About the property

Big rooms, 5 beds, 3 bathrooms, mountain views with lovely pool. Shops nearby.

Villa Pembroke is spacious, beautifully designed and well constructed in 2003. It features marble floors; a superb mosaic pool (8m x 4m) and baby pool for youngsters' safety; and a traditional kusk for relaxing in the garden. The property is in a superb position with great views of the mountains, easy access to local shops and the bus, and a very high level of privacy. There is plenty of space for 11 visitors in 5 bedrooms. The villa has a dedicated English manager. We can do as much or as little as you need. Many visitors have us arrange their transfers from Dalaman airport, but we can organise car hire, maid service, a chef, activities such as paragliding, boat trips etc. Everything to make your holiday all you want it to be.

Spring, including June, and autumn are beautiful seasons in Turkey and we offer the villa at very reasonable rates in these seasons, plus additional discounts for smaller parties which makes Villa Pembroke no more expensive than smaller properties.

The area: Fethiye is an attractive town with a magnificent harbour, a huge selection of boat trips going to islands and remote beaches, a wonderful market, excellent inexpensive restaurants. It's 15 minutes on the bus. Olu Deniz is a similar bus ride, but in the other direction. here you find the most fantastic beach... The Sunday Times says "It's hard not to love Olu Deniz - the bone-white spit and turquoise lagoon is a Turkish holiday icon... Best way to visit? Stay on the hillside with the pine forests nearby, and take the bus down to Oludeniz." The holiday village of Hisaranou is on the way to Olu Deniz. It has the best night life in the whole area, is safe and friendly, and about a 20 minute walk from the villa.

The Villa: is built on two main floors with two bedrooms and a bathroom on the third. High ceilings on ground and first floor and good insulation provide a cool atmosphere, supported by air-con units, and there’s another in the top floor. The ground floor, veranda and pool are all on the same level, and steps lead to the front door. The open plan living area on the ground floor is divided into sitting and dining areas. The huge covered veranda provides an outdoor room for everyone. Two tables seat up to 12. The barbecue is integral, with its own chimney. The veranda has a marble floor and the area around the pool is non-slip travertine stone. The kitchen is well equipped. The first floor has three principle bedrooms, all with superb king size beds and air con, a separate bathroom and one en suite. The second floor has two further bedrooms, one with air con, and a bathroom.

Outside the villa: There's a stone wall going right around the plot enclosing the villa and garden, which is planted with bougainvillea and hibiscus, fig and lemon trees, looked after by the gardener Bayram who also maintains the pool.

Pricing Policy: I have a 'John Lewis' pricing policy and will match the rates for a comparable villa on ownersdirect.co.uk - just forward the competitive quote. An important tip for holidaymakers: don't book on-line without contacting the owner first. Scams may be rare, but happen every season to people who eagerly book properties with bargain prices. I am happy to give you contact details of people who have stayed here and other information, as I want you to be 100% confident of your holiday in Turkey!

The villa is closed during the winter and Bayram who looks after the pool does repairs and maintenance. This winter he is tackling the trees. The fig tree is enormous and the almonds are out of control as well. We spend time on the marble floors as well. In the spring he will scrub the pool walls and re-grout where necessary before filling with fresh water, delivered by lorry from a deep artesian well. The weather changes in March. I've been there at the start of the month and it has been cold, but move into April and the days are like an English summer. The flowers at this time are remarkable - wild hollyhocks are spectacular, and I collect some seeds in September to scatter in the garden and also bring back home. Tourists are am important part of the local economy, and the Turks like our English guests. The scene in Fethiye is always magnificent and when having a meal in one of the quayside restaurants I have to remind myself it's not San Tropez! Best wishes, Mike

The Times reports that holiday bookings at the end of Feb to Turkey are 80% higher than last year. Not surprising news as our bookings came in late, while this year we are having to tell the family to decide their dates before the last minute! Thomas Cook and TUI are adding flights.

I set off for a trip to the villa after a very busy year. All was as good as ever. We had a great time, it really got me away from my publishing business. Fethiye was as busy and vibrant as ever.

I obviously looked out for issues or problems caused by the politics in the area but there was nothing obvious.

Meanwhile the villa retained it’s magic and was, as always, beautifully prepared for our visit, as it is for all who stay. The pool was crystal clear, there were lemons on the tree, almonds are going to be prolific this year, and everything was in order. It’s thanks to a first class manager, together with some excellent people.

Once again the Fethiye market had me standing mesmerised, the sea at Olu Deniz was beautiful and the welcome in every shop and restaurant was superb, while their prices given the exchange rate of 4.5TL - £ (it was 1.7 when the villa was being built) makes everything very affordable.

Luxury marble floored villa, superb pool, top Ovacik location, excellent reviews

About Mike Donovan

I am founder and editor of Practical Farm Ideas magazine www.farmideas.co.uk and have a busy schedule. My four grown-up children and their families enjoy their holidays in Turkey, and this is a place where I can really get away from work.

Mike Donovan purchased this villa in 2003

Why Mike Donovan chose Ölüdeniz

Villa Pembroke is my only property in Turkey, and was built after a series of wonderful holidays in the area. We have consistently found the people we deal with to be honest and with a great sense of humour, and have made some life-long friends among those involved in the project and who we have met over the years. Turkey is relaxed and generous, helpful and very kind to foreigners.

