200 Year Od Luxury Converted Chapel Looking Over Builth Castle And The River Wye

Overview

Property

Updated: 25-Nov-2016

Beautiful character cottage located in the heart of Mid Wales with everywhere in Wales accessible. . The beautiful market town of Builth Wells is home of the Royal Welsh Showground and is the perfect centre for any visit to the area boasting the wonderous river Wye meandering through it. The best place to stay in Builth is the 200 year old Dan-y-Castell, situated underneath the Castle Motte and a minute's level walk form the town centre and close to the Royal Welsh Showground and River Wye. A warm and comfortable stay is guaranteed. Dan-y-Castell holiday cottage is a totally refurbished 3 bedroom chapel, built, at least partially, from the remains of the old castle and combines stained glass windows, oak floors, stone arches and open fires with modern comfort such as full central heating. We are really proud of the cottage and know that you will love it too, because of the high quality, unique location and value of this beautiful cottage.

Easy flat walk to shops, pubs and restaurants yet peaceful and with views over the castle. Experience the best of all worlds!

About the Owner

Lorna and Adrian Foster own Bronwye, the premier Guest House in Builth Wells, which is located 500 yards away so we are alsways on hand to offer, help and advise. We previously ran a wonderful old pub for 10 years located 6 miles from Builth. We love the area, its friendly and beautiful and with lots to do.

Lovely cottage, cannot fault it

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful family xmas staying in the cottage, with three great days walking in the waterfalls & hills of the Brecon Beacons and playing games & cards in the evenings by the open fireplace. Our group consisted of 3 adults, 2 older teens & a medium sized dog and there was plenty of room. As the other reviews have already said, its a great home-from-home with all the facilities you'd need and the owners have thought of everything to make it a comfortable stay. If you are worried that it might be cold staying in a converted chapel over winter don't be, it was lovely and warm with both central heating and an open fire. Definitely recommended, but do be aware that if you are planning on walking in the Beacons that the drive takes longer than it looks on a map !

A beautifully decorated cosy cottage

  • 5 of 5

A lovely cottage just a couple of minutes away from the centre of Builth Wells and an easy walk to the show ground. It is immaculate inside and has all the home comforts - dishwasher, washing machine, central heating, an open fire and a fantastic power shower plus you can park your car right outside. Extremely comfortable and cosy, and there was even a bottle of wine and a Christmas tree with chocolate decorations to welcome us. The owners are just around the corner and were extremely friendly and helpful and we would definitely book again.

Nice warm retreat.

  • 4 of 5

Convenient for walking into town, close to the Cinema. Nice and warm once the boiler time-clock had been reset to GMT. Kept us dry while it rained almost constantly during our stay.

NB Door into the lounge needs lifting as we all had difficulty opening it with it dragging on the floor.

Fantastic cottage in Builth

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed here 3 times over the last 3 years.

The cottage is full of character and beautifully presented with some lovely touches like complimentary tea and coffee and biscuits and a bottle of wine on arrival. The owners are friendly and helpful and run a B+B in the town.

The garden is a little haven to enjoy a cup of tea or glass of wine and is suprisingly tranquil.

It is a short walk to the high street with a few nice shops, a couple of good cafes ( cafe cwtch was nice and the Curry house ) the are also several pubs, even a small cinema and a lovely walk through a park along the river

Within driving distance are many attractions , Hay on Wye , the Elan valley and plenty of lovely walking/rambling

I have already booked for next year and would recommend to friends

it's a shame that near the front of the property is an area of scruffily fenced waste land however I personally don't feel this diminishes our enjoyment of our stay and the back of the property backs onto an historic site that is worth a visit and has some lovely views from the top.

Looking forward to our next visit and sitting in the garden with a morning cup of tea listening to the birds singing and then tucking up In front of the open fire in the living room in the evenings.

Location

From the Owner

Dan-y-Castell offers the best of all worlds. It looks out over the castle motte and feels like you are in the countryside, yet with in a short walk there is a large selection of pubs, restaurants, cinema, theatre and shops. Builth Wells is beautiful with Britains favourite river, The Wye, meandering through it where otters, kingfishers and heron are often seen in the town itself! Builth is also the ideal place to discover the whole of Wales because of its central location and good road and rail connections (the heart of Wales railway is one of the most beautiful in Britain)
