!

Lovely find...

  • 4 of 5

Lovely holiday cottage...main room is huge and takes a bit of getting warm, but once it's warm it's spot on. Two good pubs in the village and a local Spar shop is minutes away...Would come again.

Beautiful chapel

  • 5 of 5

We wanted a short break in an unusual property where we could switch off and relax, and our stay at the chapel gave us everything we needed. It is beautiful and has been completed to a high standard and is fully equipped with every kitchen utensil, books, children's activities and information on local walks and attractions. We had car trouble and the owner was available to give us travel guidance and advice throughout our stay. If you want to stay in a relaxing property with beautiful surroundings away from it all then I recommend you go to this chapel. Totally relaxed. Thank you Mr and Mrs Moss Preston

Horse riding is available and popular in the area. Bikes can be hired locally, which is a nice idea as there are some lovely lanes to ride as well as along the canal paths. 100 yards down the road is The Oak, a really nice pub/restaurant. Llangollen has several lovely eating places, and Chirk's Hand Hotel does a very good Sunday dinner, as well as restaurant/bar meals on any day. 200 yards down the road is the local shop which sells almost anything, and small cafe. Opposite is the Post Office/Gift shop/Information office/Cafe. The owners make wonderful cakes & pies. There are excellent butchers and grocers in Chirk, Llangollen and Oswestry selling local produce, and a fish farm and farm shop on the way from Chirk to Glyn Ceiriog.
