About the property

Middle Stone Farm holiday cottage in rural Somerset, sleeps 4, ground floor.

The cottage is a converted stable attached to our 300 year old Somerset farmhouse. It has been recently modernised and tastefully decorated using lots of vintage paintings and colourful cushions and curtains. The cottage has high beamed ceilings and a stone floor with rugs, there is central heating and a log burning stove. It has an open plan living room and kitchen with dishwasher, microwave, oven etc. There is a modern shower room in the middle of the property. Outside is an eating area with bbq and views over the farm. There is a laundry room with a washing machine for your use in the barn nearby.

Bed linen and towels are included. If you're heading to the beach please bring your own swimming towels. We provide a basket of logs for the fire, we sell them if you need more.

The property is strictly no smoking both in the cottage and outside on our farm.

Check in is from 4pm and check out by 10.00am on day of departure please.

We are very well placed for Exmoor, it is only a few miles up the road. The coast is 25 minutes away, Kilve is famous for fossil hunting and Blue Anchor is nice with a good cafe (The Driftwood). Dunster is a lovely historic village with a famous National Trust castle.

We also have a glamping site on our farm with three luxury safari tents and a wooden cabin, you can't see the tents from the cottage. There is a little playground on the farm and some mini ride on tractors for toddlers. We also have a farm shop which is open to our guests from March to October.

About Catherine Heard

Catherine and Patrick live in the farmhouse with their three lively young children. We also have a dog who spends most of her time outside, lots of chickens, geese, alpaca, sheep, goats and pigs. If you visit in the summer there are house martins nesting under the cottage roof and in the winter we have a barn owl. Whilst our guests enjoy their holiday we are busy working around the farm. There's usually some project going on here!

Catherine Heard purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Catherine Heard chose Somerset

We are surrounded by wildlife and deep in the West Somerset countryside. Exmoor also has stunning scenery to walk, cycle or drive through. This area of Somerset is relatively undiscovered so it's quieter on our roads than it is in some of the coastal areas of the South West. Taunton is only 25 minutes away if you need to go into a town.

What makes this cottage unique

If you're looking to escape the city and breath lots of fresh country air, this is hopefully the place for you!

In the summer holidays there are usually quite a lot of children around if you're coming with children who want to socialise!

Beautiful cottage!!

  • 5 of 5

My partner and I had a wonderful stay in this beautiful cottage!! Catherine the owner is a warm and friendly lady and all facilities were superb down to a very detailed info book on all aspects of the cottage and the area. We immediately felt at home and comfortable. What a very relaxing short break. Thank you!! We will definitely be returning next year - can't wait!! :-)

Comfortable cottage in beautiful area.

  • 5 of 5

Lovely cottage with lots of character on a small farm. Children loved the animals and play area. Owners friendly and welcoming; useful extras like small shop on site. There are lots of great days out in the surrounding area, but you do need to be prepared to drive a way to find them! Not much to do in the immediate vicinity. However, would definitely recommend.

Fantastic cottage in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a wonderful weeks stay at this fantastic cottage.

We have stayed in many cottages over the last 20 years and I have to say this is probably the best of the bunch.

A stunning cottage, super comfy beds, stunning bathroom, lovely kitchen and living room and fab views of the farm. We all loved visiting the animals.

A very warm welcome by Catherine and Patrick, very helpful and friendly.

We would highly recommend this cottage and would love to visit again in the future.

An excellent place for those seeking peaceful countryside break

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed at Middle Stone Farm cottage with my partner for 3 nights between 16th -19th of July. We have had one of the best countryside breaks at this lovely, cosy, comfortable and very quiet cottage, situated right next to the farm which is run by lovely and very friendly owners Catherine and Patrick. The owners are only there if you need them within a telephone call. You can buy local products directly from the farm if you run out of milk, free range eggs, water etc. Breakfast and dinner meals are also available, do ask on arrival for details. The cottage has a patio and bbq area with a spectacular view over the hills covered by farm's animals. Brilliant place to sit back, relax and enjoy the view having a bbq.

We will be certainly staying at Catherine's cottage again!

Thank you to you both for having us at your lovely farm.

See you soon xx

Wonderful farm stay

  • 5 of 5

Peaceful 4 night stay in lovely cottage surrounded by beautiful countryside. Many things to explore in the area, but it hardly gets better than sitting on the terrace watching the chicken, geese, goats and alpacas. Highly recommended!

Beautiful barn and location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 3 nights at the farm cottage and had a wonderful time! The cottage was well equipped and had everything we needed and more! Catherine also very kindly provided a highchair, travel cot and big box of toys for our 16 month old. We loved walking the lanes and visiting the animals. Catherine and Patrick were lovely hosts and we wouldn't hesitate to book again when visiting the area. Thank you!
