About the property

3 bedroom country house, sleeping 6(+2), with pool and beautiful views

Mas Saint Antoine is situated between the picturesque village of Cotignac and the waterfalls of Sillans la Cascade. The house has a lovely pool and its own olive grove, and is secluded - yet only a three minute drive from the village with its restaurants, weekly market and boulangerie. Outdoors, there are large tree-shaded terraces for outdoor dining, with far reaching views across the Provencal vineyards and the hills beyond. Indoors, the old part of the house has retained traditional features such as terracotta floor tiles and log stoves, while the newer wing is light and airy. Downstairs, there is a well-equipped kitchen, a spacious dining room, a cosy sitting room, and a modern bathroom with separate w.c. In the new wing, you find a double bedroom on the mezzanine level and a double sofa bed downstairs. In the main house, there are two upstairs bedrooms: one a large double bedroom with high ceilings and beautiful views, and one a twin room most suitable for children. Because of the way the bedrooms are laid out, the house is best suited to family groups. Mas Saint Antoine has been chosen as an Alastair Sawday special place to stay. More photos and information available on our website http://massaintantoine.net

Both the dining area and the downstairs mezzanine bedroom open straight onto the terraces, where there is a large dining table seating 8. The pool overlooks the long olive grove, and has a lovely decked area with loungers and deck chairs for soaking up the warm sun. An old mulberry tree provides the terraces plenty of natural shade, and the hammock slung between the cherry trees is the perfect place for an afternoon doze.

The local village of Cotignac is a 'Village de Caractère’ known for its stone cave dwellings in the cliff. Cotignac has a supermarket and three bakeries to choose from, as well as many good restaurants and a weekly market. Within a short drive are also the villages of Entrecasteaux, known for its imposing castle and Carcès, which has a pretty boating lake. The very lovely Abbaye du Thoronet, true jewel of Romanesque art is also nearby. Sainte-Croix lake and the beautiful Gorges du Verdon are only 45 minutes away.

About Katy and Tom Ansorg

We are an English-German couple currently living in Frankfurt with two young children. We work in international development, and have chosen the beautiful South of France as our family base for holidays and in between postings.

Why Katy and Tom Ansorg chose Brignoles region

We have been looking for the right property for many years, but I think it was the view that drew us to Mas Saint Antoine! Between olives and vines, it really is beautiful whichever way you look. And, although it is in the midst of stunning scenery, the very friendly local community in Cotignac, and its lovely cafes and bakeries, are just a short drive away.

What makes this house unique

There are lovely country walks directly from the house, and great hiking in the surrounding hills. The waterfalls of Sillans la Cascade provide natural swimming pools. The hills and villages of the Haute Var retain their character and atmosphere all year round, and the sunny weather makes it perfect for exploring. Cotignac is particularly beautiful in the Spring, when the flowers are out in the hedgerows and fields. The beaches of the French Riveria are about an hour away.

Nice relaxing stay

  • 5 of 5

Very traditional French farmhouse it was great sitting with a glass of wine/beer overlooking the vinyard opposite in the evening watching the sun go down!!

Outside it the sun shine was lovely but the house was fantastically cool during the days.

The local town had great places to eat although I'd advise booking a table during the day to make sure they have a place available for you.

The market was great and well worth the vist.

Very nice stay in a lovely area

  • 4 of 5

Mas St. Antoine was very much as we expected from the description and photos. The inside of the house was well laid out, pretty and practical. Although near the road, it had the advantage of being easily accessible and had a very nice outlook over a small vineyard. The house is simple but good value. Both the owners and the manager were always extremely helpful and quick to respond to requests or messages. The house is just a few minutes from the lovely village/small town of Cotignac with very good shops, restaurants and market. It is perfectly situated for exploring the the small and pretty villages, lakes and hills of the Var region, the Cote d'Azur, Aix-en-Provence, the Luberon and further afield if one wanted. All in all a simple but very nice place to stay.

Nice property just outside Cotignac

  • 5 of 5

We stayed 10 days in Mas Saint Antoine and enjoyed every day. The house is located just outside beautiful Cotignac with lots to do nearby (we went swimming, sailing, hiking, cycling). The house is nice and fully equipped.

It was nice sitting in the garden, having dinner under the trees and we enjoyed the view over the vineyards. The kids, of course, enjoyed jumping into the pool.

There is hardly any noise coming from the road which is nearby but invisible form house and garden.

Erholsame Tage zwischen Olivenbäumen und Weinreben

  • 5 of 5

Martha und Siegmar A.
