About the property

Spacious home, sleeps 6, in centre of working agricultural village. Shops there.

There is a warm Belford welcome for those who stay in our beautifully restored 17th century Georgian house. It is ideally situated in the center of the small Northumbrian village of Belford, directly opposite the market cross. The house offers many original features, including a 17th century coal burning fire place; and an inglenook recess in the kitchen. Stained glass windows are a feature throughout the house, as well as a rolled top Victorian bath. Sleeps 6, there are three bedrooms: one double en-suite, one double and one twin. There is another separate w/c. upstairs and bathroom.

There is also a large lounge upstairs, dressed with Peruvian furniture, an old style gas burning stove, and Digital freeview TV. and Video. Downstairs there is a tranquil sitting room with a log burning fire and old Georgian fire place. The kitchen is well equipped with a gas hob, electric oven, fridge freezer, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine. French doors lead from the kitchen into the garden, which has seated areas, grass lawn, wild flower beds and a barbecue at the rear. The garden is a great sun trap and private. The utility/breakfast room, behind the kitchen also has a door leading out to the garden. Gas central heating is throughout the house.

The Surrounding Area

North Northumberland is abundantly supplied with places of interest. Dotted along the unspoiled wild coastline are the castles of Warkworth, Dunstanburgh, Alnwick, Bamburgh and and the priory and castle of Holy island. The surrounding countryside is ideal for those who like the outdoor life. There are fantastic trails and walks: As well as amazing unspoiled beaches, one can find the nearby Cheviot hills and Hadrians wall. Belford lies 1 mile west off the A1 London to Edinburgh road, and is approx 15 miles south of the Scottish Borders and 3 miles in from the coast.

Services in the village include 1 Grocery shops ( open until 10 p.m.), Post office, Newsagent, 3 Public houses (good bar meals and Sunday lunches), Golfing range, Car parking in the village square opposite the house, Doctors Surgery.

The house is spacious and has a private back garden. There are two sitting rooms so one can escape to a quieter room if need be to read or just sit by a coal/ log fire.

Situated in the centre of a small village. 1 minute from small shops (newsagent! grocery shop, post office) and local pub.

Good location for trips to Edinburgh the Cheviot Hills, Kielder Forest, Hadrians wall and the stunning Northumbrian coast and castles.

We are both admirers of old houses, and we loved the period features, particularly the stained glass/leaded windows, the shutters on the windows, the original fireplaces, sash windows and the stand-alone bath. The upper drawing room, with Peruvian furniture was stunning, with lovely views to the old square. Also, the private garden at the rear was a delight to sit in.

Very eclectic, I really loved how different it was to anywhere I had stayed before.

The property was very well situated. It was close to the beautiful Northumbrian beaches and to the hills if you enjoy walking. There is so much to do in this are that. in only one week we did not even scratch the surface.

Period Property with a twist

We enjoyed our stay very much, the property is near a number of attractions such as Lindisfarne and Bamburgh. We had a great day in Berwick which is an interesting pretty town with a great micro brewery bar. The house itself was quirky and interesting with lots of ethnic influences married with a period interior. The property was very clean and cared for, the city style garden would be a brilliant place to sit out in the summer.The only downside was the outside of the building as it was difficult to identify the front door, and the state of the front window put us off a bit, but all was delightful on the inside of the property.
