Overview

Property

Updated: 06-Dec-2016
Cove 2, luxury apartment with stunning views of Maenporth Beach. Sleeps 5

Cove 2 is a large apartment located above the Cove Bar and Restaurant opposite Maenporth Beach. It's the perfect choice of family accommodation for a beach-based holiday. Literally a few minutes from the bay, and 10 minutes from the bustling town of Falmouth where you'll find something of interest for everyone in your party. It's decorated throughout in neutral shades which reflect the light and makes the property feel spacious.

The apartment is all on one level and accessed via external steps at the far side of the property. Once inside you'll see the huge open-plan living and dining area. The walls, painted in a warm cream, are the perfect canvas for the property's original artwork and ceramics. There are two large, squashy sofas and a matching armchair, all made from suede the shade of linen - it's the ultimate in comfort after a long fun-filled day on the beach. You'll find plenty of books and family games to keep you entertained in the evenings. The dining area is close to the kitchen, and easily seats 5 guests or more, so you can even ask a friend along for lunch. The kitchen itself is fully equipped with just about everything you'd need for a family holiday. It's a great spot for creating delicious suppers, and there's plenty of work top space so everyone can chip in without feeling cramped.

The master bedroom has a king-size bed and plenty of storage space for your holiday clothes. It's got two Velux windows so you can drift off the sleep, watching the stars twinkle. There's an en-suite shower room, tiled in gleaming white and with a colourful border. This bedroom is on the front, so you'll wake up to the gentle sounds of the waves lapping on the shore. The second bedroom is also a double and the third has just a single bed - ideal if Grandma's coming to stay too. One adorable feature of these rooms are the teddy bears - yes, every bedroom has a teddy, individually dressed and just waiting for bedtime cuddles.

Outside, you'll see the large patio area, with table, chairs and uninterrupted views of the beach and Falmouth Bay. It really is a great spot - close enough to feel involved, yet tucked away from others if you just fancy a peaceful afternoon.

We'll have a luxury welcome hamper ready for your arrival - wine, Taylors filter coffee, Smugglers tea, Cornish biscuits and milk.

You'll have full use of the leisure facilities, free of charge.

Cove 1 has been awarded a 4 Star rating by Quality in Tourism. There is a returnable £100 deposit against damages on this property, and one designated car parking space.

Noisy, dirty and neglected, but great location!

  • 2 of 5

Property had not been cleaned, food on kitchen handles, grapes and clothes in bedroom drawers, childrens handprints on balcony doors. Microwave doesn't rotate, fridge door broken, bedroom door handle coming off. Sofa really dirty and damaged. You cannot call this luxury. PIR Lighting on stairs doesn't work, this is dangerous even for two able bodied adults. It's carefully not obvious that you are living directly above a busy restaurant business. The noise of them moving tables out to their beach area starts by 7.30 and goes on until almost midnight. This is what you will hear, not the waves. While you eat your breakfast, whatever they are cooking will visit you. Their generator is also very loud at the rear, lucky for us we slept in the front bedroom. The bed was clean and very comfortable and bathrooms clean and showers great. However, sheets for second week were dumped outside the door and it rained, so they got wet. Another set was delivered promptly. We had a voicemail that there would be an interruption to the power supply, but it gave the wrong day! They should be a lot more honest about where this property is. We expected neighbours, but not a busy business. If you sit on the balcony for that amazing view, all you can hear is the activity right below you and it feels a little voyeuristic looking down on diners. It certainly put us off dining there. That said, this could be a lovely property if it was cleaned and maintained. The leisure centre is spotless, sauna, jacuzzi and pool lovely. It's a great location for exploring, and Falmouth has all you could want close by. Overall, this gas been the most disappointing property we have ever rented.

Owner's Response: We are sorry that you didn’t have an enjoyable stay in the Cove 2 and disappointed that you didn’t contact us straight away to enable us to resolve the problems during your two-week stay. The Cove 2 property is advertised as being “ located above the Cove Bar and Restaurant opposite Maenporth Beach” we cannot say whether the restaurant is going to be busy or not. We do take your review seriously and will talk to housekeeping and pass on your comments to the estate management regarding the exterior lighting on the stairs.

Location

Activity and Interests

The Maenporth Estate is just two miles from Falmouth and overlooks the beautiful Maenporth Beach. It's a private complex with a coded entrance gate, making it safe and secure for all guests.

Set in 29 acres of natural woodland, with stunning views of the cove, it's a perfect base for family holidays. You'll find two all-weather tennis courts, a children's play area, and, of course, the Leisure Centre where we have our indoor, heated pool, sauna and Jacuzzi. There are pool and table tennis tables - all free of charge.

The famous award-winning Cove Restaurant is on site, or if you'd prefer something simple, try the Life's a Beach Cafe - you guessed it, on Maenporth beach, for fresh crab sandwiches or a Cornish clotted cream ice-cream. Two miles along the coast and you'll come across Helford Passage and the wonderful Ferryboat Inn which specialises in serving local seafood dishes. From here you can catch the foot ferry across to Helford Village, or hire a rowing boat or paddle board for the afternoon.

Maenporth's a sheltered cove with shallow waters, making it perfect for all kinds of family beach activities: the little ones will love paddling, splashing daddy, and clambering through rock pools. There's plenty of sand and piles of pebbles for sand castle building, and beautiful clear water for swimming.

Arvor Sea Kayaking offer guided kayaking trips throughout the year, and Cornwall Divers will take you on a scuba diving course from the beach! And, at low tide, you may spot the famous Scottish trawler, Ben Asdale, that was wrecked off the Maenporth coast on 30th December 1978.

The nearest town is Falmouth - the third largest natural harbour in the world - take a boat trip along the Carrick Waters to a smuggler's cottage, or hop on the ferry to St Mawes. Visit the Maritime Museum, great for children with its hands-on approach. Catch some the Grand Medieval Jousting at Pendennis Castle. Or simply sit with a cold glass of white wine and watch the boats glide by.

Whatever you choose to do, you'll be sure to unwind from the stresses of life, and simply relax...
