It is in Santa Teresa Gallura which is a small town in the north with a view of Corsica and an array of stunning beaches and inlets on 3 sides. Rena Bianca the local beach is idyllic. The town is small enough to be relaxed and friendly but has all the amenities you need. The Sardinians are intent on maintaining the very traditional Italian way of life with no high rise and strict control of developments near the coast.

Sardinia is a large island, 4.5 hrs drive from north to south with many distinct regions. Santa Teresa is the northerly most looking at the Corsican cliffs.It is at the western extent of the Costa Smeralda which is regarded as one of the most exclusive tourist areas in the Mediterranean. There are stringent controls on the extent and style of building projects with no high rise and only traditional architecture.

The weathered granite rock formations, such as Capo D'Orso (Bear Head) are unique.

In spring the climate is perfect and the whole place is a carpet of flowers interspersed with carefully placed 'Henry Moore' boulders. You can have sheltered inlets and beaches to yourself. Unbelievably, it only really gets busy in August and even then there are so many coves and large beaches that you can still find a secluded spot. Being in the centre of the Mediterranean It stays warm and largely sunny through to November. Sardinia is the home of organic produce supplying much of Italy and you can really taste the difference when buying from the local market. The wet lands and national parks have been conserved and extended and are home to many rare species including wild boar and eagles.

Santa Teresa Gallura is a small town in the north with a view of Corsica and an array of stunning beaches and inlets on 3 sides. The whole of the North coast is just jaw dropping. The island is renowned for scuba (the coral keeps the water surreally clear), trekking (several nature reserves), wind and kite surfing with a world renowned bay at Porto Pollo, and serious cycling. All these activities are catered for in the local area, town and marina.

Costa Smeralda, Porto Cervo, Maddalena archipeligo (Garibaldi museum) within easy driving distance. Mountainous cork growing region with atmospheric scenic drives nearby. Several important archaeological sites in the area, in particular the bronze age villages are fascinating.

Why Gordon Willis chose Olbia-Tempio

We went for a long weekend one Easter for our wedding anniversary and we seemed to have the most stunning scenery completely to ourselves (and that hasn't changed). The Sardinians were concerned about maintaining the unique character of the island so had put a 2 year moratorium on building to ensure policies were in place to prevent high rise or anything not in keeping. An agent showed us a few apartments and Stradivari was perfect. Turned out to be an expensive weekend.

What makes this apartment unique

The apartment is away from the town center near the marina which works well. The restaurant below adds interest and convenience and the view of the harbour and hills from the balcony makes breakfast a wonderful start to the day.

OK without going overboard!

Nicely positioned and well equipped apartment over a delightful pizzeria (not noisy), comes with access to a nearby swimming pool. It's not luxurious but does contain everything required. Downsides are: no shade on the balcony and no a/c in bedroom. The apartment is managed by a local couple whose charges are a little steep in my opinion (i.e 50 euros for very basic linen which smelt awful and had to be washed by us before use - 'though they did refund 20 euros as a result). The owner was very understanding and patient when my credit card company made a mistake causing problems with The HomeAway payment system.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review; we will check the problem with the linen service. The air conditioning unit is centrally placed in the apartment, near the bedroom door, and should keep the bedroom cool enough. The agent suggests the linen is rinsed with a softener that has a faint smell of coconuts, so they have asked this to be reviewed.

Summer 2016

Despite not arriving in Santa Teresa until after 11pm, we were met outside the appartment but the local agent, warmly welcomed and shown around. The appartment was very well located, with most things within walking distance - the bus station 2 minutes, the centre of the town 10 minutes, the local beach 15 minutes and the port where the swimming pool is located 10 minutes. The apprtment is located above the La Lampara Restaurant - a well priced restaurant with a good menu, including a take-away service - very useful, Whilst busy, it was always closed by 11.30pm so was not intrusive if you wanted an early night! The appartment was very clean and well equipped, with plenty of space - the washing machine was a real bonus! We enjoyed six nights exploring Santa Teresa and the surrounding area, a lot of it on foot, but we also rented a scooter for one day to venture further afield - lovely area and very friendly locals.

Lovely holiday

We had a really enjoyable week in Gordon's apartment in Santa Teresa. The descriptions on the website were accurate and we were warmly greeted by Emilia. The apartment was comfortable and well located in the town. Access to the swimming pool area was also easy and the pool itself was lovely. Santa Teresa is a good base to explore the northern coast of Sardinia which is really stunning. We loved the beaches - especially on the western side of the town. We took a day trip to Corsica - definitely worthwhile and spectacular.

Would recommend the apartment without hesitation and would love to return to the area again.

Bellissimo!

L'appartamento sopra il ristorante la Lampara è molto bello e funzionale, la sera è molto bello cenare e rilassarsi sul terrazzino da cui si vede il porto. La casa è luminosa e ha una doppia esposizione e spesso non serve aprire l'aria condizionata xkè anche se fa caldo passa una brezza che rinfresca. La cucina è dotata di molti arnesi quindi si può cucinare bene e c'è anche il forno. L'appartamento è nuovo e pulito e ci siamo trovati molto bene!

Dommage pour la vue de la terrasse

Appartement tres bien situé, charmante petite ville! Nous regrettons la vue de la terrasse (très petite et donnant sur la route) qui n est pas celle proposée sur la photo! En effet on a une toute petite vue sur le port! Dommage pour la climatisation qui est dans le salon, il fait donc chaud dans la chambre même en laissant la porte ouverte!!! Il faisait 40 degrés en journée aussi !Si vous bougez toute la journée et que l appart ne vous sert qu'à dormir alors n hésitez pas sinon il me paraît trop petit que pour y passer une journée entière ou même une demi journée !Dommage également pour les frais assez exorbitants même si prévenu a l avance!

Owner's Response: Nous montrons deux vues prises clairement depuis le balcon et décrire la vue dans la description. Nous avons aussi donner la taille de l'appartement et l'annoncer comme un appartement d'une chambre à coucher 2+2. C'était une vague de chaleur au pendant les vacances de cette famille et nous allons examiner comment nous pouvons améliorer l'efficacité de la climatisation. Nos prix sont dans la moyenne pour la région.

Estancia agradable

Cómodo apartamento en Santa Teresa. Tanto el dueño, Gordon, como Andrea, el encargado de entregarnos las llaves, muy amables. Está a un paseo de 5 minutos al pueblo y a unos 15 de la maravillosa playa Rena Bianca. El puertecito y la piscina a 5 minutos andando. La piscina pertenece a otro complejo muy cercano.

El apartamento es muy completo y cómodo. Tiene una pequeña terraza donde poder comer 4 personas. Cuenta con aire acondicionado en el salón y una cocina bien equipada. También tiene lavadora.

Como caracteristicas "negativas", se trata de una segunda planta sin ascensor ( si vas muy cargado es un poco incómodo ) y algunas noches se escuchaba bastante los ruidos propios del restaurante que hay debajo.

Pero por lo general hemos estado muy a gusto y repetiríamos sin ninguna duda.
