Casa Maesta - Beautiful Tuscan Farmhouse with Swimming Pool

Overview

Property

Updated: 01-Dec-2016

Casa Maesta is a beautifully restored Tuscan farmhouse located 5 km from the medieval town Anghiari and 10km from the Roman town Sansepolcro.

The town of Anghiari is nicely situated in the heart of the Upper Tiber Valley (Alta Valtiberina). Officially listed as “Uno dei Borghi piú belli d'Italia” (one of the most beautiful towns in Italy), the small and picturesque medieval town of Anghiari is laid-back but cultured while being lively but without suffering from hordes of tourists. It is also an excellent base for easy day-trips to the “jewels” of Tuscany and Umbria such as Florence, Siena, Perugia and Assisi, just to mention a few.

This secluded property has a large swimming pool (12 x 6 meters) and the plot extends over 5,000 sqm -fully enclosed, of which around half is a spacious garden with fruit trees and the rest is forest with oak trees. There is an alluring landscape surrounding the property with tobacco fields, sunflowers, olive trees and vines.

The house is about 200 square meters. It has a well equipped kitchen (microwave, large fridge/freezer, gas cooker and oven, dishwasher, food processor) and seats a minimum of 6, big dining room (seating 10) and a large living room with a fire place, 3 generously sized bedrooms, two with double beds and one room with two single beds. It also has an upstairs living room with a sofa bed that sleeps 2. In the upstairs living room there is a 50 inch LCD TV, DVD player, board games, films and books, and the house is also equipped with Wi-Fi. The privacy of the house is undisturbed and it combines rural peace with the convenience of local shops and very good restaurants.

Truffles, oilve oil, goat cheese are all available locally, and extensive details for local attractions/businesses and our personal favorites are available at the property.

The pool is open from mid May to end of September. We have a fence around the swimming pool, however, it is not secure as per any international standard.

Cot, high chair and stroller (suitable 6 month+ with rain cover (Chicco Snappy)) is available upon request

Perhaps Anghiari is most famous for the "The battle of Anghiari", one of the Florentine Republic's greatest victories. The battle was depicted by both Michelangelo and Leonardo Da Vinci. The town of Anghiari is nicely situated in the heart of the Upper Tiber Valley (Alta Valtiberina) and is officially listed as “Uno dei Borghi piú belli d'Italia” (one of the most beautiful towns in Italy), the small and picturesque medieval town of Anghiari is laid-back but cultured, lively but without hordes of tourists

Just 15 km away is Caprese Michelangelo, the birthplace of the renowned Renaissance artist Michelangelo.

There are many good restaurants in the area and 3 golf courses within 60km (and 75 km to Lamborghini's golf club)

Tuscany is a blend of delicious food, astonishing landscape, lovely medieval & roman towns and also home to the world class wine. It it is the birthplace of Renaissance and home to many famous artworks. Tuscany is classic Italy.

Day trips to many interesting places such as Florence, Siena, Arezzo, Assisi, or visit the vineyards in Montalcino, Chianti and Montefalco, Enjoy Arezzo's centro storico charm. It has some fine restaurants and wine bars, and what is arguably the single most essential artistic draw in the whole of Tuscany – Piero della Francesca's Legend of the True Cross fresco cycle in the church of San Francesco

Distance to some major towns and locations: Florence 100km, Siena 90km, Arezzo 30km, Assisi, 80km, Perugia 90km, San Marino 110km, Rome 240km

Fantastic beautiful spacious house with large garden, very peaceful location,

  • 5 of 5

We were very impressed with the size and the beautiful finish of the house.

Everything is of a very high standard, the beds, furniture, kitchen, bathrooms and pool area. We loved the big, well equipped kitchen, which made it fun to prepare meals and the beautiful patio, where we had most of our meals.

The pool area was great, with enough sunbeds and umbrellas and a table and chairs.

The welcome by Elio was warm, efficient and swift.

The garden is very large and there are more places to sit.

Sometimes in the evening we watched DVDs in the upstairs sitting room and on the only rainy day we had, everyone found a favourite area or room in the house where they could read, write or relax.

It is a very peaceful location, but not to far away from the shops (we went to the very well stocked Co-op in Sansepolcro) and when we could tear away for some sight seeing like Arezzo or Perugia.

We hope to return soon

Beatrice and John Gill

A True Taste of Rural Tuscany

  • 5 of 5

Casa Maesta is a wonderful rural location for the perfect Tuscan family holiday. Hidden away in a quiet valley and surrounded by rolling wooded hills, this lovely restored farmhouse is also just a few minutes' drive to the medieval beauties of the ancient towns of Anghiari, Monterchi, and Citerna, and just half an hour from the city of Arezzo.

