VERA exquisite 2 bedrooms 2 baths apartment with garden, A/C, close to Parking

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,076 sq. ft.
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 4 nights

About the property

2 Double Master Bedrooms with air conditioning, 2 Bathrooms, Air conditioning

Casa VERA, once horse stable of the antique palace belonged to Lord Guinigi (1700s) now it has been converted into a homey apartment with a private fenced garden in 2015. The renovation was done to highest standards making up 2 comfortable bedrooms (both with king size beds), 2 bathrooms both with grand built-in showers, AIR CONDITIONING, WIFI, a private fenced garden furnished with table and chairs and a little sofa, any kind of kitchen appliance and utensils.

Casa Vera is located in the same building of Casa Francesca (www.homeaway.co.uk/1685566) that I manage as well. The building consists of only those 2 units and each one has its own separate fenced private garden so privacy is never compromised.

For larger groups (up to 8 guests) the two apartments can be rented together as well making up a total of 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.

The apartment has double entrance, one from the garden and one from the street. It is composed of: a spacious living area with living room, a fully equipped kitchen with dining room, 2 double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a LAUNDRY ROOM fully equipped with washer/dryer, iron and board.

The apartment is sun exposed all day which makes it very bright all day, this is a very rare thing in Italy!

The location is the quietest and the nicest, overlooking the gardens from where the lovely chirping of birds comes.

The apartment is very suggested for 2 couple of friends travelling together as the bedroom and bathrooms organization provides privacy for everyone; but it is also suggested for 2 friends trafelling together that do not want to share same bedroom and same bathroom as well as for a family of 4.

About Mrs Sonia

Hallo everyone! My name is SONIA and I am from Lucca. I run my Lucca Holiday Rentals company that offers exceptional apartments in the heart of Lucca. My goal is to help you fall in love with Lucca – to discover, explore, taste and savor new sights and experiences in this incredible city.

My company began almost 10 years ago when I started to rent my family villa after my parents moved to the mountains when they got retired. I spent there my entire childhood and I grew up there in deep contact with the nature and the history. My father thaught me everything about the birds and the antique trees and flowers of the villa and the smell of the sizzling pans used to wake me up each Sunday morning after my mum started to cook! I was fascinated by her when she was telling me the history of the villa in the past century. I thought this kind of feelings are too precious to let them go so then I had the idea to share my love of Lucca and “la dolce Vita” by finding beautiful apartments , villas and farmhouses in my favorite Lucca neighborhoods among my family members properties. Lucca Holiday Rentals started out as a boutique family company and now there are over 15 people working together. We are a friendly and enthusiastic team who will assist you every step of the way, from your first enquiry to your arrival in Lucca.

Mrs Sonia purchased this apartment in 2016

Nice property with many close amenities

  • 4 of 5

Stayed four nights in Sept 2017: Beautiful building - small living room but good size bedrooms and bathrooms. Many groceries and excellent pastry shops close by. Steps to the wall across the street. Due to almost the whole city being a ZTL, parking is a problem. An underground lot is recommended inside the walls but I used Parcheggio Palatucci outside Portal S. Donato and fed the meter 6 euros a day - It was a nice walk along the wall and not much farther than the underground lot. Good taxi service to bring luggage to the apt. Confusion over cleaning fee collected at check-in. Miss Sonia clearly states in her communications that there is a fee but the VRBO site says " no additional mandatory fees" and then says there is a final cleaning fee. The VRBO info needs to be cleaned up. We got instructions for the washer before she left and had no problems. Sonia informed of very dirty dishes in the cabinet under the tv. Lucca is a truly beautiful city and was one of our favorite stops over 4 weeks in Italy. Took the train to Cinque Terre ( 2 hours ) - very pretty but VERY crowded. At other properties that we stayed at, the owners provided a parking permit. That should be done at Apt. Vera and the stay would be much less stressful. Overall, a very enjoyable stay.

Owner's Response: Thank you Victor for your kind words. I suggest my guests to follow instructions and suggestions given about parking and permits as as a local I can provide my knowledge in order to provide a more comfortable stay to my guests. Please note that it is not possible to park or drive inside the town of Lucca unless you are a registered permanent resident of the town (so with proper paperworks registered at police office etc) or unless you have an hadicapped badge for which we always provide instructions and advices how to access the town and park at the apartment. Cleaning fee to be paied extra is clearly stataed into the notes to the rental rates as well as in the email exchange we had before booking.

The Vera Apartment is a wonderful choice, if wanting to stay within the walls of interesting Lucca.

  • 5 of 5

Sonia was always attentive to our needs and a terrific host - so important in a home rental situation!

The Vera apartment is well laid out, offering enough space for two couples to easily share their stay. We appreciated the large windows, providing sunny, bright and well-designed rooms to live in. The beds are comfortable and linens of top quality - and the bedroom location at the rear of the apartment provides absolute quiet for sound sleeping. Having an enclosed garden setting was perfect - offering a lovely, quiet outdoor area to comfortably enjoy. The two bathrooms were equally good, with extra large shower stalls with overhead rain shower and a secondary hand-held atttachment. Space was thought about in the design - spacious area, tiled, modern.

The apartment location was excellent! It sits in the north/west corner, within the walled town. We were within a 15 minute walk to anywhere we wanted to go, with the exception of the train station, taking about 25 minutes (walking the wall) or slightly shorter, through the town.

