Olhos D'Agua is on the central Algarve, backdropped by the region's signature sandstone cliffs. It's an easygoing fishing village where you'll see fishermen hauling in their catch ready to be barbecued at the friendly restaurants later that night. There are lots of eating places and bars along the main street that runs down the hill to the waterfront – where you'll find a lovely little beach.

Albufeira is located 40 km west of Faro and 50 km east of Lagos.

Albufeira was once a small fishing port and has become the most popular tourist resort in the area. The city still retains some of its character and its Moorish heritage, with pretty streets lined with whitewashed houses, the ruins of the fortress and a high cliff overlooking the beach. The nightlife is very lively in Albufeira.

In the summer, you have the sunbathing by the calm sea and water sports, including diving and windsurfing.

The region also has an 18-hole golf course, a marina and the Zoomarine water park.

Take the time to enjoy, in one of the many restaurants, the local specialty called Cataplana, a mixture of crispy seafood, shellfish and steamed fish.

Stay from 7th Sept to 11th Sept

The villa was in good location in relation to shops and nightlife. For the nightlife it required a short taxi ride which was fine. In terms of the villa it was very dated and requires modernising. Some improvements for the owner would be: 1. Make sure the lights outside are working as when we were having a BBQ after dusk there was limited light outside and we were required to use our phones to generate more light; 2. We didn't go in the pool which we would have liked as it was cloudy and we could not see down to the bottom. After some further TLC on the property we feel that it can achieve the 4/5 star rating...overall it met our requirements but having something more modern for the price would have been better value for money.

Wonderful Villa, Fantastic Pool and Outside Space.

  • 4 of 5

The Villa itself is fantastic, extremely spacious and well equipped. The pool and outside space are wonderful again with all the beds, chairs and tables you could possibly want for a large family.

Quinta Da Balaia, is an aging holiday resort and little tired in places, but is quiet and the shop is well priced and the bar provides affordable and tasty meals.

The are issues with the Villa, it is tired and I have seen on other reviews similar comments about the bathrooms, they are functional, but some money needs to be spent refurbishing them. The pool itself is massive and cleaned every day, again a little tired as is the outside area. It just needs the odd jobs sorting out, rather than leaving them to get worse. I must say that the two massive trees which are adjacent to the property do cover the pool and outside area in shade until about 2pm, which I must admit was frustrating, im not sure if they could at least be thinned out to allow mores sunshine?

The only real complaint I have is the lack of Air Conditioning, that was a real nuisance, with only having fans in the room, it did get extremely uncomfortable at times. Even if the owners just had AC in the bedrooms, it would make a massive difference. This for me sets the villa apart from others I would look at in the future.

All in all we had a fantastic time with plenty of quality time spent with the family in the Villa, I would definitely recommend it, but I urge the owners to look at investing some money into the villa, to bring it back to the standard it deserves.

It was a nice place for a family with children.

  • 4 of 5

The proprty was nice, bit we missed the air condition in the house. In a climate with 30 to 40 degrees centigrade during the day the nights in bad became very warm.

In spite of that we all enjoid the stay and had unforgetable days in the area.

Algarve

Sunshine, warm temperatures and hot nightlife make this region the perfect holiday destination.

Algarve has a sunny, dry climate influenced by the Atlantic and Mediterranean conditions which make it a delightful year-round holiday destination, a perfect escape from cold Northern European winters.

The deep blue Atlantic Ocean held back by endless golden sandy beaches protected by dunes and a mild breeze, was one of the reasons why Portugal sea coast was chosen as the best in Europe.

Perfect for sun bathing and boat trips along some of the islands in the Algarve, miles of limestone caves, grottoes, cliffs and coves along its rugged coastline.

Waterparks are also a fun option, a world of water attractions for the whole family to enjoy.

Golfers will love the championship courses and 5-star resorts, some of them sitting on ochre cliffs surrounded by verdant pines with views across the Atlantic.

Charming towns boast beautiful Moorish architecture and a lively seaside ambiance that contrast with the vibrant nightlife in Portimão, Faro and Vilamoura.

At the extreme southwest of Portugal there is a place surrounded by wild nature far from the mass tourist activities of most of the Algarve, its name is Sagres, a village full of ancient sea legends and historic monuments, from where Portuguese ships set sail on their voyages of maritime discovery - it also happens to be considered one of the best surf breaks in Europe.

The highlight of the regional gastronomy is the fresh fish and seafood. Savour some of the delicious local cuisine including mussels, prawns and the “cataplana” (seafood stew).

Don’t miss the regional pastry, especially the almonds and marzipan cup cakes.
