The third is a 1 bedroom Gite set across the courtyard with hot tub. Whilst offering modern facilities, open plan living, dining and kitchen space, we have retained some of the quirky charm of old french properties. Each Gite has french doors leading to it's own patio furnished with facilities for outside dining. The modern insulation coupled with traditional building techniques keeps these Gite cool in summer and warm in winter. The walnut grove offers plenty of shade and space for games or relaxing in, whilst the sun terrace around the 6m x13m solar heated salt pool is a perfect place for unwinding and watching the eagles soar on the therms.

About Tom and Rachel

This is our new retirement adventure! We fell in love with the walnut farm and live in the farmhouse. So different from teaching!

The new Gites with magnificent swimming pool, spa hot tub, tranquil grounds and blissful views are our way of sharing a small slice of this haven. Le Limans is a tiny hamlet but the folk around us have made us so welcome and part of the community.

Tom and Rachel purchased this farmhouse in 2013

Why Tom and Rachel chose Festalemps

Le Limans is a perfect place for unwinding and recharging your batteries. Set on a hill we get those wonderful warm french days and stunning views. These new Gites are great for families, groups or couples. It is a great base for sight seeing in the Dordogne with Perigueux, Brantome and Bergerac about an hour away. Not to mention some lovely french villages linger over lunch.

Walking and cycling are wonderful ways to appreciate some of the stunning scenery in the Perigord Vert and we can arrange cycle hire, with all the relevant safety equipment if you wish.

Set in the Dronne valley there are plenty of opportunities for water based activities, such as canoeing and of course lazing on the river beaches, by the lake at La Jemaye or horse riding through the rolling hills. Aubeterre, with it's stunning underground Cathedral, buzzing square and winding alleyways and river beach is about 15 minutes away.

At the end of June and beginning of July the Cognac music festival is said to be one of the best blues festivals and not to be missed. Not to mention an opportunity to both see and sample the local tipple!

In August, the nearby village of Epeluche holds La Fete Nautique. Amazing creations float down the river! Watch the extravaganza, enjoy the food stalls and stay on for the music and fire works.

For car buffs The Circuit International des Remparts D'Angouleme is held in September.

What makes this farmhouse unique

So much or so little to do. Relax and unwind in this tranquil spot, venture off for a range of activities or do a combination. The 6m x13m solar heated salt water pool is a fabulous place to relax in after a hard day on holiday! For those of you choosing to stay in L'Ermitage there is the added benefit of a spa hot tub on the patio.

Soak up the last rays of the sun on your own patio, watching the birds soaring, or star gaze as the night turns on it's show!

Whatever you choose we are sure you'll enjoy being here as much as we do.

Outstanding in every way!

  • 5 of 5

Another incredible stay with the most amazing hosts in Tom and Rachel. Great location with the most wonderful views. Tom and Rachel are so welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. The kids loved every minute especially the pool and wonderful grounds. They really felt at home here. The Gites really have everything you can wish for and we cannot wait to return in the very near future. Truly outstanding in every way!

We had a fantastic time at Le Limans and as the 5 stars show, we'd highly recommend!

  • 5 of 5

From the start of the booking process right through to the moment we checked out. Tom and Rachel could not have been more helpful.

They have refurbished the gites to a very high standard and have kitted them out with all of the essentials you'd need.

The outdoor space is beautiful and particularly so with younger children. Ours loved exploring in a safe and exciting environment which included frog and lizard sporting with some holiday pals staying next door. They were given free reign around the veg and fruit patch (leaving Rachel with only a small handful of yellow raspberries!). The swimming pool is fanastic too.

We'd really recommend the gites as a family of four or with friends too.

Relaxing Family getaway in the Dordogne

  • 5 of 5

I rented Le Pic Noir for a week in August'16 with my wife and 2 young daughters.

We had a fantastic time. The surrounding countryside and villages are beautiful and full of interesting activities (e.g kayaking, farmer markets, historical monuments, good restaurants).

Le Pic Noir has been recently decorated to a high standard, the large salt water pool shared among 3 gites is a highlight.

The owners Tom and Rachel live onsite and are attentive and willing to help with suggestions of what to do. I have rated this as 5 star.

Outstandingly beautiful, peaceful properties perfect for experiencing the French lifestyle!

  • 5 of 5

Having visited Le Limans Gites for the first time we have been blown away by the stunning renovations carried out by the exceptional hosts Tom & Rachel. The Gites are extremely well equipped with everything you could possibly need for a very comfortable stay and the outside pool area is amazing, it was a struggle to tear the children away from it to go and explore the beautiful surrounding areas. The nearby typical French villages with river & lake beaches are totally awe inspiring with their narrow cobbled lanes, cafe lined market squares and medieval churches are well worth exploring.

Tom and Rachel are truly great hosts, they really made us feel very welcome and went above and beyond the call of duty to give us all an amazing, unforgettable holiday, we can't wait until we go back again!

Perfect combination for family holiday

  • 5 of 5

The site photo's look nice, but they do not do justice to the overall views and accommodation.

Our family of 15 combined the Le Limans Gites as a holiday base for our son’s wedding at one of the local Chateaux’s. The bedrooms and toilets were all clean and comfortable and fitted with our family requirements. With so many members, we had to use all the facilities for cooking, including the BBQ. The kitchens were fully equipped as expected, including a dish washer which came in handy with so many meals.

As this was a family holiday, filled with sporting members, we made very good use of the ideal sized pool. Water polo, water volleyball, races etc, and when not being energetic the sun lounges provided a comfortable place to relax. The large grass area was also used, especially will a small child to run about. As you sit around the pool and the patio area, you have wonderful views over the small valley; you’ll find yourself just staring over the fields. We were lucky to see a multiple of birds ( Woodpecker, Red Kite, Barn Owl, Jay) and in a morning the swallow’s fly around dipping to the pool to take a drink.

We also had advice and guidance from Tom and Rachel for the best places to see and visit locally. Most of our trips were into Riberac (main town) 20 minutes by car – They have 4 big supermarket’s which we used to stocked up with supplies, but a visit to the next village of St. Privat de Prez to get freshly made bread is a must. We also had a few meals in Riberac and visited some of the bars. Check with Tom and Rachel as most places have things going on during the week . ie Markets, live music etc.

Another amazing experience

  • 5 of 5

Another amazing visit and really didn't want to leave. This was our 2nd visit and it really does get better. Tom and Rachell were wonderful hosts (again) and the accommodation was as wonderful as our last visit. They have added a swing ball, badminton and table tennis in the lovely grounds to occupy the kids (and the adults). It really is the perfect base to either relax around the pool or explore the wonderful surrounding area which has so much to offer. Thank you once again. I am already planning our next visit.

A superb location for a wide range of activities. Riberac is a bustling market town with a fabulous Friday market. Also nearby is Chalais also offers a range of activities and a Monday market. Set in the Perigord Vert there are plenty of cycle tracks and countryside walks offering fabulous views at every turn. The river beaches in Aubeterre and Saint Aulaye offer a range of river based activities, with plenty of amenities. Aubeterre has a wonderful square and a fabulous opportunity to visit the underground Cathedral. On the edge of Bordeaux and the Bergerac wine region there are a number of vineyards to try out a tasting at and St Emilion is an hour away by car.
