Overview

About the property

Middle Stone Farm holiday cottage in rural Somerset, sleeps 4, ground floor.

The holiday cottage at Middle Stone Farm has high beamed ceilings and a stone floor with rugs, there is central heating, hot water on demand and a log burning stove. The cottage is on ground level, useful for families or anyone with limited mobility. It has an open plan living room and kitchen with dishwasher, microwave, oven etc. There is a modern spacious shower room in the middle of the property. Outside is an eating area with table and chairs and bbq and views over the farm and grazing animals. There is a washing machine available for stays of one week or more.

Bed linen and towels are included. If you're heading to the beach please bring your own swimming towels. We provide a small basket of logs and kindling for the fire, we sell them if you need more (£5 for a bag of logs and kindling). Heating and electricity is included in your stay.

We are a no smoking farm, smoking is not allowed in the cottage or near any of our buildings. If you wish to smoke we politely ask that you go up the drive to do so please.

Check in is from 4pm and check out by 10.00am on day of departure please.

We are very well placed for Exmoor, it is only a few miles up the road. The coast is 25 minutes away, Kilve is famous for fossil hunting and Blue Anchor is nice with a good cafe (The Driftwood). Dunster is a lovely historic village with a famous National Trust castle.

We also have a glamping site on our farm with three luxury safari tents and a wooden cabin, you can't see the tents from the cottage. There is a little playground on the farm and some mini ride on tractors for toddlers. We also have a farm shop which is open to our guests from March to October.

WiFi is provided but it is not very fast as it's very rural here, fine for checking email, not for streaming things or webenar etc.

Brompton Ralph is our nearest village, 1 mile from our farm. It is a very rural community with a shop which opens for a few hours every morning and there are beautiful walks all around. You will find shops in Wiveliscombe which is a 8 minute drive from here, there are also pubs, a good butcher, a few takeaways etc. We really recommend Exmoor, there is so much to see and do there and it is 3 miles from here.

About Catherine Heard

We live at Middle Stone Farm and run a holiday business here. We have a glamping site (not visible from the cottage), there is also a cabin on our farm and little shop open during the warm months. We also have a dog Molly who spends most of her time outside, lots of chickens, geese, alpaca, sheep, goats and pigs. If you visit in the summer there are house martins nesting under the cottage roof and in the winter we have a barn owl. Whilst our guests enjoy their holiday we are busy working around the farm. There's usually some project going on here!

Catherine Heard purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Catherine Heard chose Somerset

We are surrounded by wildlife and deep in the West Somerset countryside. Exmoor also has stunning scenery to walk, cycle or drive through. This area of Somerset is relatively undiscovered so it's quieter on our roads than it is in some of the coastal areas of the South West. Taunton is only 25 minutes away if you need to go into a town. We are well placed for visiting Dunster Castle, the West Somerset Railway, the North Devon coast. The nearest beach is Kilve or Blue Anchor about 25 minutes from here.

What makes this cottage unique

If you're looking to escape the city and breath lots of fresh country air, this is hopefully the place for you!

In the summer holidays there are usually quite a lot of children around if you're coming with children who want to socialise! There is a little playground on the farm for small children.

The perfect family getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had such a magical time at Middle Stone Farm. Catherine and Patrick were the perfect hosts and the facilities on-site were brilliant. Our toddler had the time of his life feeding the goats, playing in the play field and generally roaming around. The honesty shop was a massive bonus and came in so handy, and the cottage we stayed in was perfectly appointed. The location was remote but well connected for plenty of local and further flung adventures - Tarr Steps and Dunster Castle both highly recommended. We'll definitely be back!

Beautiful scenery, friendly hosts

  • 5 of 5

The farm is located far from the maddening crowds. The cottage has everything you will ever need and there is even a farm shop if you are running out of something or want fresh croissants in the morning. We and especially our kids liked it.

My partner and I had a wonderful stay in this beautiful cottage!! Catherine the owner is a warm and friendly lady and all facilities were superb down to a very detailed info book on all aspects of the cottage and the area. We immediately felt at home and comfortable. What a very relaxing short break. Thank you!! We will definitely be returning next year - can't wait!! :-)

Comfortable cottage in beautiful area.

  • 5 of 5

Lovely cottage with lots of character on a small farm. Children loved the animals and play area. Owners friendly and welcoming; useful extras like small shop on site. There are lots of great days out in the surrounding area, but you do need to be prepared to drive a way to find them! Not much to do in the immediate vicinity. However, would definitely recommend.

Fantastic cottage in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a wonderful weeks stay at this fantastic cottage.

We have stayed in many cottages over the last 20 years and I have to say this is probably the best of the bunch.

A stunning cottage, super comfy beds, stunning bathroom, lovely kitchen and living room and fab views of the farm. We all loved visiting the animals.

A very warm welcome by Catherine and Patrick, very helpful and friendly.

We would highly recommend this cottage and would love to visit again in the future.

An excellent place for those seeking peaceful countryside break

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed at Middle Stone Farm cottage with my partner for 3 nights between 16th -19th of July. We have had one of the best countryside breaks at this lovely, cosy, comfortable and very quiet cottage, situated right next to the farm which is run by lovely and very friendly owners Catherine and Patrick. The owners are only there if you need them within a telephone call. You can buy local products directly from the farm if you run out of milk, free range eggs, water etc. Breakfast and dinner meals are also available, do ask on arrival for details. The cottage has a patio and bbq area with a spectacular view over the hills covered by farm's animals. Brilliant place to sit back, relax and enjoy the view having a bbq.

We will be certainly staying at Catherine's cottage again!

Thank you to you both for having us at your lovely farm.

See you soon xx

We are surrounded by wonderful green rolling hills and farmland. We are very rural although Wiveliscombe is 3 miles away for small shops. There are lovely walks and pubs with good food nearby. Exmoor National Park is 10 minutes away and the Quantock Hills are 15 minutes. Kilve on the north coast is great for fossil hunting and the North Devon coast is nearby. The West Somerset Historic steam railway is near here and very popular. Lovely Dunster Castle (National Trust) is 20 minutes drive towards Minehead and great for children. You can reach the south Devon beaches in under an hour.
