About the property

Situated on the outskirts (within 10mins walking time) of the market town of La Chatre in Central France (Department 36), “La Maison Rose” is a uniquely styled one bedroomed cottage which sleeps two people. The elevated south facing sunroom which overlooks the garden and river is a lovely place to sit at any time of the day. The comfortable kitchen is very well equipped with a wood-burning stove, electric range cooker, microwave, toaster, kettle, iron and ironing board, and ample crockery and cutlery. Tea towels are provided. Upstairs there is a stylish bathroom with rolltop bath and a bedroom which overlooks open countryside.

Wi-Fi now available

The cottage is set in a large mature garden which is bordered by the River Indre and the garden is visited by a variety of wildlife, lizards, frogs, bats, butterflies, red squirrels, coypus and even pine or beech martens. One can see a variety of birds including stone chats, black caps, gold finches, green finches, woodpeckers both green and spotted, heron and heard for the first time this year (May 2011) the nightingale. The nightingales have returned every year to nest in the trees adjacent to the garden on the old railway banking.

Why The Owner chose Indre

We fell in love with this property the first time we saw it. Gardening is our passion and it's lovely to watch the wildlife in the garden and in and around the river.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage has a quirky interior and is completely open plan upstairs consisting of the bathroom and bedroom. The roll-top bath which overlooks the garden is deep and has a shower attachment.

The kitchen is well equipped and has a wood burning stove for the cooler months.

The garden room is a lovely space at any time of the day, giving excellent views of the garden and river.

The cottage is situated far enough off the beaten track on the edge of a town and within 5/10 minute walk to cafes, bars, restaurants and shops.

Supermarkets are only a short drive away.

Cozy Cottage

Quaint wee cottage in a well equipped town, plenty of places to eat and lots of places to visit ifyou like history. The house had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.

Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

Had a very relaxing holiday at La Maison Rose.

Had no plans for our holiday; just as well.

La Chatre is a nice town with markets, restaurants and a great Saturday market.

Large towns are a car journey away, so we just walked into town and enjoyed our stay.

There is no television, washing machine or dishwasher, but this was not a problem for myself and my partner.

The Wi-Fi was good so we could 'research' local places and send pictures to the kids, look wher we are!!!

Also, looked at the Chateau Sarzay; we visited and met the owner.

We cooked most nights, but there are some good restaurants in town, such as 'A La Table De Babeth'.

In general it was a relaxing and totally enjoyable holiday, in a great cottage, that we are recommending to our family and friends.

Characterful & quirky, with generous amount of space for two people in the house itself.

  • 5 of 5

We love the house, especially the big kitchen cum dining area,as well as the huge secluded garden with the river running alongside. The most interesting wild life came in the form of two naked young men who appeared from the river, and, like shy water creatures, rapidly disappeared. The house is quietly situated,on a lane leading to Le Chatre, which is a charming old town with friendly, courteous people, and decent restaurants & bars. It is within easy travelling distance of other interesting places to visit, among them Sarzay , Gargilesse Dampierre & Argenton sur Creuse. Really, our experience here was like a fantasy of the idyllic French retreat without any of the responsibility. So, the perfect place to holiday.

A Perfect Retreat

  • 5 of 5

La Maison Rose is a lovely cottage with beautiful views of the garden and river. It's an idyllic location but still only a short stroll into La Chatre which has all of the local amenities you need for an enjoyable stay with a good selection of bars, restaurants, patisseries etc.

The cottage is very well equipped, the raised garden room is a great place to spend time relaxing and observing the variety of visiting wildlife.

Thanks also to Colin and Marian for keeping in contact to make sure everything was okay.