Great location, but few amenities

  • 4 of 5

Perfect location for what we did, However, had to purchase toilet paper and paper towel. Be sure to get instructions on using the washer-- none in information book. Would go back.

Lovely apartment but.......

  • 4 of 5

The apartment is well located close to the inside of the city walls, and it is a matter of minutes to walk to everywhere within the town or to go for an evening stroll around the walls. It is extremely well appointed in terms of decor, bathrooms and furniture and was very clean. Very welcome and quiet air conditioning, and a very comfortable place to stay. The selection of plates, glasses etc seemed rather random, with no decent set of wine glasses and no glass big enough to hold a gin and tonic. Masses of plates but no ordinary dessert bowls.

Small negative is that when we were there the youth hostel opposite on 2 nights hosted noisy rock concerts in their garden though these stopped at midnight so not such a problem since we went out to dine anyway.

Had some difficulty with communications with the lady running the apartment. I was hoping that we might be able to have access to the apartment a little earlier in the day. I also specifically asked if there were any extra fees to be paid and if so how much. All I got back in reply to my repeated questions were 3 repeated copies of her standard email with details of directions to the apartment, parking etc.

Generally felt that this is very much a business with little generosity shown eg only 2 dishwasher tablets for the week, had to buy clothes detergent, one tea towel, no welcome pack like one often gets. It is pretty expensive to rent and it wouldn't cost much to supply a few essentials. There was a fold up bed left in the corridor that was supposed to be taken away but remained there all week. The most annoying aspect is the extra fees that needed to be paid in cash on arrival. I had been informed that there would be a credit card fee - this on top of the €79.96 charged by Owners Direct - yet there was no other way offered to make the payment (given the chance I would have done a direct bank transfer). I have rented many properties over the years and have never been asked for such a payment before. Then we had to pay €50 cash for final cleaning which is a lot for a 2 bed flat and I do not believe had been mentioned in any of the communications (I have checked back and can find no mention). So being asked for an extra €75 as soon as you arrive is an unfortunate start.

Having said all that the apartment is lovely and I certainly wouldn't rule out going there again.

Owner's Response: Dear Sue, on the notes to the rental rates posted on the home advert are reported the possible payment methods (there is clearly stated that paying directly to us could have saved the service fee that I repeat is not my responsibility). Always in the note to the rental rates are all the extra fees and costs (which in the end is only one and that is the final cleaning of 50 euros) so I deduced that at the time of booking did not read the description of the ad. I am very transparent and clear in my work, so there are a lot of positive reviews on the ad and I'm really sorry that due to a little attentive tenant there is now a slightly less positive review than the others. Regarding our communication before your arrival, I re-checked and I saw that every request was promptly answered and every email was answered promptly. Regarding fruit bowls if asked, we would have provided them with pleasure, as we do for each guest request. Being a self catering apartment we usually provide some essentials like olive oil, vinegar, salt, pepper, sugar and some spices, paper napkins, toilet paper etc .. I'm sorry there were only two tablets for the dishwasher but like the I repeat ours is a concept of holiday home rather than hotels as of course the price suggests (the apartments cost on average 70-130 euros per night for 4 people while the hotels cost 100 euros to 180 euros nightly for only two people). Nevertheless, we are sorry that your stay did not meet your expectations and for this I would be happy to offer you a discount for your next stay or a few extra nights for your stay.

Warning! Parking a nightmare and expensive.

  • 3 of 5

The villa itself was beautiful. Parking was a nightmare to get. I did ask about parking and was told we could not park anywhere within the walls so we duly set about searching. We managed to get secure parking at a high cost as we were told we would get fined if we parked within the walls. We asked tourist information about this and they told us that the person with whom we rented the villa off has to apply for a permit for us but at no time did she mention this. Cutlery was clean but only the top plate of the set was clean the others had so much dust we left marks when we ran our fingers over them. We had no toilet roll holder in the en-suite. Rubbish had to be put out every day between 6.00am & 9.00am in a certain way. I also disagreed with the person taking photographs of our passports, a look at them is usually enough. It was handy for everything you need all within walking distance. Take plenty of bug repellent as there are lots of them. Take some ant killer as well as we were over-run with them. However, if you're not hiring a car the villa is in a fantastic place.

Great apartment in a lovely location

  • 4 of 5

Property was well presented and a couple of little questions / issues were easily sorted with the owner.

Plenty of room and the location in Lucca is ideal - not too close to the busy centre (but easily walkable), free parking nearby, and easy access to roads to get out and about in Tuscany.

Would happily stay there again.

Car: not necessary

Lucca, beautiful city, famous for its monumental 15th century fortified wall. But dig a little deeper and you find that its winding medieval streets actually follow the plan laid out by the Romans in 180BC. And before the Romans, Lucca was one of the major centres of Etruria, the ancient country of central Italy that more or less corresponds to modern Tuscany. Unsurprisingly then, Lucca is steeped in history. Your twelfth century building is just a small part of that. There are museums and churches, and the magnificent cathedral, the Duomo di San Martino, is the town’s finest Romanesque building, its impressive façade a triumph of sculpture, carving and inlay work – at just five minutes’ walk from the apartment. Modern delights include terrific restaurants, bars and shops, all within a few minutes’ walk. In Lucca’s winding streets, the pedestrian comes before the car, so you can move at your own pace. In fact wandering the streets is one of the great pleasures of the city.
