Overview

About the property

Comfy home for up to 8 – in beautiful country near beaches and towns

This charming country home, sleeping up to 8 people, has everything you will require for a comfortable, relaxing, quiet holiday. The kitchen is very well equipped for self-catering and contains plenty of equipment for serious cooks and eaters. After a meal of splendid local produce (especially fish, seafood and wonderful vegetables) you can let the dishwasher do the work while you relax in the spacious sitting-room. With two sofas, armchairs, games, a small hi-fi and a wood-burning stove, you can be equally comfortable in summer or winter.

Outside, the back garden has a wonderful sea view to enjoy while barbecuing and eating al fresco. The little front courtyard is an evening sun-trap perfect for pre-dinner drinks after your stroll back from the beach.

Each double bedroom and bathroom is approached by a separate staircase - ideal, perhaps, for two couples. Next to one of the double rooms is a twin room containing bunk beds, and the sitting room has a comfortable sofa-bed.

About Tom Barry

I first visited Normandy as a teenager and fell in love with it the minute I tasted my first coffee and croissant in a bar in Cherbourg! I lived all over the UK but have always liked being near the sea. I spent a lot of time on small boats, which meant frequent returns to Cherbourg. As a result I got to know the area quite well.

Tom Barry purchased this house in 2001

very functional. Only there 2 days. Back yard/garden was lovely and a big plus. Our co-hosts were warm and helpful with maps and eating suggestions and greeted us with a bottle of white wine.

Lodgings were quite simple and utilitarian.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at morsaline. The house was great, perfect for 2 couples to share happily. The garden was a particular delight, with fantastic views to St Vaast and the bay. lovely town with lots of good restaurants especially great if you like seafood.

Great location and views

  • 4 of 5

The property benefits from an excellent location - fantastic to explore the north-eastern corner of the Cotentin peninsula from here. The house is spacious and the garden has a beautiful sea view. A visit to the Ile de Tatihou is a must - wading back at low tide was so much fun. There's also a thrilling walk around the sea wall at the fort in St Vaast. Excellent week.

Rural with fantastic views over the bay

  • 4 of 5

Lovely cottage with two halves - excellent for a family and grandparents. Both kitchen/diner and living room good space for spreading out. Plenty of seating and plates, pots and pans etc. Lovely views from the garden and the beach made a great evening walk for more shell hunting. Supermarket about 5 mins drive. Visited various beaches and canoed on River Douve.

Well equipped and spacious house in Morsalines

  • 4 of 5

The proprietors are very friendly and eager to help you whenever possible. The house provides all things you need on a holiday, from a hair drier to kitchen utensils. The house is located within walking distance to the sea, even if you have small children. The neighbourhood offers plenty possibilities to enjoy nature and culture. The only disadvantage was the fact that it is rather dark (no direct sunlight in the living or dining room), so it can be rather chilly. The fireplace didn't work properly when we were there. The electric heating system does work properly, so you don't need to remain in the cold, but it would have been cosier with a working fireplace.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review of our house. Actually the house does get direct sun but not all the time. Indeed in the summer guests often take advantage of the sun shining in the front yard to sit with their aperitifs. Early April sun can be more elusive it is true, but as you say there is plenty of electric heating to warm things up. We have tested the wood burning stove and can't find a problem. It throws out a decent heat. It is a pity you didn't call us - we could have shown you how to regulate the output.

Comfy home, great location

  • 4 of 5

This place is perfect for two couples. The two bedrooms with on suites are in separate parts of the house making for good privacy. The kitchen has everything you will need, not often the case in our travels. A great lounging garden.

The house is only minutes from a beautiful sandy beach and close to small villages, markets and great seafood restaurants.

A good location for all the Normanie Landing Sites/Museums.

The owners went out of their way to make sure we had evrything.

The coastal village of Morsalines is just within the Naitonal Park of the Marais du Cotentin. The house is on the side of a hill rising up from the village, a few minutes walk from a beach popular for its shellfish. Southward lie the magnificent sands of historic Utah beach, now tranquil and welcoming, and the other D-Day landing beaches beyond. Inland you can explore the winding lanes of the lush green bocage. To the north, guarded by of the tallest lighthouse in mainland France, are more wonderful beaches, near ancient Barfleur with its fascinating Norman history. From the garden you can see the popular, picturesque sailing port of St Vaast, the island fortress of Tatihou and the Vauban fortification of La Hougue. Nearby is Quettehou which has all facilities - banks, shops, restaurants &c. There is a produce market locally every day of the week.

Morsalines is half an hour's easy drive from the channel port of Cherbourg, or about 90 minutes from Caen.

Other Activities: Markets, historic sites and history, wildlife, birdwatching.
