About the property

FULLY RENOVATED 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms; quiet and fully equipped kitchen

This beautiful apartment (" Le Pied-à-Terre") has just been completely renovated (April 2015), combining period features with all modern conveniences. The high ceilings with the old, exposed wooden beams, the wooden floors and the black and white marble in the bathrooms make it truly magical, giving you a true Parisian feeling.

It is located between two courtyards, on the second floor of an 17th century house in the heart of the Marais, making it very quiet and even allowing you to sleep with open windows.

The apartment's layout and its size (75 square meter/800 square foot) will provide you with ample space to relax and to enjoy your own privacy. Ideally suited for two couples or a family with children, the two bedrooms sleep 4 guests comfortably. One bedroom has a four poster, king size bed, whilst the other has 2 single beds with unique bed-stands (all mattresses are new) . The finest Egyptian cotton linen has been chosen for your comfort and pleasure. Both have their own bathrooms (one en-suite), equipped with 1940's style fittings, black and white Carrara marble floors and Parisian Metro tiles. There is also a separate toilet. High quality face, hand and bath towels are provided. Each bedroom has got a powerful avant-garde silent Dyson (AM08) air cooler.

The sitting room is very large and has a mock fire place with many candles, antiques, modern art, leather chairs and a designer sofa, dim-able lights - a perfect place to relax before or after exploring Paris. The chef's kitchen has been designed and equipped to enable you to cook a wonderful meal. It has a lovely, large white Carrara marble work area and faces the dining area which has a stunning 19th century wooden table which can sit up to six guests. A large Freud retro style fan is at your disposal.

Naturally Pied-à-Terre has modern independent heating in each room, including the bathrooms; free high speed wifi; flat screen TV, Netflix, Apple TV, DVD player, DVD library, books, BOSE docking station, washer drier, microwave, induction hob, traditional oven, Nespresso coffee machine, kettle, toaster and dishwasher You can make free landline phone calls to over 150 countries.

This property is located in the heart of the Marais, the most vibrant arrondissement of Paris, in walking distance from many attractions like the Centre Pompidou, the Picasso Museum, Place de Voges and even Notre Dame. The neighbourhood boosts many nice restaurants/brasseries, organic stores, patisseries and the flat is only 5-10 minutes walk away from the famous covered food market "Les Enfants Rouges" were you can buy organic fruit and vegetables, lovely fish and great French cheese.

The closest Metro station is Arts-et-Metiers 5 minutes away from Pied-a-Terre and buses and Velibs (bicycles that can be rented daily or weekly and are a great way to explore Paris) are close by. However, given Le Pied-à-Terre's central location you will most likely explore Paris on foot. The airports and the main train stations can easily be reached by public transport or by taxi and you will receive all information you need when you book the apartment. A manager will welcome you, show you around the property, give you the keys and provide you with valuable tips. He is of course available in case of emergency or for any questions you may have.

For guests who would like to come with a car, the nearest parking is located less than 150 meters from the flat and is called: "Parking Temple Alizés". Should you wish to book in advance, you get discounts using this website - http://www.parkingsdeparis.com/

Living like a true Parisian

  • 5 of 5

This apartment is a hidden jewel, nestled in the charm of the Marais. To access it, you make your way through two stone courtyards and up a wooden stair lifted straight out of a fairy tale. Inside, the place is all exposed beams, mortar, and dramatic lighting, like the setting of an 18th century painting of peasant life....but what sumptuous amenities! Crisp white sheets, thirsty and abundant towels, handy city guides, whimsical fixtures and first rate kitchen supplies. And the unit boasts not one but two marble-tiled showers with exquisite water pressure. The owner and his representative were courteous and so very helpful; in no way intrusive but available to address any concerns. This is the Marais, so you don’t get thrilling views; just the windows and rooftops of crowded buildings nearby. But it hardly matters. The apartment itself is rich with the very essence of Paris: old-world authenticity, idiosyncratic but richly appealing design, and steeped in luxury. For four glorious days, we pretended to be true Parisians!

