About this property

Between olives and vines, near Cotignac

Mas Saint Antoine is situated between the picturesque village of Cotignac and the waterfalls of Sillans la Cascade. The house has a lovely pool and its own olive grove, and is secluded - yet only a three minute drive from the village with its restaurants, weekly market and boulangerie. Outdoors, there are large tree-shaded terraces for outdoor dining, with far reaching views across the Provencal vineyards and the hills beyond. Indoors, the old part of the house has retained traditional features such as terracotta floor tiles and log stoves, while the newer wing is light and airy. Downstairs, there is a well-equipped kitchen, a spacious dining room, a cosy sitting room, a spacious bathroom with shower and roll-top bath, plus an additional small shower room. Past the kitchen, you find a double bedroom on the mezzanine level and a double sofa bed downstairs in the new wing. In the original house, there are two upstairs bedrooms: one a large double bedroom with high ceilings and beautiful views, and one a twin room most suitable for children. Because of the way the bedrooms are laid out, the house is best suited to family groups.

Both the dining area and the downstairs mezzanine bedroom open straight onto the terraces, where there is a large dining table seating 8. The pool overlooks the long olive grove, and has a lovely gravelled area with loungers and deck chairs for soaking up the warm sun. An old mulberry tree provides the terraces plenty of natural shade, and the hammock slung between the cherry trees is the perfect place for an afternoon doze.

The local village of Cotignac is a 'Village de Caractère’ known for its stone cave dwellings in the cliff. Cotignac has a supermarket and three bakeries to choose from, as well as many good restaurants and a weekly market. Within a short drive are also the villages of Entrecasteaux, known for its imposing castle and Carcès, which has a pretty boating lake. The very lovely Abbaye du Thoronet, true jewel of Romanesque art is also nearby. Sainte-Croix lake and the beautiful Gorges du Verdon are only 45 minutes away. *Please note that house is set next to a country road, and the sound of passsing cars can sometimes disturb the peace and quiet of the valley.

Beautiful
We had an unforgettable and lovely week in this beautiful setting,10 minutes by car outside of Cotignac. The cosy home provided us with all we needed for a relaxing week by the pool: Great kitchen and bath, good beds, and lots of space for meals and games together - as well as quiet moments with a book. We travelled with two teenagers and wouldn‘t hesitate to book this place again if possible.

Our stay in Cotignac
The property was typically Provence, idyllic set alongside the vineyard and an ideal base for us to relax and to travel into the village, as well as explore the surrounding area. The traffic noise from the adjoining road can be a little intrusive.

A wonderful escape to Provence
Just back from 2 weeks spent at this great Villa. The location is stunning, surrounded by vineyards and olive trees, and the outside spaces are just wonderful - dining tables with natural shade from the mature trees meant that we could eat outside throughout our stay, the hammocks are great and we spent every evening sat in the deckchairs watching the sun go down over the vines. The house is next to a road, but it's set back and sunken so that you don't see the road and other than the sound of the odd car passing, it's tranquil and peaceful. A spacious house with a good kitchen and bathrooms. Marion provided great support throughout our stay, giving great suggestions for day trips. Having never been to Provence before, we were blown away by how beautiful the area was - we'll definitely be back to Mas St-Antoine....

Lovely house; slightly too far from Cotignac
We had a lovely time, but a few things let it down slightly: - It was a 25 minute walk into Cotignac which was a bit too far with kids. - The pool alarm went off on 3 separate nights. The water in the pool was too low apparently; this should not have occurred. It was terrifying on the first night to think a child may have fallen in the pool at 2.45am. - The outside lights were broken and new bulbs did not work. So a shame that we couldn't enjoy long evenings outside as the inside lamps we were advised to take out were not suitable. However, the house was lovely, the beds very comfy and generally well equipped.

We are an English-German couple currently living in Frankfurt with two young children. We work in international development, and have chosen the beautiful South of France as our family base for holidays and in between postings.

Why they chose this property

We have been looking for the right property for many years, but I think it was the view that drew us to Mas Saint Antoine! Between olives and vines, it really is beautiful whichever way you look. And, although it is in the midst of stunning scenery, the very friendly local community in Cotignac, and its lovely cafes and bakeries, are just a short drive away.

What makes this property unique

There are lovely country walks directly from the house, and great hiking in the surrounding hills. The waterfalls of Sillans la Cascade provide natural swimming pools. The hills and villages of the Haute Var retain their character and atmosphere all year round, and the sunny weather makes it perfect for exploring. Cotignac is particularly beautiful in the Spring, when the flowers are out in the hedgerows and fields. The beaches of the French Riveria are about an hour away.
