Disappointing, sadly
Firstly, the owners of this property are nice, polite people. However, our stay left us disappointed. The villa is not in a very good state of repair, while we were there a cupboard door fell off in the kitchen (leaving dangerous, sharp metal sticking out), a bench outside collapsed (revealing rusty nails), countless hooks/knobs fell down for no reason etc. Luckily nobody was injured in the process. We didn't put any pressure on any of these things, they just gave way.
The games room contains very old items that aren't much use to anyone. The gym equipment is beyond repair, the pool table didn't work properly. The equipment at the pool, like floating devices all had holes in, so shouldn't be left there.
The decor is old-fashioned, with unusual paintings and tired looking throws on the furniture.
We were absolutely savaged by mosquitoes, I'm talking hundreds of bites each. I've never experienced that and I grew up in hot countries and have travelled extensively. We think they came from pools of standing water left around the pool. The place needs fumigating. It meant we didn't sleep much at all the whole time we were there.
We had arranged for a cleaner to come daily, given we were a group of eleven, swimming every day etc. The cleaner broke his leg on the first day, which was unfortunate, but no replacement was found. This really dampened the trip, as it meant we were constantly washing towels, sheets, cleaning surfaces (to keep away the many flies) etc. That makes us sound very spoilt, but we had made the booking assuming that would be part of it.
The villa is OK, if you're looking for something really basic and you aren't bothered about things being well-maintained and you're fine with being bitten to shreds, but we personally wouldn't recommend it to others who are looking for a relaxing holiday in a up-to-date home.
I feel sad saying this, as I know it's someone's property, but I'm a big believer in candid reviews. I wish I'd known before booking.
