About the property

Kjarvalströð 14

Kjarvalströð is a new luxury 'old style' privately owned cottages located in the spectacular and unique surroundings of Snaefellsnes on the west coast. Approx. two hour drive from Reykjavik. The National Park is only 5 min away. Enjoy the magnificent views of the glacier Snaefellsjökull, the surrounding mountains, and over the bay Faxaflói. The cottage is one of few cottages designed as Icelandic houses from 1920's. There are plenty of things to do and see in the area such as: beautiful hiking, whale watching, sailing around the many islands, historical places, bird watching, skiing and sightseeing on the glacier.

If you are looking for a quiet area to relax, or want to explore the unspoiled nature and many wonderful activities in the area, these Cottages are the perfect place!

Please visit our homepage http://icelandcottages.is/ for more pictures and info.

Please also take a look at the new cottages, Kjarvalströð 8 and Kjarvalströð 12.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a very nice stay in this cottage that is located in a very quiet, inspiring and staggering area. We came late at night to this perfectly clean and beautiful house and where happy to find that the beds where nicely made ready with clean fresh sheets so we could crawl strait in. The house is equipped with everything you need, dishwasher, washing machine, drier, very comfortable beds and nicely furnished. There is a big patio around the house so we could always find shelter from the wind. The area Snafellsnes is amazing. We never got tired to just watch the mountains, the lava formations and colors, the spectacular cliffs along the shore and the Glazier. The communication´s with the owner was very friendly and helpful during our planning. We give this house and this area our best recommendations and will surely be back for more. Thank you!!!

Located right by the ocean, romantic and quiet. Great access to Snaefellnes coast and surrounding towns. Cottage is like new, with everything needed right there. Owner Jakob amazing to deal with - responsive and very helpful. Whether it's just a few nights or a longer stay we really recommend this cottage! Simply amazing experience.

immaculate property in beautiful location surrounded by nature

  • 5 of 5

We (a family with children aged 10 and 12) had an absolutely fantastic stay at this property. The accommodation was warm, light and lovely with really comfortable beds and bedding. Jakob and Elsa were really welcoming and super helpful in answering any questions about the booking and even sent us a text to tell us the Northern Lights 'were on'. The location of the house, with views to the glacier behind and the coast and big skies in front was just wonderful. We walked the coast to Arnarstapi, had the black pebble beaches to ourselves at Djupalonssandur and Dritvik, swam and soaked in the hot tubs at the pool in Olafsvik, watched massive waves crash against the cliffs at Malariff and spent a couple of nights watching the Northern Lights under clear, starry skies from the deck of the property. This house and its setting are really special - we really hope to return!

We stayed here End of February and we was enthused.

From the first contact up to the personal meeting Jakob was very nice and provided us with important and useful information.

The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped. Nothing is missing here.

Thanks again to Jakob and Elsa, who enable us with her cottage and her kindness a great holiday.

We will be back definitely.

Kind regards

Stephan, Simona, Olli und Alex

Most Amazing Place!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here in February with so much snow. OH MY GOSH, the whole area, scenery, landscapes, and the small handful of cottages nestled by the sea was so majestic. We loved the cottage and the area so much and can't wait to go back. Getting there was a bit of a challenge considering it was dark and snowing a lot, but when we woke up the next morning we all knew it was WELL WORTH the drive. My family and I had the most wonderful stay. The cottage was so so so lovely. We had everything we needed. Jakob the owner even checked in with us the night we arrived and the next day even to make sure we made it safely and everything was ok. We can't thank you enough for making your lovely home available to us and hope to be able to stay again in the very near future!

One of my favorite rentals ever! Magical!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed in one of the luxury cottages during our stay in Iceland. We were there for 4 nights and the location was amazing. The view of the water and coast is spectacular and very little light pollution so we had fantastic views of the Northern Lights. The cottage itself was very clean, a ton of amenities and all in all was a very quaint, charming experience. The house was delightfully decorated with a lot of mood lighting for those cozy, cold Iceland evenings. The kitchen was quite stocked with utensils, platters, spices and oils for cooking. Very, very accommodating and private! The drive to the Snaefellsjokull National Park is short and easy even during the winter. We also found the location nice as we felt that we really got away, but weren't far from towns, such as, Rif and Olafsvik if we needed something.

The owners, Elsa and Jakob, were very organized as well. They sent a lot of information to make our stay easier beforehand. I would definitely take their advice regarding stopping for groceries in Borganes prior to arriving at their cottage. This was much more cost effective than any of the nearby groceries. Their fridge and freezer are quite spacious for Europe so you can stock up.

I hope we make it back some day!
