Porticcio: PORTICCIO is situated in the Bay of Ajaccio and is across the bay from the island's largest town of Ajaccio - birth place of Napoleon Bonaparte. Porticcio is a seaside resort in natural surroundings with superb beaches and a wide variety of watersports. There is a ferry which provides regular services across the bay to Ajaccio and takes 20 minutes. Along the road to the south are small villages with plenty of fine beaches, some with restaurants and bars. Away from the coast the land rises steeply and roads twist and climb through the pine forests to villages perched above magnificent panoramas of the Mediterranean. There are some wonderful cycle tracks and hiking trails such as the 'Mare e Monte'. Along the coast to the north is the Gulf of Porto which is classed a a 'world heritage site' by UNESCO, to the south is Filitossa a renowned neolithic site, and inland are mountains rising to nearly 3000 meters. We keep masses of information in the villa to help you make the best of your stay.

PORTICCIO is approximately 25 minutes from the port and 20 minutes from the airport. All the major car rental firms operate in Ajaccio.

Great Villa with wonderful views
The villa is situated on a hill above the town commanding wonderful views whatever time of day, but they especially spectacular in the evening while watching the sunset over the bay. It has three good size double rooms and a triple. The double bedrooms are well appointed, the triple is a little dark but functional. The living space is on the top floor, with a large lounge dinner, opening out onto a veranda. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the villa, and enjoyed the homely atmosphere. The kitchen is well equipped and we spent most evening on the veranda enjoying the views and home cooked food. If you wanted to venture out their are plenty of good restaurants on the beach in the local town which is approximately a 10 min walk down the hill, but just remember you have to make it back up the hill after your night out. Shops are close by, with carrefour in town for all your major supplies. I would have no hesitation in recommending this villa, with plenty of beaches, shops and restaurants close by it's a perfect break.

Beautiful villa josephine!
We were a group of 7 UK scuba divers, with 5 staying at the Josephine and 2 staying at the viva marina in the town. Our 1st impression was the same as our last, this is a wonderful place to stay!. Mrs Bianchi and her husband (a keen diver) prepared the villa very well met us in the morning and made us feel welcome. The villa itself is absoloutly charming, you could tell that the owners had lavished love and care on it and everywhere you looked there was something to like, from the nick nacks around the bathrooms and bedrooms to the pictures on the walls of the lounge and kitchen, you could tell that thought had gone into making it a place to be proud of. As a group of middle aged men we are generally quite lazy so we tend to eat out normally. However at the Josephine we wanted to stay and watch the sunsets (spectacular!) and talk over the days diving and the terrace became our focal point. And we demonstrated culinary skills that we did not know we possessed. Views - Stunning,if anything the pictures dont do it justice Facilities - excellent, cant think of anything that was not provided Cleanliness - very clean and functional Location - easy to get to and in a fantastic position Commnication - very good comms from the owners both before we got there and a huge folder of info about the villa, Porticcio and the surrounding area Garden - beautifully maintained and a great place to relax and wind down Bedrooms - great views and very comfortable All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our villa experience and would recommend it to anyone wanting to visit Corsica. Many thanks to Micheal and Marie Catherine!!

Excellent house with amazing views
The house was very clean and tidy and is really well equipped with all the crockery, kitchen utensils etc that we could possibly need. We loved the access to the terraces/balcony from each of the three main bedrooms. The barbecue was brill. We really enjoyed exploring the local beaches and the nearby restaurants. Even in August you can find quieter coves. The short walk back is partly uphill - hence the spectacular views. It is a good location for getting into the mountains by car. We also enjoyed the ferry over to Ajaccio. The information left by the owners came in handy. A very easy house to relax in.

Great house with lots of lovely details!
Our impressions of Villa Josephine: Great house with lots of lovely details, very nice location, wonderful views in all directions, gorgeous sunsets and a delightful garden planted with love. Created in different levels, letting each area be an own island of silent. Terrific is the large dining table on the terrace, which was our evening centre and barbecue area next to it, invited us over and over again for grilling. ... And so we made it only once to enjoy the exquisite shells at "Chez Alain". In house and garden you can relax very nice in a quiet, Villa Josephine is the ideal place to let yourself relax and to dangle your soul. Shops, beaches and restaurants, as well as the small boat harbour to transfer to Ajaccio are within walking distance. Our extended family spent wonderful days in Corsica. The host couple is very friendly and very concerned about the well-being of the guests. At this point a big thank you to Catherine and Michael! We would definitely come back!

Lovely Villa in Porticcio
We thoroughly enjoyed our two week stay at Villa Josephine. The property was excellent and was well maintained and clean. We found that the information provided prior to our stay and at the property itself was extremely useful and enabled us to make the most of our time in Corsica. This was the third time we had stayed in this particular area of the island but we managed to find some new places to explore as well as return to many of our favourite spots. The property was extremely comfortable for us and was well equipped. The property is in a great location, very convenient for the airport and visiting Ajaccio and other places of interest including the Gorges du Prunelli. There are plenty of boat trips from Porticcio enabling you to see other parts of this beautiful island. As the weather was so good we spent most of our time on the many local beaches, and you needn't drive very far to find some really great beaches. There are also plenty of excellent places to eat locally - our favourite was Chez Alain at Agosta Plage which we went back to three times - great food, very reasonable and extremely friendly staff. There are also lots of shops in Porticcio which enable you to buy from local butchers, fruit and vegetable shops etc without necessarily needing a supermarket (although the local supermarket also caters for most needs). We would definitely recommend a stay at this property and we would like to return to it at some point in the future.

We are an Anglo-Corsican family sharing our time between England and Porticcio and the family home in the mountains. Our children have been coming to Corsica all their lives and since our retirement we have been spending about 4 months a year in sunny Corsica.

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with this house on our first visit. We were especially attracted to the stunning view over the sea towards the Isles de Sanguinaires which is wonderful in the morning for breakfast and with the sunset in the evening. We also particularly liked the proximity to the beach and Porticcio as we wanted our children to be able to come and go independently. The house is bright with light flooding in through windows and the sea breezes ensure that the interior remains cool, even in summer.

What makes this property unique

The views from the terrace, the garden and most of the windows are very special - uninterrupted sea views with the Isles de Sanguinaires clearly visible 15 Kms away, and Ajaccio 5 Kms across the bay and the views of the mountains. From dawn until dusk there is always some activity on the sea - boats arriving from the South of France, yachts, dinghies, motor boats and windsurfers. The views are absorbing and interesting from breakfast through to dinner and sunset. The beach and Porticcio are within a few minutes walk, downhill all the way there and a climb uphill for the return. Alternatively driving is quicker and parking usually easy.
