A lovely and well located and well equipped villa.

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic two weeks here, the villa is extremely comfortable with lots of space for relaxing outside with various different patio areas and the pool area was set out with good furniture and comfortable sun beds for chilling out. It has a very effective BBQ and plenty of tables and chairs for al-fresco dining. The inside boasts a big kitchen which is well equipped and a large dining room and sitting area. The beds were comfortable too and it's only a shame the sun shone and made us leave the comfort of them. Located south of Bergerac amongst the vineyards, we had a good time exploring the area and cycling through the vineyards. Definitely intend to visit this villa again. The owners were very friendly and had lots of good local information to share.

Immaculate home-perfect for a family holiday

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing holiday! Le Maine was a well equipped house with lots of thoughtful touches that helped us relax into our holiday. Linda and Stuart went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. The pool was clean and warm, the stunning gardens and field behind the house (with badminton net, swings and little go-cart) provided plenty of room for the kids to run free. The house was the best we've ever stayed in, Thank you

A lovely home from home

  • 4 of 5

After a disastrous journey involving delayed trains and ending up temporarily stranded in Bordeaux, Maureen and Stuart were total legends. Not only did they offer to drive almost 2 hours to pick us up (thankfully not needed) they left us an amazing food and wine basket for our arrival. I can't tell you how welcome that was!

The villa was wonderful, especially the all mod cons kitchen, I was spoiled by all the utensils. Very generous to leave such a great selection of extras too such as maps, books, garden seating, games, logs for the fire etc. It was clean, bright and comfortable, we felt instantly at home.

English TV was appreciated, as was the multiple seating areas around the villa to catch the sun. Unfortunately the weather was thundery and rainy most of the week so we couldn't use the pool or barbecue but the ping pong table was appreciated. We also had bikes delivered from the company recommended by Maureen and Stuart, which was a great way to see some wineries and local villages like Eymet (pretty hilly though). A drive over to Beynac and Montpazier was wonderfully scenic and with great restaurants. The Bergerac farmers market was a typically French experience. I made a simple Spring vegetable broth with the baby yellow carrots and turnips we bought, totally sublime. Oh I also recommend the fish market there for wonderfully sweet giant prawns.

The only niggle was that there was supposedly a local bar within 1 km but there was nothing at all. The next village was deserted and just a closed down bakery, every sign of life involved driving. Not a deal breaker but we did specifically ask about local village life before booking.

Eating our breakfast and later drinking the excellent wine in the beautiful garden in the evening (between rain showers) was very pleasurable.

Maureen and Stuart have thought of everything and really cared about making the best of our stay.

Owner's Response: Dear Lauren. Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed review of your stay at Le Maine and we are so glad that you enjoyed it, we have passed your comments onto the owners, Stuart & Linda, as feedback is really important to them. I have taken the time to speak to them today to check about the local amenities and can confirm that there is a bar located within the nearby complex where the tennis courts are. They also advised that the local bakery was temporarily closed recently as it has changed hands and re-opened at the beginning of July. Thanks once again and we hope that we can help with your holiday plans in the future. Kind regards, David & Tracy.

Situated near the towns of Eymet and Miramont de Guyenne in the region of Aquitaine within the Bordeaux wine region and on the border of the Dordogne, Gironde and Lot et Garonne, France.

The nearest shops are located at Miramont de Guyenne where there are also tennis courts available to hire.

Bordeaux is approximately 1 hour 30 minutes drive drive to the west and Bergerac is 30 minutes to the north, St Emilion 45 minutes north west.

This is the ideal base from which to explore South West France. Located in the region of Aquitaine on the 3 borders of Gironde / Dordogne / Lot et Garonne and is considered to be one of the most picturesque areas of France.

The gently rolling countryside is a pleasure to explore, with excellent roads winding their way through fields and vineyards. Perfect cycling country!

The local towns have a good selection of shops including cafes, bars, restaurants and grocery stores.

The market squares are also hosts the many festivals and events throughout the year.

Wine and Gastronomy:

The Bordeaux wine region has 21 appellations. Visit some of the many local Caves and Chateau who offer free tastings and tours while you choose a bottle or two.

Not to be missed is the world famous St Emilion, just a short drive away. A designated world heritage site and is truly stunning. Explore characteristic narrow lanes lined with wine merchants, cafes, restaurants and interesting independent shops. A guided tour of the monolithic church is highly recommended.

Follow Rick Steins French Odyssey (Bordeaux to Bazas) trail across this region and encounter some of the best culinary experiences France has to offer.

Bordeaux:

This designated world heritage site is a must for all visitors. This cosmopolitan city offers a diverse range of attractions. The golden triangle has a fabulous range of shops for those shopaholics.

A rich variety of architecture forms the backdrop for the street cafe's, restaurants, bars and not forgetting the superb Grand Theatre.

Dordogne:

The Dordogne is just one of the many places to visit for day trips. Anything from Canoeing or boat trips on the Dordogne river to exploring ancient villages.

Markets:

Most villages and towns hold weekly markets full of fresh and interesting local produce. An ideal place to pick up your holiday mementoes and gifts. Issigeac on a Sunday morning is a popular market to visit set in this lovely medieval town.

Activities:

Cycling

The countryside around Le Verger is perfect for cycling, whether it's just a gentle ride around to explore, or if you are a keen cyclist, a long training ride on fantastic stretches of road to get the blood pumping whilst taking in the fantastic views.

Canoeing and kayaking:

Canoe hire is available on the local rivers. The river Dropt winds through the valley with a slow flow on it, whilst the large river Garonne is just 20 minutes away.

The Dordogne river is an hour away which has a faster pace but has plenty of canoe hire opportunities. You can literally just go with the flow and be picked up further down stream, of course the easiest way is a boat trip and let some one else do the work!

Beaches:

The Atlantic coast, with over 150 miles of golden sandy beaches is less than 2 hours drive away. Great fun for all the family, simply relax and soak up the sun or try your hand at surfing. Alternatively there are also fresh water lakes with a beach and facilities, the nearest is at Blasimon (about 30 minutes drive) and is very popular with families.

Golf:

There are many pay and play golf courses within the area, the best being the beautiful Chateau Des Vigiers Golf and Country Club. The chateau dates back to 1597 and is set in 450 acres of stunning countryside. Facilities also include a fine restaurant and relaxing beauty spa.
