About this property

Fully licensed as tourist accommodation, Villa Azul is one of just three buildings situated at Quintinha au Sol - there are two newly built and privately let villas together with the central restored “Quinta”. Villa Azul is the slightly smaller two-bedroom/two-bathroom villa, slightly elevated so quite private with fantastic views of the Desertas Islands in the distance. All the villas have their own private space – so you don’t really see anybody else. The villa is equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay, including heating, air conditioning and free Wi-Fi. The kitchen is fully equipped and includes a dishwasher and a washing machine in the garage. Lounge doors open directly onto a south-facing balcony that surrounds two sides of the villa, with fantastic views to both Ponto da Sao Lorenco and the Desertas Islands. The villa enjoys sunshine all day.
Quintinha au Sol is in the village of Gaula which is about 300 metres directly above Santa Cruz and less than ten minutes from the airport. There are spectacular ocean views through 180 degrees and rural mountain views inland. Very often, on clear days, the neighbouring island of Porto Santo can be seen over and beyond Ponta Sao Lorenco, which is the eastern tip of the island. Gaula is only twenty minutes from the centre of Funchal. Villa Azul provides a perfect base to explore the island – and there is a tremendous variety of things to do – from lounging on the beach to walking along the levadas, playing golf, discovering the Old Town in Funchal, and visiting the high mountains. It is a quiet and peaceful location but at the same time you are on the motorway within a few minutes (with the capital Funchal only 15 minutes away) and the local village (Santa Cruz) just 5 minutes. The perfect sandy beach at Machico is less than 10 minutes (with yet more good restaurants and cafes).

Villa Azul is licensed for tourism under the strictly-regulated Madeiran 'Alojemente Locale' scheme (AL). The scheme requires holiday villas to conform to safety, service and insurance standards. For example, in the interests of safety, the villas only have electric equipment; there are no gas appliances. Mosquito nets are fitted to all bedroom windows. There is a WiFi internet connection

Nice Villa with great views.

The villa is in a residential area; great views but comes with the usual noises of a neighbourhood. It would be impossible to survive without a car as it's high up in the hills, (easy to walk down but not back up). The Villa is clean and is adequately fitted out with all you need for self catering living. Could do with some sun loungers or comfy chairs for the balcony. Maria the housekeeper is very friendly and helpful and speaks excellent English. An enjoyable stay overall.

Great base for touring the island

Everything was well presented when we arrived, and the housekeeper very friendly and informative. There was nothing missing in the villa, which was exactly the same as your advert. The views were simply amazing (we had great weather) and from this location we were able to explore the whole island in just one week. Highly recommended.

Amazing Views

Like other guests we will never forget the views out to the end of the island from this villa. Everything was very clean and well presented and the housekeeper Maria is a delight. Everything is is the same as the advert. Highly recommended.

Excellent value

The villa was meticulously prepared and the housekeeper who met us was very friendly (her husband is a taxi-driver). Communication with the agent prior to arriving was very thorough - so we had directions to the nearest supermarkets and so on. One of the restaurants we planned to visit had closed, which was disappointing, but there are lots of others around. When you divide the cost by the four of us I think it worked out at a tenth of the cost of staying in a hotel and we had lots of space, bathrooms etc The views from the villa are memorable, and we are planning on returning next year.

Well-positioned property for walkers and sightseeing

The property was immaculately clean on our arrival and the collection of keys was a smooth operation. Maria (who greeted us) was lovely and very helpful. Overall the property was ideal for our needs (proximity to the main roads to the mountains and main artery roads). The property would benefit from the addition of a Nespresso type coffee machine (I missed the proper cup of coffee experience with my breakfast!!) Highly recommended, and would be happy stay here again.