We built the villa to have really relaxing holidays, in a place where we knew the places we liked. Hotels offer so little privacy, have bustling queues of people coming and going, leave you standing and waiting, and then find the room is noisy, or the fan seems on half the night.

As editor and publisher of a national farming magazine I have a busy work life and when on holiday appreciate the time to relax, yet still stay in contact with the excellent dongle which is permanently in the villa. It really does mean I can do some work by the pool. While some people are able, and prefer to drop all their work when on holiday, this approach just gets me more worried about what is going on and what I should be doing!

Guests who rent the villa do so directly through me, and the manager we have in Ovacik. You'll find that there's a lot of information about where to go on your holiday, and what to see - and there's plenty of both. Whether it is ancient ruins, of which there are many sites, days out on the sea island hopping, doing the markets or hiking in the mountains, there are guides and help from our manager.

We have been delighted with the villa, as have our visitors. I would like to invite you to become one of them.

What makes this villa unique

The driver opens the door and you step into peace. You open the patio door and put a toe into the pool. You may have your first swim there and then, or decide to open the welcome pack you ordered. Glasses get filled, bedrooms explored. You take a turn around the garden, and try out the cusk that spells outdoor relaxation.

You soon realise the villa is in a brilliant location. The villa feels raised above those in front so you really don't notice them. You get the breeze coming up from the sea at Olu Deniz, 4 km away. The villas around are all different, face in different directions, and the neighbours are english speaking turkish people, who in fact own a hotel in Olu.

Villa Pembroke is far enough away from the Hisaranou clubs and hotels to deaden their sound so you can get an early night, but walk less than 2 miles and you're joining in.

Visitors always comment on the marble floor and stairs when entering the villa, but the villa provides an out-of-doors holiday, with the new cusk, the pool and veranda with bbq. This is what a private villa is all about - relaxation and fun without being over-looked and sharing the space with others. You'll love the decorations, the fabulous Turkish curtaining and quality furniture, and the large bathrooms and showers - Villa Pembroke gets compliments from all visitor

The Turkish Aegean Coast region

From ancient ports to stunning beaches, this region is perfect for exploring the ancient wonders and natural beauty of Turkey. Some of the more spectacular sights include:

Oludeniz: This spectacular beach is one of the most photographed in Turkey, has clear waters, and is a protected site of outstanding natural beauty. We've never found it crowded, even in the height of the season. The facilities, be it the beach, the woods, restaurants, or whatever, are just far larger than the number of people using them. So you walk into any restaurant and there's a table, go for car hire, and one is waiting, decide to go for a day's boat trip (£10 which includes lunch), and you'll often find the boat half full.

Tlos: 30 Km south of Fethiye is the oldest city in the Lycian region. Home to the Lycian hero Bellerophon this area is rich with history, visitors can enjoy: the remains of a castle, the agora, the necropolis, the theatre, Roman baths and a good view of Esen Valley.

Xanthos: Xanthos is the ancient capital city of Lycia. This spectacular site is bursting with ancient history and mythology, attractions include: The ancient theatre, Tomb of the Harpies, Nereid Monument, among a mixture of ruins from Lycian, Roman and Byzantine times.

"Turkey houses more Roman sites than Italy and more Greek ruins than Greece"

The village of Ovacik is dominated by the 6,000ft mountain of Babadag. The mountains are criss-crossed with paths and dirt roads, and make lovely walking. Motor bikes, jeeps and quads can be hired, but again, you won't see many others out.

Ovacik and Hisaronu are popular with British Holiday makers. People are friendly and have a good grasp of English. Hisaronu has many lively shops bars and restaurants to enjoy but they will not disturb you in the villa. Why not take a trip to the deserted ancient village of Kayakoy, or any of the stunning bays and coves nearby.

The area has many skilled craftsmen, especially jewellers and leather workers, also of course carpets and textiles. You can get old jewellery re-made, the stones re-set, all on the premises, or made to measure leather coats and jackets, to your design, at a fraction of the UK cost.

A new Water Park is within walking distance, there are bikes in the villa for visitors' use, horse riding and micro lights are close. Most activity providers will collect from close to the villa.

The nearby town of Fethiye is very popular due to its outstanding beauty and busy marina. There are numerous high quality restaurants and bars run by friendly locals - £5-8 gets you a fresh bass or bream at a table on the water's edge. Presiding over Fethiye is an ancient fortress built by the knights of Rhodes. Carved into the surrounding cliff faces, by Lycians, are spectacular rock tombs.

This area has so much to see and do. You can paraglide in Oludeniz or take a boat trip, take a jeep safari (rent from our villa managers at favourable rates) or visit any of the numerous ancient ruins.

Fethiye is a bustling market town, with a famous bazaar every Tuesday. It's a good place to buy Turkish carpets. The harbour has many boats, and it's easy to hire one for the day to take you to the many islands close by. Fethiye has a Roman amphitheatre, fascinating rock tombs and plenty of history. It's a good centre for most things, with friendly and helpful people. There's a substantial English community, which means you'll find an English speaking doctor, dentist (they're said to be very good), and English spoken in the hospital.
