About the property

Kjarvalströð 14

Kjarvalströð is a new luxury 'old style' privately owned cottages located in the spectacular and unique surroundings of Snaefellsnes on the west coast. Approx. two hour drive from Reykjavik. The National Park is only 5 min away. Enjoy the magnificent views of the glacier Snaefellsjökull, the surrounding mountains, and over the bay Faxaflói. The cottage is one of few cottages designed as Icelandic houses from 1920's. There are plenty of things to do and see in the area such as: beautiful hiking, whale watching, sailing around the many islands, historical places, bird watching, skiing and sightseeing on the glacier.

If you are looking for a quiet area to relax, or want to explore the unspoiled nature and many wonderful activities in the area, these Cottages are the perfect place!

Please visit our homepage http://icelandcottages.is/ for more pictures and info.

Please also take a look at the new cottages, Kjarvalströð 8 and Kjarvalströð 12.

This cabin was perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at the cabin in Hellnar. The host Jakob was so helpful and accommodating. I was concerned, at first, about staying in Hellnar and whether there would be enough to do in the area. There was so much to do in just an hour radius that we didn't see everything in four days! I can honestly say this is one of the best places I have ever rented before. The beautiful setting, with the glacier to the front and the ocean at the back, made this cabin perfect for our group. Also, the beds were super comfy. :) I plan to come back and visit again one day. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a cabin in this area.

Great Time in Hellnar ...

  • 5 of 5

We had a very good time in "the second home of Jakob and Elsa". Thank you very much to have the good stay there. The House is very good furnished and well equipped. The location is absolutely perfect to relaxe, to enjoy Iceland and to make beautiful little or longer exploring tours by car or just by walking around the Snæfellsjökull. Unexpected at our first and second night in Hellnar there were aurora and good conditions to make some nice Fotos.

Best regards, Nik & Andrea

Extraordinary house in spectacular nature

  • 5 of 5

A very well cared for and maintained house , perfectly equipped with everything you need to feel at home . We spent a wonderful week at this warm and cosy house ! All pictures in the information represent perfectly what to expect . You will still be overwhelmed by the atmosphere of that special place in iceland ! There is lots to see and do in the vicinity : hiking , horseback-riding and observing Aurora Borealis !! And should there be some stormy weather - you are staying in such a cosy , comfortable and warm house - you won't be worried at all. The owner was very helpful in giving tips on where to shop groceries , to dine etc. We stayed a week and loved every day we had ! It was the last property we stayed at after 17 days of circling Iceland - and by far the loveliest house . We would love to return one day:))

Perfect mix of nature and style

  • 5 of 5

Situated amidst the beautiful surrounding of Hellnar the cottage got everything for a perfect stay: well kept and well equipped, cozy, brilliant views to the glacier (even from out of bed!) and to the sea and a nice selection of puzzle and DVDs.

Clear and useful instructions for the technical aspects and information about attractions in the area are available. However, if questions arise the owner responds immediately to any request.

Horse riding, hiking and far more excursions are imminently available within 15min drives, two restaurants in Hellnar itself offer their service - Overall an excellent plave to spend relaxing holidays for the whole family mixed with exciting excursions.

Wonderful place

  • 5 of 5

Impeccable cottage in amazing surroundings, just next to the glacier, 200 m away from the little church of Hellnar and the beautiful coast. We stayed there a full week, 2 adults and 2 adolescent sons, there was ample room for everybody, all is nice and cozy. If I could just give one recommendation, that is to have a bit more of dishes and cutlery at the cottage, when a larger party comes to stay you end up having to use the dishwasher non stop. Aside this, the amenities are just great, everything is new and works super well. I highly recommend the place!