Enjoyable stay in a clean comfortable flat. It should be noted that the stairs are steep and windy for luggage carrying. The washer is a bit confusing to use, study up on the meaning of the dial icons! There could be extra blankets and towels.

A lovely apartment with plenty of tour books in English left behind by previous visitors. Shower and bath are updated and very nice. Beds are comfortable with bedroom curtains that keep out all light, so set your alarm. Kitchen is functional, updated and clean. Our host was available by email when we needed a doctor nearby. A welcoming place to land at the end of our long days of touring Paris.

Owner's Response: Hello and thank you so much for your honest feedback. I am happy that overall, your experience has been a great one. I will certainly work better on the washer's explanations and will provide guidance for it. I also note your comments about towels and blankets - this should not have been a problem and would recommend asking when in the Property - we are happy to provide them as you want them. Finally, guides and books were gathered by us to allow our guests to have everything they need to have a good time. Thank you again for taking the time to share with us your wonderful experience with PIED-À-TERRE! Ivan

Fantastic Property in a Perfect Location

  • 5 of 5

First, a little context is necessary. My wife and I are self-professed "hotel snobs" and think that the place in which you stay can make or break your vacation. And before this trip, we had never stayed at a VRBO before. Because of that, we were a little reluctant, particularly because we were traveling with our 2 kids (ages 9 and 7). The experience (and stay) couldn't have been better.

For starters, the owner and manager are VERY communicative and go out of their way to answer questions or address any concerns. We landed mid morning with 2 tired kids. Knowing this, they went out of their way to hurry and get the apartment ready for our stay before noon, even though the previous travelers had just checked out that morning. We were so grateful, as it gave us a chance to unwind a bit and catch our breath.

We were greeted with a welcome basket, and thorough tour of the place, instructions on how to use everything, and a laminated book capturing everything we needed to know about the place and the neighborhood. Their emails before hand were very instructive and gave us everything we needed to know once we got there.

The apartment itself is perfect. The rooms are large and well apportioned. The 2nd bedroom with 2 single beds were great for our kids, and them having their own bathroom was extremely helpful. The kitchen has everything you need for cooking, including new appliances. The apartment is quiet, and located conveniently within 2 blocks of the Metro stop, many restaurants, and 2 grocery stores. If you elect to do so, you can easily walk downtown -- it took us 20 minutes to walk to Notre Dame, and 25 minutes to St. Germain. Also, you're a 5-minute Metro ride away from the San Lorenzo train station from where you can reach anything in the City. We were at the Eiffel Tower in 10 minutes.

Because the place is run like a hotel, you never miss any conveniences that otherwise come with staying at a hotel. In fact, this is better.

For our first VRBO experience, we couldn't have been happier. The only thing we would change is that next time we will stay longer!

Thanks again!

Our second stay in this beautiful and quiet two bedroom, two bath apartment

Even better than our first visit two years ago. Great location 3 blocks north of Pompidiu Center but only a 5 minute walk to the center of the Marais. Very well equipped with every comfort except AC. The owner is the best!

About Ivan

As a child, I lived in Versailles and Paris was the city of my dreams. When I finally moved to Paris I loved exploring and savouring this wonderful and vibrant city. I always wanted to own a traditional Parisian apartment in the city centre.

My dream came true in 2004 when I purchased this property whilst living in London. I enjoyed visiting Paris regularly and staying in my apartment.

I decided to renovate the property totally and to give other people the chance to share my passion for this incredible city. Having said that, I love the apartment so much that I often visit and stay in it myself.

Ivan purchased this apartment in 2004

Why Ivan chose Arts et Métiers

The combination of 17th century Parisian charm, antique furniture, exposed beams, all modern comforts, the location, right in the heart of the Marais ,and the fact that it is incredibly quiet make the apartment unique.

The kitchen has been designed an fitted to satisfy any hobby cook and the proximity to food markets and typically French food stores make it very easy to prepare lovely meals.

Being in walking distant from so many major tourist sites and being surrounded by wonderful places where one can eat and drink without having to use public transport makes it a perfect base for a short visit or a long stay.

The manager, who lives in the same building, will take good care of you ensuring that you receive the best customer service and, as a local, he can give you wonderful recommendations.
