Overview

About the property

7 bedrooms, 4 living rooms, well maintained and equipped, with beautiful views

Seventeenth century stone manor house set in 1.25 ha of landscaped grounds with swimming pool and terraces in centre of medieval Seillans, one of France's most beautiful villages. Enjoying spectacular views over the old town and the Esterel mountains, this historic property provides a unique mix of location, space, flexibility, privacy and charm. All within easy walking distance of the centre of the old town. One minutes walk for morning croissants, or the local restaurants!

Recently refurbished the house offers seven bedrooms, kitchen, dining, living, reception and conservatory living rooms. All with beautiful views over Seillans, the valley and mountains and/or our private garden. Capacity for 14, but ideal for multiple family or friend groups of 12 (or less) with 8 adults. Modern bath/shower rooms on each of the 3 floors of bedrooms. Wifi and free (VOIP) telephone calls to over 50 countries. Beamed living room offers HDTV, DVD, Apple TV and digital music system. Table tennis and table football provided in ground floor reception area. Attached single garage, guarantees local parking.

The House Grounds: The house faces south and enjoys spectacular views over the village, surrounding countryside and distant Esterel mountains. The half acre terraced garden is pleasantly planted with flowering shrubs, fruit trees and lawns. The garden is complemented by several paved terraces, which are each furnished with a mix of hardwood sun chairs and loungers. The shady external dining terrace is furnished with a 3m hardwood table and teak chairs and equipped with a large Argentinian charcoal BBQ. An 9.5m x 4.5m swimming pool, with alarm, is also set in a sunny terrace.

The property lies in the heart of Seillans old town, over looking both the Place-de-la-Republic and Place-du-Thouron. The Place-du-Thouron is home to ‘La Gloire de Mon Pere’ restaurant, a boulangerie and a small epicerie. The Place-de-la-Republic is the principal village square and provides space for boules and car parking. As the principal village meeting place, the Place-de-la-Republic hosts various village events throughout the year, such as; a small weekly farmers market, occasional antique fairs and the annual ‘Bastille Day’ celebration. As you would expect of such a central location in the old town, some noise from village life and celebration is inevitable at times.

The house interior is full of character, attractively and comfortably decorated in a mixture of local antiques and modern furnishings. The floors are set in marble or old Provencal tiles. The accommodation is on five levels, with half-landings between them.

First Floor Living Areas: The kitchen, dining room and conservatory are located on the first floor. The kitchen is approached from steps externally and has a small shaded terrace. The kitchen is fully stocked with all gas hob, electric oven, microwave, fridge/freezer and crockery and cutlery sufficient for the number of guests. The dining room leads directly off the kitchen, and has a large oak dining table and chairs and oak side board. The dining room also boasts a wood burning stove for use in the winter. The walls are hung with a collection of Provencal prints. From the dining room a comfortable and light [triple aspect] conservatory/ seating room is reached, which has stunning views over the old town.

Third Floor Living Room: A large beamed living room is located on the third floor level. The room is double aspect with twin windows overlooking the garden and pool, with superb uninterrupted views to the mountains behind the village. Separate double french doors provide access to an elevated terrace with views of, and gated access [via steps] to, the garden and pool. The terrace contains teak table and chairs. A retractable awning can also be deployed to provide shade to this external area.

The living room is furnished with a modern large sofa suite, capable of seating 10 persons. The living room also contains a Blu-ray DVD, Apple TV and digital music system. An extensive supply of DVDs are contained in 2 large teak book cases, which also house a wide range of books and games.

Bedrooms: At the Ground level are two cool 'summer' bedrooms. The main double bedroom suite is large, with 'lounge' seating area, fireplace and french windows to the front elevation of the house. A further window on the side elevation boasts beautiful views over the old town to the chateau. Leading off the main bedroom is a large family bathroom and further bedroom (2 single beds & cot) suitable for children. Please note; that the second bedroom is only accessible via the main ground floor suite.

On the second floor there are one double , one twin and one further (small) double bedrooms. These bedrooms are served by a modern bathroom with bath and shower.

On the fourth floor is one large double bedroom suite, with dressing and seating area. And a further bedroom comprising 2 singles beds . This floor is also served by a modern bathroom. All bedrooms contain fitted wardrobes, cupboards, bed side lights and each has superb views over the old town and/or panoramic countryside views.

A large basement Utility room provides modern washing machine, tumble dryer and ironing facilities. Access is also provided to the attached single garage. A further basement pool room houses lounger cushions, parasols and a small selection of pool toys.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Andy, just got back from France and wanted to drop you a line to thank you for all your help with staying at your property in Seillans. All of us had an amazing time and loved the surrounding area, the weather, the locals, the restaurants and most of all your amazing house! It is a rare thing to have your highest expectations bettered by reality but all of our group commented on the fact that the house and pool were even better than the website shows and the location was just perfect.

