About Iona Hopkins

Our family moved to Heathers when our boys were young. We have loved our time at Heathers, it's a very spacious and comfortable family home which has been perfect for family gatherings. The garden is glorious.

We now live and work in Guernsey. We like to walk, sail, go to the beach and are busy renovating a Georgian townhouse in our free time.

Iona Hopkins purchased this house in 1997

Why Iona Hopkins chose Hindhead

You can see from our reviews that Heathers is a house that surprises people. We have four lovely reception rooms with a wood burner in the lounge which is super for the winter and we have a huge garden room attached to the house to enjoy family gatherings on sunny days. There is immediate access into a large patio fully furnished for eating out on sunny days. Every bedroom is lovely, no room is a compromise so all guests will be delighted. We are deep in an area of outstanding natural beauty and yet very close to major routes to London, Brighton, the coast, Windor and many other historical towns.

What makes this house unique

You will love the furnishings with silks and linens, Turkish and middle eastern handmade carpets. The very social layout of our kitchen lends itself to memorable family gatherings. We have a huge kitchen table which seats ten under a vaulted ceiling with skylight. We have a very comfortable lounge with Woodburning stove for those colder evenings and a huge TV with a smart box so that you can access all the digital channels and players. We have Bt fibre optic broadband which can be accessed from all rooms. There is a second TV and digi box in the snug with a DVD player. Relax watching films on our comfortable white leather sofas. A wonderfully comfortable and well appointed house for a family holiday.

  • 5 of 5

The whole house was beautifully furnished and the kitchen and laundry well equipped for our party of 10. The house and its garden setting is picturesque. We all gathered for a family wedding at Cain Manor. Unfortunately it rained quite a bit and we couldn’t explore the area as much as we wanted to. Altogether a very pleasant stay!

Lovely, elegant home! Perfect for holiday!

  • 5 of 5

Heathers was a beautiful home and was perfect for our holiday in the United Kingdom! It was exactly as pictured in the photos. Our family was able to stay with another family and there was the perfect amount of space for all of us to sleep. There were several separate rooms which allowed us to have a little space from one another as well. The kitchen had everything we needed and Iona left us a basket of goodies which was just icing on the cake. Heathers is close to a major motorway which allowed us easy access for day trips, while still feeling in the country. I would highly recommend this home to others looking for a home away from home vacation!

Owner's Response: Hi Lisa, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a lovely review. I am so happy that you enjoyed Heathers and found it to be such a great base for exploring the best of England. I agree, the house is deep in the Surrey countryside but with nearby major roads to get you quickly to London, the coast and major sight seeing locations like Brighton and Hampton Court. There are so many wonderful historic sights to see near by and lots of great pubs! Come again and please do recommend us to friends! Thank you, best wishes to you and the family. Iona

A wonderful place for an extended family Christmas.

  • 5 of 5

We desired a place to be that would feel special for Christmas. It would also need to be homely enough to accommodate an extended family including young children and a day visit from a dog.

Iona and Bonnie provided us with an immaculate 'handsome house' with space that our youngest loved to toddle in. There were so many reception rooms we were able to spread out and enjoy both quiet and fun communal activities. The log burning stove, plentiful candles and Christmas tree were the icing on the cake, so to speak.

The kitchen was the hub. It was perfect for making big family meals and the large table accommodated us perfectly.

The area is very wooded and the view of trees from the house is beautiful.

The garden itself is lovely.

We were not able to explore much of the area as we were needing to make regular visits to frail relatives who we wanted to see over Christmas. We did manage a brief visit to nearby Haslemere and had lunch out with other relatives at a hotel set in a lovely walking area.

On the final day the sun shone and we had a wonderful walk round the Devil's Punch Bowl, which is really close to the house.

Iona and Bonnie made us feel so welcome.

The house is very special and yet we felt trusted to make it our home for a little while. There is plenty of equipment in the kitchen and we didn't need to bring any of our own. As well as a generous welcome basket full of special foods, the kitchen contained many day to day ingredients needed for cooking. It was also really helpful having cleaning equipment provided.

In all these ways Iona and Bonnie made us feel cared for.

Thank you again for a very lovely Christmas! It will always be a wonderful memory.

A relaxed weekend with friends

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect house for a friends gathering away from the daily routines.

The house was superclean, cozy and felt like our own in few minutes.

The communication with Iona and Bonnie was easy, and they were very helpful.

Close to shops and the beautiful Devil's punch bowl.

Highly recommend a stay in this fantastic place.

Location

Heathers is located in the heart of Surrey, surrounded by thousands of acres of National Trust woodland and heathland which are ribboned with miles of walking paths, mountain bike trails and bridle ways. We have beautiful lakes nearby at 'Frensham Ponds' where you can picnic on a sandy beach or enjoy the cafes on the side of the ponds. Travel to one of our nearby Georgian towns and visit the coffee shops, restaurants and boutique shops. Spend a day at a historic house and garden, Petworth is truly stunning and only a short drive away.

Heathers is set in mature gardens and is very quiet indeed and yet to get on your way into a fast road to London, the South Coast, perhaps Brighton, is very easy as fast routes are available less than a mile away, travel to Stine Henge in a little iver an hour, to Windor castle, Hampton Court or Winchester cathedral in less than an hour.

Or simply relax in the garden or enjoy a meal with family and friends in Heathers gorgeous kitchen.

Walk out from the house to the Decils Punch bowl, enjoy watching the balloons flying over the valley at sunset, enjoy tea and cafe in the Punch Bowl cafe.

There are numerous excellent gastro pubs nearby.

A true countryside retreat and yet so easy to travel to see London, castles, historic towns and after an active day to return to Heathers to relax in beautiful surroundings.
