A breath-taking living room with huge fireplace and banquet dining table, a mezzanine lounge area with TV and card / board games table, a well-stocked gallery library, a large farmhouse kitchen, antique furniture and a super-king ground floor bedroom all create a very special atmosphere in this fabulous barn conversion.
There are beams galore and the super-king and double bedrooms have their own secluded terraces as a quiet retreat. The large terrace, with its barbecue, overlooks the fenced pool and is well lit for those balmy evenings outside. The super-king and double bedroom are en suite, while the two twin bedrooms share a bathroom.
A former Dordogne farm, Les Taloches sits on the edge of the pretty riverside village of Tourtoirac and is paradise for adults and children of all ages with 19 acres of wood and meadow to explore. Ideally located in an unspoilt area of the Dordogne, the property is close to the fairytale château of Hautefort, with plenty of cycling routes from the door (including the Lawrence of Arabia route which goes through the village).
Gracing two sides of a large, lime-tree shaded courtyard are the oak-beamed farmhouse - La Châtaigne - and a huge stone barn - La Grange - now transformed into a superb house which are great for families and groups sleeping between 8 and 20 people (they can be hired individually or together).
Both are self-contained for privacy - each has its own unusually large private pool, secluded garden and separate entrance drive. Secluding the houses are fields and orchard and, for the energetic, there is a big play area, a badminton court, table tennis, a games room and bikes. For children the massive sandpit and playhouse are a great attraction but the lovely rural location is also perfect for those who just want to relax in the sunshine. Tourtoirac village has a boulangerie, bar and restaurant just 500m away.
Extracts from our guest books say it all:
'We had a fantastic week. The wedding, the family get-together the following day at our amazing holiday home, the scenery, the people, the food, France itself, were all a joy. I promised Suzie and Gary, the lovely new owners of Les Taloches, who couldn't have been kinder and more helpful, that I would spread the word and this is my effort (and, no, I'm not on commission, honestly!). Family members, who hadn't been on holiday in France before, were so taken with it, they are planning to return next year. As son no. 1 said, "If this is to be your last self-catering holiday, it might as well be somewhere this special" and, do you know, it was, it really was.
PS If you should happen to read this, Suzie and Gary, I did say to you that my wheels mostly grind extremely slowly so, for this post to be done only a week after our return, is pretty phenomenal for me and is a testament to you both and not just because of the gorgeous lemon drizzle cake you so kindly baked for us, Suzie; honest!!! We wish you every success in your venture. You deserve it.

The lovely old farmhouse and the beautiful stone barns were exactly as we imagined a Dordogne property to be. Both the letting properties were big and comfortable and each had its own pool. Our own accommodation was discreetly tucked away. The houses and the whole area steeped in history and has many traditional features - though of course it has been updated! The climate is delightful and the countryside is beautiful - lots of forest and fields interspersed with romantic villages and loads of sights to see.
A lovely comfortable home from home. The properties are fully equipped with everything you could want for a real happy stay.

we spent two weeks at les taloches this June with two families sharing the house - it was magical & we can't wait to return. It is wonderfully equipt for children and adults alike with so many facilities and toys. We had a week of rain which really tests any holiday home & I can confirm this place has it all - also fabulous mountain biking locally which kept the boys amused!
We had a great time at Les Taloches. The house was spacious for our family of 5, including 3 small children, and another adult couple. The children absolutely loved the house, especially the lounge/loft area equipped with games and music. However we mostly enjoyed the lovely pool and terrace where we ate every evening. Jo and John were fantastic and helped us with whatever we needed. John magically cleaned the pool and tended the grounds before we woke up every morning, and then disappeared by the time we ate breakfast! The grounds were lovely and we took advantage of the many walking trails which begin right on the property. Thank you to John and Jo for making this a truly special holiday.
I have visited twice now and they have been my most relaxing holidays ever.
Le Grange is a beautiful well maintained property with great character.
One of the best things is you can do as much or as little as you want. There are several bikes available to use and we spent a day exploring the surrounding countryside. We also canoed down a river in a nearby village.
John and Jo were extremely knowledgeable about the surrounding area and really helped us when we wanted to go on day trips.
A thoroughly enjoyable holiday. Thankyou
A very beautiful house in a tranquil location. A great escape from it all. The house and pool have all the facilities you could think of and more. There are many sights nearby to visit. I have returned many times and each time there is more to enjoy.
Excellent customer service from the owners!
I wouldn't hesistate to recommend this property to anyone.
We have done a couple of trips to Les Taloches now and have stayed in both properties, on both a family holiday and with friends - perfect for both!
Jo and John (the owners) have described the properties very accurately, and the houses and pools are maintained in immaculate condition.
There is loads to do for both adults and the kids (lots of pool toys in the garage in La Chataigne!). Bikes are provided (there are about 8 of them) and on the last trip we did a fun canoe trip down the nearby river. The houses are also great in winter (we were there Dec '07), and were super cosy. Lunches and suppers around the huge trestle table in Le Grange, and both houses have roaring log fires (wood is provided, although the boys rather enjoyed chopping their own in the courtyard!).
The local chateau is worth a visit and there are 3 lovely restaurants in the nearby town of Hautefort, with hundreds of others a short drive away - fois gras and carnard are the local specialities!
Jo and John are charming hosts and can tell you anything you need to know about the local area, although it is also a great place to just go and explore. I would thoroughly recommend either of these houses, and will most definitely be returning again.