Five Stars in Lovely Seillans

  • 5 of 5

Our three-generation American family (ages 12 to 78) spent the first week of July at this wonderful house. It is the model of what a vacation rental should be: extremely well-equipped and comfortable and well-located in the village but private. Sitting in the large garden near the pool under the olive and fig trees, smelling the lavender and looking up at Seillans’s Romanesque church, is idyllic. Most nights we ate at the long table under the grape arbor, which is enhanced by an excellent large grill. (The one night we ate out was at the splendid La Gloire de Mon Pere, about a minute away.) The kitchen is well-designed, so it was easy for us to work together to prepare meals. The house is nicely decorated with Provencal fabrics and has both a big living room and smaller sitting room, as well as various terraces, so it is easy to be sociable or private. The beds are comfortable. There is an excellent collection of books, videos and games, and the owners have thoughtfully provided a selection of local maps for use while at the house. The caretaker speaks good English and is very nice. Unlike many rentals, staples were left from previous visitors, so we didn’t need to buy things like vinegar and olive oil for our all-too-short stay. There’s a garage, but we never had to use it for any of our three cars because there was always parking at the edge of the boules court across the street. The bakeries and Tabac (with the International New York Times daily) are a five minute walk down into the lovely old town, as is the Bar Charlot, where our grandsons had a great time watching the World Cup with the townspeople. I cannot think of anything that would have further improved the experience.

Great stay in this lovely house

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay in this lovely, characterful house. The location in this truly unique village was excellent - everything is just a short walk away and there's plenty of very convenient parking opposite.

It's an ideal house for large family gatherings. The outside eating areas are lovely and there's also a large dining table inside which we had to resort to on one occasion! It was great to have 3 good restaurants and 2 boulangeries so close, and we made good use of the fabulous Argentinian barbecue! The culinary highlight was undoubtedly the meal cooked for us "at home" by local chef Benjamin. He made our 40th wedding anniversary very memorable.

The house is very well equipped and maintained and we found Sarah-Jane the caretaker very helpful.

There's lots to explore in the area - the other lovely mountain villages and towns and the awesome Gorge de Verdon. There are plenty of beaches within about an hour's drive, but it was always good to come back to the peace of Seillans.

Fantastic Family Holiday in Seillans

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 6 including 2 teenagers and grandparents had a great stay in this beautifully presented and equipped large villa. Lots of sun, BBQs and time by the pool. Plus plenty of visits to the great Gloire de Mon Pere,a few steps away from the front gate.

Wonderful holiday, hope to return soon!

Our Fourth Fabulous Year

  • 5 of 5

Our family spent our fourth holiday in wonderful Maison Hirondelle in Seillans. As a party of teenagers, parents and guests the house and village are the perfect base for all ages. There are endless walks direct from your front door, whether it's to the Boulangerie for croissants and baguettes, or to trek in the forests, or to walk through the incredibly beautiful village streets. We went to the lake, and twice to eat at our old favourite La Gloire de Mon Pere, across the road, and for the first time to Les Deux Rocs also fabulous. The Wheaton's as ever provided friendly and responsive help throughout booking and the stay.

Wonderful villa with beautiful surroundings

  • 5 of 5

I enjoyed a relaxing stay at this villa at the beginning of July and it was the perfect way to start off my summer.

The villa was well equipped and the rooms were kept cool which was a welcome relief to the temperature outside. The pool provided a perfect setting to lounge around in after enjoying walks around the picturesque village. A large dining table located outside, in the shade of grape vines, was a lovely place to sit down and eat our meals and we also enjoyed a lovely meal at the restaurant that was a minute's walk away; 'La Glorie de Mon Pere'.

I would happily stay at the villa again and I would highly recommend.

Delightful house in a quiet environment for socializing and spending wonderful time together

  • 5 of 5

We have just spent a wonderful week together in the house with a big company of three families including many children.

The house offered something for everyone. Beautiful mornings on the terrace, cozy moments under the olive trees, the sun or in the pool. Lovely evenings in the back at the barbecue or at the french restaurant just in the corner. Seillans is close to the major cities at the french Riviera, and nearby several vineyards that we visited during our stay. We had a marvelous week and loved every minute in the house.

Seillans is recognised as one of the most beautiful villages of France. Set in spectacular, unspoilt scenery, the 'perched' village is a harmonious collection of pink, pastel houses, steeply terraced slopes with a labyrinth of cobbled alleyways, squares, rustic portals and arches, still surrounded in part by it's fortified ramparts. Delightful fountains and 'lavoirs' are a feature of the village and are found in almost every street. All the facilities of the village are within a couple of minutes walk of the house, including patisseries, restaurants and bars. Whilst a haven of tranquillity and beauty, the village is less than 45 minutes from Nice and 25 minutes from Cannes. The beautiful beaches of Frejus and St Raphael are less than 45 minutes distant. Also easily accessible is the Gorge du Verdon (45 mins) and Lac St Cassien (10 mins). Seillans is also perfectly placed to widely explore the beauty of the Cote d' Azur and Provence, given its proximity to the A8 motorway.

Other Activities: The Owner also offers a bespoke, guided, holiday tour service for groups of family/friends using the house as the base.

Golf: Europe’s most complete golf facility, Terre Blanche Golf Club has earned a position among the world’s top-level golf destinations and is less than 15 mins from our house. With a mild year-round climate, Terre Blanche provides an unrivalled environment for improving your game.

Offering the ultimate in Provence golf, the club features two 18-hole, par-72 championship courses – Le Riou and Le Château – designed by golf legend Dave Thomas to make the most of the lush hills and valleys.

Elevating Terre Blanche to international stature is the one-of-a-kind Albatros Golf Performance Center, a massive practice and training facility focused on achieving transformative results. On-site expertise encompasses BioMecaSwing Assessment and a David Leadbetter Golf Academy. This comprehensive training approach benefits players of all levels – from beginner to expert.
