About Iona Hopkins

Our family moved to Heathers when our boys were young. We have loved our time at Heathers, it's a very spacious and comfortable family home which has been perfect for family gatherings. The garden is glorious.

Summer 2015 is the first summer that we are offering Heathers to visitors to stay for a short while. We now live and work in Guernsey. We like to walk, sail, go to the beach and are busy renovating a Georgian townhouse in our free time.

Iona Hopkins purchased this house in 1997

Why Iona Hopkins chose West Sussex

Heathers is a beautiful mid 20th century home. It offers four large and sumptuous reception rooms which are comfortably furnished with some brand new and some antique furniture. All the rooms are tastefully decorated. We have recently installed a super glass and oak staircase, oak doors and new carpets and curtains. There are four large double bedrooms each with a new or nearly new matress all with matress covers and new bedding. The fifth bedroom suite has a huge super king size amazingly comfortable bed, also with new bedding, goose feather duvet and pillows and a matress protector. There is ample storage in each room. The bedrooms all have lovely views of trees in the distance and the bedrooms to the rear enjoy a beautiful sunset.

Heathers is set in a beautiful mature garden with a pond with huge fish, lawns and a huge patio with benches, coffee table, huge dining table and chairs and a parasol.

If you should wish to venture from the house on foot you will find miles and miles of national trust paths through the golden valley and the spectacular and unmissable Devils Punch Bowl. Do stroll up to the National Trust cafe for tea and cake and enjoy the views. Under an hour away you can explore London, Brighton, Windor and under half an hour away the historic towns of Guildford, Winchester, Farnham, Peters field to name only a few. Travel to the south coast or to the West, perhaps take a day trip to Salisbury and Stone Henge. There are many National Trust and English Heritage Country houses and gardens to visit and don't forget the royal palaces, Hampton Court being the nearest. Visit the castles at Windsor, Arundel and Don't forget to sit and admire the beautiful Surrey and Sussex countryside from one of our numerous country pubs!

You will be spoilt for choice for eateries, we have so many pubs offering superb food just a few minutes away and restaurants can be found as near as a few hundred yards away or in Haslemere, Farnham or Guildford.

What makes this house unique

Heathers has been newly renovated so is immaculate, be one of the first to enjoy visiting this beautiful home and garden.

You will love the furnishings with silks and linens, Turkish handmade carpets and, newly fitted carpets and oak flooring. Our kitchen table is perfect for family gatherings, it seats ten under a vaulted ceiling with skylight. We have a very comfortable lounge with Woodburning stove for those colder evenings and a huge TV with a smart box so that you can access all the digital channels and players. We have Bt fibre optic broadband which can be accessed from all rooms. There is a second TV and digi box in the snug with a DVD player. Relax watching films on our comfortable white leather sofas. We also have a reading room and a huge 33 foot conservatory with a lovely outlook onto the garden.

A beautiful house for a weekend with family

  • 5 of 5

The house was very spacious.

No clocks.

Shingle drive difficult for cars as on a slope and not pleasant to walk on.

Beautiful and spacious

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a week’s family holiday at Heathers. We were a group of 6 adults and 4 children under 3. The house was very well equipped, to a high standard, spacious, very comfortable and scrupulously clean. The house is better than the pictures ! The 5 bedrooms were perfect for our group. There are 4 ground floor reception rooms, including a very spacious garden room which the children loved. The garden is large and private. Wifi was available and worked well.

The owner (Iona) was very easy to contact by email or phone. We had a slight problem on arrival and departure days and Iona solved it for us in an amicable and helpful manner. The welcome basket on arrival (with food and drink) was a thoughtful touch.

The local area was previously unknown to us but there is lots to see and do. The Devil’s Punchbowl, with amazing views and several walks, is a 10 minute walk from the house, close to a National Trust Café and a Pub. Frensham Big Pond and Frensham Little Pond are not far away and offer woodland walks and sandy beaches.

I can thoroughly recommend “Heathers” as a wonderful place to stay. Our family loved it and we will have treasured memories of our stay.

Lovely, comfortable, spacious, well equipped home with large garden and good outdoor dining area.

  • 5 of 5

We could find nothing to fault in this lovely home. It was very well equipped and scrupulously clean. The beds were very comfortable with very pleasant outlook from every room. We had very many enjoyable walks in the immediate vicinity of the house. We had a family get together and the house has a really good kitchen for a family meal along with four other ground floor rooms where children or older relatives can, if they wish, have some time on their own. I personally spent many happy hours in the large sun room which overlooks the garden. I would highly recommend this home away from home and will certainly book again next year for another get together with my extended family. We all thought the house was terrific.

perfect family holiday

  • 5 of 5

We are just returned from a lovely break in Heathers. The accommodation has been modernized and styled throughout to a very high standard whilst retaining a comfortable homely feel. The kitchen was very well equipped with an abundant supply of plates and utensils as well as saucepans, we made breakfast and dinner at ‘home’ everyday. The house is spacious and beautiful. We were not lucky in the first two days with weather, but the back patio is so beautiful which makes us feel as fresh as going outside. Location is excellent, too. On the third day we head to Portsmouth by only 50 minutes drive and the last day we went for hiking in Devil’s Punch Bowl where only being 10 minutes walk.

Hopkins are wonderful host. The time we arrived was quite late and dark so it made me difficult to find the key safe. The host on the phone was so patient to guide me.

My entire family- husband, parents and parents-in-law totally enjoy the stay in Heathers. We are willing to visit once again and would definitely recommend to everybody wanting a homely getaway.

Huge, spacious house in lovely area

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at Heathers for the weekend. Iona promised us we wouldnt be dissappointed and we werent. Looking to get out of london and enjoy some countryside, this was perfect. The house is huge and and the pictures really dont do it justice. Great for big groups. Iona was a great host... very easy to contact and she left out a welcome pack with honey and biscuts and lots of nice bits. The garden is also quite large and private. The local area is stunning. Highly recommend. We hope to go back again soon....

Great pub down the road also for lunch - fox and pelican.

Spacious, cozy and well equipped!

  • 5 of 5

Our large gang (x10 adults and x5 under 3's) stayed at Heathers over New Year and it was exactly what we needed! It was quick and easy to get to from London with the great outdoors also accessible. We were however unlucky with the weather so it was lucky the house was comfortable and warm. There was plenty of communal space, which allowed us to have separate kiddy and adult zones. We loved the log fire and relaxing the sitting room once all the little ones were in bed. We didn’t really use the conservatory area, but I can imagine during the warmer months this would be lovely, especially as there is a beautiful garden with lots of features to explore! The facilities were all great and the house was nicely decorated and super clean. I would definitely recommend Heathers as a place to stay and Iona was so helpful and quick to respond to emails. Thank you so much for having us!