Airy and cool in the heat of the summer, Casa Maesta, feels like home - and for a week it is home. Hill walks in the cool of the morning, visits to the markets for coffee, swimming in the lovely pool in the heat of the afternoon, and beers, chianti and barbecue in the evening. Beautiful sunsets as the birds swoop overhead and we read in the fading light on the terrace. Teenagers in the TV room upstairs happy with wifi, games and sunburn...

We're met on arrival by friendly and helpful caretakers, and all was shipshape, spotless, tidy and well appointed, as advertised. Filip was very attentive and helpful in the lead up to our holiday, and we wholeheartedly recommend Casa Maestra to anyone contemplating a visit.

A true highlight for us was our serendipitous visit to a wonderful new nearby restaurant, il Cappello di Paglia. Hilltop location, lovely hosts, the most amazing wine and rural Tuscan food. This is a must visit.

We are already planning to return. Oh, there is one thing our daughters would like to change for the future. When we asked why they had their deckchairs close to the house and the terrace rather than the pool, just 20 yards away, the answer came: "Can we move the pool closer to the house please? Then we'll be able to get wifi!" That's teenagers for you!

Beautiful well equipped farmhouse in a great location

  • 5 of 5

A fantastic stay at Casa Maesta which was beautiful and was everything you could want from a holiday property.

The house itself is big and set in beautiful gardens which are private and secluded. It is fantastically equipped, of high standard, and felt like you could live there. The kitchen was large and has just about every appliance, utensil, etc you can think of (other than a washer - which was unusual and the property really needs).

The other rooms were again of good size and there were lots of nice touches such as board games, books, etc.

The pool area and gardens were fantastic and there were lots of sitting areas and beds. The pool itself was large and warm and it was kept clean by our friendly robot...

The location of the property and the surrounding towns was excellent and perfect for touring the area.

My booking experience with Filip was also excellent who was friendly, helpful, and was good enough to check everything was OK once we had arrived. The house pack was informative and told us everything we needed to know. Elio the housekeeper was also friendly and informative.

Overall - an absolutely excellent property, friendly owner, and would fully recommend to anyone.

FANTATSIC EVERYTHING YOU COULD WISH FOR IN A BEAUTIFUL QUITE SAFE SETTING.

  • 5 of 5

Wounderful as ever .😎򓠊

Our second year at this property and we will return

Not only is the house superb, the grounds and pool are so well looked after. In a beautiful setting which is not only private but extremely quite.

It is very safe and a new fence around the pool will help you relax if you have small children.

The locals who look after the house are delightful and extremely helpful .

They do a great job the house is immaculate and the beds are comfortable , a surplus of towels for the house and pool.

Blankets for the nights when it gets cold and even Candles for your outside dinning.

Lots of adaptors should you require more than you have brought .

There is always oil ,vinegar, sugar, salt and pepper .

Washing up liquid cleaning materials .

Small things but they make do make a difference to your stay and there for no need to shop day 1

Only a short distance from Anghiari were you will find a small supermarket ,restaurants and laundrette and 15 mins to Sansopolcro your biggest town for your large supermarket shop.

There is a choice of many and lots of bars and restaurants .

Perugia airport is only about 45 mins away and Pisa some 2 1/2 hours .

WE WILL RETURN .😎򓠊

A big thank you to the owners for sharing your magical home . 👍𣐽򖈘

Magnificent!

  • 5 of 5

The property is as beautiful as the pictures suggest and you could not hope for a more peaceful location. We could have easily not left the grounds for the entire week! It has that home from home feel.

The kitchen is very well stocked with everything you would need (we stocked up at the coop in Sansepolcro). There is a large TV upstairs with a DVD player and some movies plus lots of games, the wifi is a decent speed too. We took some movies and a lead to plug the ipad into the TV.

The pool is a good size and gets the sun all day (when its out!) and is now gated so is child safe. Plenty of towels are provided.

One night was a bit chilly but we put the heating on (modern central heating) for a couple of hours and the house heated up instantly.

The pizza place in Anghiari was great with English speaking waiters but everywhere we visited was very friendly and with our non existent Italian the locals were very patient and helpful to understand us. Its worth exploring the local towns as the restaurants are so cheap.

We can not recommend this house highly enough, the owners and caretaker are very helpful and responsive and the house, pool and grounds are in very good order in a stunning location. We would love to go back!

Ottima valutazione della villa, per tutte le parti interne ed esterne una valutazione 5 stelle

  • 4 of 5

Owner's Response: Grazie Patrizia! Thank you for your nice comments about the house and the location, we are very happy that you enjoyed your stay! We apologize for the uneven road leading up to the house. The road was damaged by heavy rain, both in the summer and in October. We have now laid a new road so it should not be a problem any longer. Grazie - Filip

Location

From the Owner

The house is located in the Sovara Valley, surrounded by a beautifully landscape with hills, ancient villages, sunflower and tobacco fields. The property is private but with easy access to Anghiari, which has been voted as one of the most beautiful towns in Italy. We love to cook and the kitchen is fully equipped, ready for you to do the best with the local produce.
