Sparrow's Nest is less than 2 miles from the beaches at Dawlish and Dawlish Warren and the ferry to Exmouth. The views to the Haldon hills over open fields are lovely. The cottage is surrounded by farmland; your only neighbours are us.

Few areas can offer such beautiful and interesting places to visit within such a short distance.

The cottage has one double bedroom (dual aspect) and one twin (each bedroom with especially comfortable mattresses and bedding), a lounge (with TV and DVD player), dining room, kitchen (with cooker, washing machine, fridge with small freezer box, and microwave), bathroom (with a Mira electric over-bath shower), cloakroom and outhouse (for your buckets and spades and fishing nets!) N.B Rather steep stairs.

The pretty gardens at the side and back are enclosed and safe for children or a dog. There's a picnic table and ample off-road parking in front of the cottage.

The cottage is non-smoking and one small well-behaved dog is allowed by arrangement.

A travel cot can be made available.

Electricity is included.

Bedding, towels and tea-towels are provided.

Wi-fi is available.

We are 2 miles from Dawlish, 1.5 from Dawlish Warren, 1.5 from the Starcross ferry to Exmouth, and 9 miles from Exeter,

There are Railway stations at Dawlish, Dawlish Warren and Starcross and 1 minute away are bus stops for Dawlish or Exeter directions.

Within 0.5 mile there is a Sainsbury's supermarket and petrol station.

Sparrow's Nest is on a Devon County Wildlife Site. Cirl Bunting birds are special here but watch for badgers, foxes and occasional deer and other wildlife.

The south west coast path is close, as is the internationally important Dawlish Warren Nature Reserve and River Exe estuary.

There are boat trips from Dawlish and Exmouth, a ferry also from Teignmouth to Shaldon for it's quaint streets, small zoo and smugglers' tunnel to a secluded beach...

There are theatres in Dawlish, Teignmouth, Torquay and Exeter.

Come and stay and find your own wonderful places to visit and things to do, or just enjoy relaxing in the garden of Sparrow's Nest!

Lovely, quiet cottage with scenic views

We are very happy with our stay at Sparrows Nest. It is a lovely, cosy cottage with quiet surroundings and a lovely scenic view. The cottage was clean and tidy upon arrival, the owners were very welcoming and the property was spacious for a two bedroom cottage. The location was ideal, close to local shops, attractions and beaches. We enjoyed our week and would certainly consider booking Sparrows Nest in the future for a holiday.

Lovely, clean, very dog friendly

A lovely cottage with wonderful views. Awaiting us were home made scones, cream and strawberries. The cottage was clean and tidy and had everything we wanted. The garden was completely enclosed and also an enclosed field available so our dog could have a good run. Close to good pubs and plenty of walks. Barry and Carol were delightful hosts and I would recommend a stay at Sparrows Nest

Enjoyable stay

Had a lovely time at the Sparrow's nest - the positives far outweighed the very minor negative issues.

The property is relatively spacious and light inside. All the appliances worked and the house was in a good state of repair.

The rooms were tidy and comfortable.

The gardens were very well kept and there is the use of a very large secure field behind the house, which my children loved as they could play cricket and football.

Mr & Mrs Lockton were very welcoming, kind and helpful providing their home grown fruit and Cream teas on arrival.

The cold water pressure is a little low, but not unusable. The electric shower worked fine if you keep it in eco mode. Hot water is boosted by a pump. Wi-fi was intermittant and a little slow, possibly it may benefit from a repeater unit, the strongest signal seemed to be in the Kitchen. The 3G signal is weak, but there is a strong to medium 2G signal from 2 of the main networks.

There is a minor 40mph A road outside, which can be busy in the daytime but not too busy that you cannot pull out onto it safely.

At night, you can just about hear the occasional car, but it did not keep anyone awake at night.

However these issues are very minor and they did not bother us.

There are many attractions and beaches nearby that we were spoilt for choice. The children loved Paignton Zoo (free car park), the amusements / fun park at Dawlish Warren and Babbacombe model village. Parking charges in many of the town car parks (incl Exeter) are very reasonable. There is also a large supermarket within 5 minutes drive of the cottage. There are many Supermarkets in the Torbay area that have restaurants which are a fraction of the cost of restuarants in the main attractions and the food is just as good. There is so much to do in this area, 1 week is not enough time to see it all.

We hope to return again in the future.

Lovely cottage beautiful views from the back, clean plenty of room and very well equipped, nice personal touches like small vases of fresh flowers from the garden and a cream tea on arrival. Thank you Carol and Barry for a lovely holiday.

A Week Away in Devon

Our stay at the cottage was great and we had a very nice welcome from the owners. The jam and scones provided were delicious, milk and plums were very welcome.

The views and garden were excellent, also the wild life.

Carol and Barry provided a good service to us and the cottage was comfortable with everything needed for a good holiday.

Near Supermarket and places to visit. Bus stop near property and rail services in Starcross.

Enjoyed out stay and would go again.

Lovely location, perfect accomodation!!

Our last minute booking turned out to be amazing! My family and I stayed here for a few days and fell ini love with the lovely cottage, amazing views, wonderful hosts aand really didn't want to leave. Fantastic based to explore South Devon. Barry and Carol were so warm, welcoming and bursting with knowledge about places to go and things to see, next time we will have to stay longer. The scrumptious Devon cream tea was much appreciated after the long drive from London. We will definitely be back! Thanks again for your kindness and hospitality.
