Overview

About the property

Garden cottage is located on the small Rhiewport estate near the picturesque village of Berriew in the pretty Montgomeryshire countryside. It is a detached single storey conversion of old workers cottages situated on the South side of the estate's walled garden. Peaceful and private, this cottage offers a quiet country getaway, yet within easy reach of local towns and villages.

The cottage is warm and cosy with a large LCD TV and full internet access. There is a garden with patio and exclusive access to the one and a half acre Georgian walled garden, where children and dogs can play and run free.

Around the cottage is an abundance of wildlife including hares, pheasants, red kites, buzzards and the rare red poll. At dusk a barn owl can often be seen flying around the walled garden.

There are many things to see and do, with the stunning Welsh mountains to the West and historic towns such as Chester and Shrewsbury nearby. The famous Powis castle and gardens are 5 miles away with other historic houses such as Erddig, Attingham Park and Chirk Castle all within easy reach. Berriew has a delightful tearoom and deli, a general store, a butchers and two public houses. Welshpool 5 miles away offers a more comprehensive range of faciliies, including shops, swimming pool, golf course and a choice of restaurants.

For the walkers the area offers several famous footpaths including Glyndwrs Way, Offas Dyke Path and the Longmynd Mountain. The Montgomeryshire canal which runs through the village is ideal for walking and cycling.

Bed linen and towels are provided, together with unlimited heating and hot water. A large flat screen television with Freeview, DVD player and WIFI internet access are included. The cottage comprises a kitchen diner with dishwasher, large sitting room with french doors to the patio area and garden, a traditional bathroom, twin bedroom and double bedroom with feature fireplace and views of the walled garden. A travel cot and high chair are available if required..

About Helen Parker

Rhiewport Hall is a Georgian house with extensive barns, coach houses and stables. Having been neglected for thirty years by the previous owner we are now in the process of fully restoring the property. We bought the property four years ago and initially lived in Garden Cottage while we started the restoration of the main house. It was a lovely place to live and we hope that our guests enjoy it as much as we did.

This place is lovely, so peaceful and quiet. The cottage has ample room for a 4 person family and the outside area is simply beautiful. We loved it and are looking forward to returning!

Peaceful, well equipped cottage in a beautiful area

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was in a lovely quiet location. It was well equipped and clean. Helen was very welcoming. We enjoyed breakfast and dinner sat out in the private garden. It was a great base for scenic walks around the area (although footpaths signs are a bit hit and miss!). There were several nice places to eat close by and Berriew was worth a visit.

Would definitely recommend this cottage.
