Gite for 2, Normandy/Brittany borders, Nr Avranches, Bay of Mont Saint Michel

Updated: 01-Oct-2016
Edge of village, countryside views, Pool, king-size beds, Wi-Fi, English owners

'Les Hirondelles' comprises 3 attached Gites and is situated in the Lower Normandy countryside of La Vallée de La Sée, and surrounded by lush green hills. Ideally located for exploring this historic region – including the D-Day Landing Beaches (tours can be arranged), Mont Saint Michel, Avranches, Villedieu-les-Poeles (the famous copper-making town), Granville, Domfront and Bayeux Tapestry and British War Cemetery.

Just over the border in Brittany, visit the beautiful port of Saint Malo with its ramparts, the medieval town of Dinan on the River Rance and Fougéres, which has the largest medieval fortress in Europe.

'Les Hirondelles' is easily accessed from three ports – Saint Malo, Cherbourg and Caen – but also consider Le Havre and Calais.

Your English hosts, Helen and Dave, live on site and so are readily available with advice and assistance when needed. We can also provide meals – a Salad on arrival, a Continental Breakfast served in our Dining Room each morning and a 4-Course Evening Meal twice a week.

The bed (or twin on request) will be made up with good quality cotton percale bed linen, towels are provided too. You will find a tray in the kitchen with tea, coffee and sugar, and milk and a bottle of wine to welcome you in the fridge.

This Gite (Gite 2) comprises a living area with comfortable seating, dining table and 4 chairs, woodburner, TV/DVD (English Freeview channels), Wi-Fi, small well-equipped corner kitchen with gas cooker and fridge. On first floor, one Bedroom with King-size bed and ensuite shower room. This Gite has an alcove in the bedroom which can accommodate 2 folding beds for 2 children. Outside, garden furniture.

Shared 10m x 5m swimming pool (June/September) and secluded sundeck. Chalet, leading to the Pool, accommodates a DVD library, books and games and provides a seating area for guests, local produce and information on places to visit.

Large communal garden area with BBQ, table and chairs, pergola.

Other things to do :

The area is great for walking and cycling with many marked trails and routes (we can provide maps) kayaking and rock-climbing in the Suisse Normand region, around an hour away, Horse-drawn carriage rides around the local countryside.

Nature lovers will enjoy the huge range of birds to be seen from the garden, including buzzards and herons, hunting birds.

There are many beautiful gardens to visit including the Parc du Chateau de Balleroy, nr Bayeux, the Parc Floral de Haute Bretagne nr Rennes, and the Jardin de Montmarin with its parkland reaching down to the shores of the River Rance, not far from Saint Malo.

Lots more ideas can be found on our website – see the link at the bottom of the page.

About the Owner

Before moving to France in 2005, Dave worked as a self-employed Builder and I as a Legal Executive in Conveyancing. We decided to try the 'good life' and have kept sheep, pigs, chickens, raised turkeys and continue to grow our own vegetables. We love the outdoor life and our favourite thing is to sit in the garden enjoying a glass of wine.

Wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

We went 4 days in Helen and David's gite. It was a wonderful stay for us. We went with our two years old girl who was very happy to see chickens, cows and sheeps. The place is very quiet. David and Helen are perfect hosts and very attentive with us. Their recommendations for visiting Normandy and Brittany are very good. We enjoyed breakfasts with fresh bread, croissants and homemade jam. Thank you David and Helen for these wonderful days. We really hope to be back

Peaceful and relaxing holiday at Les Hirondelles

  • 5 of 5

We recently enjoyed a very relaxing and quiet week at Les Hirondelles. The owners, Helen and Dave, made us feel very welcome and were friendly and very helpful. The breakfast, which was included in the package price, provided an excellent opportunity to get to know both Helen and Dave and our fellow holidaymakers. We will be enthusiastically recommending the property to our friends and relatives.

Quaint, traditional gite in quiet rural location.

  • 3 of 5

Set in charming rural surroundings we were very pleasantly surprised at the size of the gite which is comfortably furnished with most items you would need. Helen and Dave were very welcoming hosts and having the included breakfast every day meant you met fellow guests, who, when we stayed, were from Italy, Spain and France. We certainly enjoyed our few days at Les Hirondelles and would certainly return if we were in the area again. Tony & Ann - Jersey

From the Owner

We love the fact that we are in the countryside with lots of open space but still within walking distance of the village of Cuves, a five minute drive to Brécey with all the amenities we need, and still able to get to the Beach at Jullouville without getting stuck in traffic.
