We had a wonderful stay at Oyat apartment with the best location and views in lovely Marseillan.

We enjoyed a wonderful week in this apartment. The apartment had everything that you could want for a relaxing stay and the pod style coffee machine was most appreciated. Furnishings good quality and comfortable. We appreciated the extra touches with many items supplied in the kitchen, tea, coffee pods, and a very good supply of good quality crockery, cutlery and glassware etc. Bed and bedding was excellent similar to a 6 star hotel. Towels were good quality and even beach towels were supplied, which we did not use but most appreciated. We were happy that a safe had been provided for guest use. The Free Wifi worked very well for us. The washing machine on the garage level easily accessible by the elevator outside the apartment was used by us several times and we appreciated the supply of washing liquid that was supplied to use in the machine. As we had a car, the garage below accessible for the lift was most convenient. We will definitely recommend this apartment to anyone who wants to stay in this lovely area.

Truly magical

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from what I can honestly say was the most relaxing holiday we have ever been on. The village itself is simply stunning, quiet, relaxed but at the same time enchanting. Although it is still at heart a quiet French village, it still offers a good selection of superb restaurants where you can sample a variety of local fish, meat and of course the desserts washed down with the fantastic local wine. As for the apartment, in a word stunning. It is furnished to an exceptionally high standard and has all mod cons but yet still has a very rustic French feel thanks to the owners impeccable taste in furnishings. You wake up in the morning and go to bed at night looking over the beautiful harbour, a view that words cant describe and money cant buy. What more can I say, the apartment is perfect and is less than a stones throw away from all this beautiful port has to offer. It isn't a question if we will come back but when we will come back. Thanks for a fabulous stay.

Marseillan Plage
Car: recommended

Marseillan was a small fishing port that became a prosperous commercial port in the nineteenth century, with its association to the development of the wine trade. The famous Noilly Prat cellars have been in Marseillan since 1813. You can still see images of its past; the storehouses of the harbour area, the large merchants houses and the old town, with its narrow, winding streets.

The commerce of the busy trading port has now been replaced by yachts and is a popular stopover for boats from the Canal du Midi.

Oysters from the Étang de Thau are famous. Between Marseillan and Bouzigues the floating oyster farms reach as far as the eye can see. The young oysters are fixed with cement to ropes and immersed in the water until they reach a size suitable for harvesting. Fresh oysters are available in all of the local restaurants.

The town is the heart of the oldest French wine region. One of the best known local white wines is Picpoul de Pinet. Other well known regional wines are Corbiere, Minervois, Fitou and Cotes du Roussillon.

There are two coperatives in Marseillan where you can buy wine direct from the producer; Caves Richemer, on the port and Domaine La Madeleine Saint Jean, Rue du 19 Mars 1962, just two streets to the rear of the apartment.

You will find many small producers scattered around the area and they welcome visitors to taste their wines – a “degustation”.

The coast is unspoiled and is lined with long sandy beaches with designated safe swimming areas - perfect for children. Marseillan Plage is only ten minutes by car. During the summer months there is a bus service (Thau Aglo) direct from the port to the beach. Tickets and weekly travel cards can be purchased from the tobacconist (tabac) "Le Graffiti" in the centre of town.

The Languedoc region has a rich heritage, a history dating back to the 12th century and its association with the Cathars. It offers visitors a wide choice of cultural and natural attractions to discover.

You can visit up to eight UNESCO World Heritage sites in the region: Pont du Gard, Arles, Canal du Midi, Routes of Santiago de Compostela, Carcassonne, The Causses and the Cévennes, Avignon and Albi.
