Delightful farmhouse, private gardens, tranquil village, close to all amenities

Updated: 30-Nov-2016
2 Bedroomed farmhouse with private gardens set in a quiet village.

La Fermette is a 2 bedroomed farmhouse set in a quiet village, yet close to all amenities. Bought by the current owners as a second home in 2007, it has been lovingly restored and is very well equipped. Built from local stone, it is beautifully cool in summer and boasts central heating for cooler months.

La Fermette is perfect for couples, families or those just looking to get away from it all.

La Fermette sleeps 4 in comfort (Bedroom 1: large double bed, Bedroom 2: 2 twins), but has the ability to sleep another couple in the spacious sitting room, (double bed screened off). The twin bedroom is also perfect as a games room and boasts a mini pool table and a DVD player.

The sitting room is a calm and cosy place to enjoy some peace or listen to music, and has a open fire for cooler evenings. There are 2 large, comfortable sofas and an armchair giving lots of space for everyone to relax.

There is a bathroom with bath and separate shower on the first floor, WC on the first floor and a further WC and shower on the ground floor.

The large kitchen/diner can be accessed directly from the garden and is very well equipped with fridge, freezer, electric oven and hob, dishwasher, toaster and coffee machine. The lovely wooden table seats 8 in comfort and there is a great wood burner (logs provided). This room is a great place for everyone to sit down together whilst enjoying the view out onto the terrace.

Next to the kitchen is a laundry room with washing machine, traditional large sinks and a shower, with separate W.C.

Throughout, La Fermette has been beautifully decorated and the kitchen renovation in particular is stunning, with large French doors leading out onto the terrace.

The sun-drenched terrace overlooks the gardens, which are a real attraction; secure and private yet with plenty of space to play and perfect for children and pet-lovers. As La Fermette was originally a farm, there are a number of barns with grassed courtyards leading off each other. One of these is a large covered "play barn", which is big enough to enjoy the table tennis, basket ball or football all year round.

There is a BBQ and large garden table & chairs on the terrace.

There is no satellite TV, but broadband WiFi is available.

About the Owner

We are Richard & Caroline WILLIAMS. We moved to Burgundy in 2009 and now run a successful property management business, Maison Jardin.

We look after a small number of properties, which we let on behalf of the owners, many of whom live abroad.

Previously we had both led the busy corporate life, but we came seeking a better quality of life. It's a beautiful part of the world here in Burgundy, and one that we are pleased to call home. We are well and truly settled and enjoy taking an active part in the local community.

A gem of a farmhouse in Burgundy

  • 5 of 5

We have travelled to Burgundy and stayed at this farmhouse with our 4 boys several times. It has been beautifully restored by the owners and has every comfort. Our kids particularly enjoyed the ‘play barn’ whilst we relaxed on the garden terrace. It is also a great spot to explore all the aspects of Burgundy life.

There are numerous towns & villages to explore, many with impressive medieval architecture. Burgundy, famous for its wine, food and the warmth of its welcome, is proud of its culture, offering wine fairs, gastronomic events and local festivals throughout the year. The region is relatively undiscovered; the quintessential image of rural France still exists with its beautiful scenery and quiet villages, but all this is interspersed with a range of activities, great local produce and superb restaurants. Nature is on your doorstep so you needn’t go far to explore the walking routes and cycle trails through the forests.

Within an easy hour's drive of Asnieres are Dijon, the vibrant and beautiful capital city of Burgundy; Flavigny-sur-Ozerain where the film ‘Chocolat’ was filmed and Semur-en-Auxois, a walled town with enchanting cobbled streets & excellent restaurants - a hit with children and adults alike. Other attractions include the Chatillon sue Seine museum with its famous bronze ‘vase de Vix’ which was found nearby and is around 2,500 years old; Chateauneuf-en-Auxois, a lovely flower-decked town with an impressive, mediaeval castle which just has to be visited; the Abbey de Fontenay, a superb Cistercian abbey & UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The museum and park of Alésia is just outside Venarey les Laumes. Here you can travel back in time to see history as it happens! The new Interpretation Centre and park immerses you completely in the conquest of Gaul by the Romans, Caesar and Vercingétorix pitted against one another. The Roman fortifications have been rebuilt to their actual height stretching along some one hundred metres and you can watch re-enactments during your visit showing you what daily life was really like in a Roman camp and inviting you to watch the legionaries in training

Two freshwater lakes are within easy reach, the closest is an impressive reservoir 50 mins drive away at Grosbois en Montagne which has a little café in summer and local forest walks. The larger at Lac d’Orient (nice sandy beach) with sailing dinghies and pedalos to hire, picnic tables, seaside cafes and bars is 90 mins to the north, on the outskirts of Troyes a beautiful medieval town. There is also a lovely swimming and fitness complex in Montbard, just 20 minutes away, which has a 25m pool, a children’s pool, a wave pool, an outside pool and a large slide for the kids.

And for wine lovers? You are minutes away from the heart of ‘Cremant de Bourgogne’ country. Said by many to rival some of the best champagnes, Cremant is made using the same processes and predominantly from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. Why not explore the ‘route du Cremant’, a new trail taking you through charming wine villages with the opportunity to see how and where the wine is made, then taste and buy the famous Cremant direct from the wine growers themselves.(details from the tourist office next door to the railway station in Montbard).

Slightly further afield, you are within an easy hour’s drive to Chablis to the West, with Beaune, Meursault and Pommard to the South. You are also ideally placed to explore the southern but most saturated part of the champagne region. Just 30 minutes’ drive North of Asnieres is the charming village of Les Riceys where you can visit at least 7 different champagne cellars, rent bikes to cycle through the wines on the Champagne trail and eat in the local bistro or restaurants within the town. Everything for a super day out.
